I think this series hinges on whether or not the Pistons can continue to shut down the Lakers' roleplayers. If they can, then O'Neal will have to pull a Chamberlain for the rest of this series in order for the Lakers to win. I mean, if Detroit can hold Bryant and the rest of the Lakers to under 45 points combined, then O'Neal will probably have to go for 50+ a night just for the Lakers to win.

The Pistons reminded Derek Fisher of how hard it is to get good looks when you're not the beneficiary of double teams to Shaquille O'Neal... I love Detroit's approach: other teams try to smother O'Neal, rationalizing that they'll make the role players beat them, and O'Neal just gets his points, anyway. Detroit seems to think, "Eh, Shaq's going to get his, anyway, but we'll be damned if Kareem Rush and Derek Fisher beat us!"

That's a little harsh; I'll never call a 6-7 center "overrated," let alone "vastly overrated." It's not like this guy is a seven footer. He's not even his progam height of 6-9; he's the same size as Corliss Williamson.

I won't argue with you about that, although, more often than not these days, he's likelier to force things with no success than he is to be timid. There's no question that Webber has shied away from stepping up in the past but, for the most part, that's in the past. Like I said, ever since the 2002 WCF, he hasn't really been afraid of stepping up very often, even if he sometimes fails to deliver.

I don't get this comment; the average age of the Kings is 28.8, which is only fourth-oldest out of the six teams in any serious discussion for championship contention (SAC, SAS, LAL, MIN + IND, DET), and the youngest of the likely Western Conference contenders in the immediate future; why do the Kings only get a three-year window? Are Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell somehow getting younger? Is Shaquille O'Neal? Why aren't their "windows" closing? Webber is a good fourth-quarter player... or, at least as good as the Kings have, when he's healthy (or even a reasonable fascimile of healthy).

He got over it last year; he just got injured in the playoffs before any non-Kings fan had a chance to take notice. Anybody who followed the Kings throughout the 2002-03 season knows that Webber, not Bibby, and not Stojakovic, was the most clutch player on the team, was huge in the fourth quarter all season long, and hit no fewer than five game-winning shots that season... It just so happens that the only one to be shown on national television was that one where he hit the three against Boston late in the season. Actually, you could make the argument that he got over it in Game 7 of the 2002 WCF, when he took on the responsibility of trying to guard Shaq after Divac fouled out... he failed, but not for lack of effort.
