Well, at least that should make Sacred happy...
-
Just like the old Wrestling Panda articles... but somehow not as lighthearted.
-
I should have a move like the Scum Gale, where only me and, like, two other people know what it's actually supposed to look like.
-
If we're still around next year, that should totally be Spike's new gimmick: "My name is Hollywood Spike Jenkins, and I approved this promo."
-
Since I haven't finished listening to the show (and I'm probably going to stop here in a few minutes), I have a quick question: did you actually have a list of things that you'd wanted to talk about, or did you just have in mind to talk about the Address, and freestyle the rest of the show?

That's how I do... I dig the old school... Plus, I've never been a big fan of hitting, like, a corkscrew moonsault, and having the other guy kick out; if I put something like that on you, damnit, you should stay down! I don't like heat segments; they detract from my spots. That's why Johnny and I have always done well as a team, I think: he's the big picture, ideas guy, who comes up with all the dramatic stuff and the "Hollywood" endings, and I do the technical, heavy-hitting stuff. Hell, it was suggested to me that the main reason why I lost the tag title match I had to write by myself against Galacticos when Johnny was AWOL was because my match wasn't dramatic enough, and didn't have an epic enough finish... I, personally, don't particuarly like to do "epic" finishes, and I'm certainly not all that good at it. I usually let Johnny handle that shit, and then I just smooth out the rough edges on his ideas... More like I was watching Jericho versus Mysterio from about ten years ago... Sorry, I was under the gun; you may have noticed that my match was more than a thousand words under the limit. The Bird Dropping was WC's finisher from when he was masquerading as Birdman, and I brought it over because I like it, and saw no reason to quit using it. Basically, it's a vertical splash from the top rope; the last person that I actually saw using it was face Doink, when he called it the Whoopie Cushion. That same wrestler (Matt Borne) also used the same move in WCW when he was wrestling as Big Josh, only he called it the Northern Exposure then. If you still can't visualize the move, try to picture Earthquake's finisher done from the top rope.

No, it isn't. Unless the correlation is that they're both wrong. Downloading copyrighted material for your own enjoyment has nothing to do with the whole Mencia/Rogan thing. Yes it is. Bobby Peru said, "But he is stealing people's livelihoods! There such a thing called "intellectual property"." That doesn't speak to the specific point of whether or not he's claiming the material to be his own, it's speaking to the very generic point of stealing someone's intellectual property. The point is that if you've ever stolen anything, you don't have moral high ground to condemn anybody else for stealing. What you do with your stolen product, versus what someone else does with their stolen product is a matter of degree, and a bullshit rationalization in my opinion. It's like someone who got pinched for petty larceny talking shit about someone who got pinched for fencing; they're both just as wrong. Stealing is stealing, and trying to rationalize stealing someone's intellectual property by saying that it's okay, as long as you don't claim that it's your intellectual property, doesn't wash with me.

Do I have to sign up for this thing in order to be able to listen to it, or has it just not been posted yet?

That's gold, Jerry! The Two Skinny White Guys will rue the day; it's on, bitches! And Pennyfeather J. Poppycock is the greatest referee of all time.

Bruner's stats are now available in the HoM stats post. -
Here's the thing, when Conan comes out and does his monologue, it's written by people who are paid to do exactly that. If Mencia paid people to write his stuff, it wouldn't be a big deal. But he is stealing people's livelihoods! There such a thing called "intellectual property". Whether you personally find Mencia funny or not is irrelevant. I don't know you from Adam, so I will ask this as a question rather than declare it as a statement: Have you ever downloaded, or otherwise obtained, any copyrighted information without paying for it? Because, if the answer is yes, then you have zero moral high ground to lecture about "intellectual property," or "stealing people's livelihoods."

It's not a question of whether I can tell the difference, it's a question of do I care either way? Answer: I don't. Personally, I don't care if he opens his act with "I stole all these jokes," or whether he opens his act with "I wrote all these jokes myself!" and then proceeds to rip off George Lopez's entire act. If he tells the jokes BETTER than Lopez, and he makes me laugh and Lopez doesn't, then that's all that matters to me.
-
1) I listen to a lot of R&B and some pop music; few R&B singers actually write their own songs. And even fewer pop singers. So no, that's not an issue for me. 2) It occurs to me that telling someone else's joke is not the same as getting on stage and saying "Hey, I made all these jokes up! I'm original!" I've listened to a few of Mencia's standup performances, and I can't recall him claiming to have thought up all his jokes... 3) Funny is more about timing and delivery than the actual joke, in my opinion. If Comic A tells a joke, and I don't react, and then, a year later, Comic B tells the same joke, but tells it in a way that makes me laugh, then fuck Comic A, as far as I'm concerned. EDIT - What naiwf said.
-
Pretty much. It really isn't that hard to steal material and make it into your own. Why don't you support comedians with actual talent? Why do you care? I think Mencia's funny, at least during his standup routine. If you don't like it, you don't have to, but you're not going to change my mind. It's not like I'm going to say, "Wow, that's a good point, fucker; I never thought of it that way... I hate Carlos Mencia now!" You've told me that he steals jokes, and I still think he's funny, so if you've got a problem with that, tough shit.
-
Don't support a joke thief? Trick, get off me.
-
:: raises hand :: I think that Mencia's funny (his standup, anyway; his show, I could take or leave), and I don't care even one little bit that he stole from George Lopez... if Mencia did steal from him, apparently he figured out something that Lopez didn't that made it funny, since I don't find Lopez funny.

YIKES! Methinks that BL forgets that both were still hot back in '92. That match between Hitman and Dynamite from Prime Time was tight; I also liked that tag match with a face Islanders (?!) team. And it just illustrates how incredibly deep the tag team ranks were back then... Velvet McEntyre and the Bomb Angels were great, too; I've got that show on tape, and that's probably my favprite match on the show, because of the work those ladies did. It also illustrated what was, to me, an unfortunate shift in the WWE's attitude towards women's wrestling: I mean, the only one in that match that probably could qualify as a Diva by today's standards is Sherri, but even the big slugs could at least work a match... Now they have eye candy that can't even take a clothesline correctly.
-
Fuck it, I'll buck the trend: I think Mencia's funny, and don't like Rogan at all.

When in doubt, send it to Taamo... -
So, according to the last twenty minutes of ESPN Radio that I've been listening to, I guess Tim Hardaway hates gay people.

It amuses me that, on one of the two message boards I spend most of my time at, I'm in the midde third in terms of age, and on the other one, I'm one of the top ten (top five?) oldest guys on the whole damned board. In fact, after Rendclaw, Kaertos and Dr. Tom, I can't think of anyone here older than me off the top of my head...
-
What Johnny is driving at is perhaps we've simply exhausted our resources at this board... maybe all we need is a change of venue; doubtful, I'll admit, but has it even been considered? The "problem," as I see it, isn't really a problem, but what makes this e-fed better than all the rest is also what makes it unattractive to a lot of people. It occurs to me that the reason most people participate in e-feds is to indulge their booking fantasies, as in, "if I ran xyz fed, I'd do this," etc. Well, in this fed, you only get to do that if you can write better stuff than other people. RPs won't help, intricate storylines won't help; if your match isn't better than the other guy, your angle's not going to get the payoff you think it deserves (see Spike/Mags), unless the guy you're booked against is of like mind (see Drake/Toxxic). We've had many people leave because they don't like the idea of actually having to write matches (coughtokyoxcough), but I'm sure we've also had people leave just because they expected the fed to be more cooperative than it actually is. I don't imagine that a lot of people who decide to join an e-fed have the determination to try and succeed in such a cutthroat (no pun intended) environment. Personally, I like it just fine the way it is, but I can certainly see why someone who just wanted their plucky underdog character to overcome all odds and become the World Champion might find this place trying. If we wanted to give this fed an honest chance at survival, we'd have to figure out a way to sell people who really just want instant gratification on the concept of "root, hog or die." So... anybody here a marketing major?

Are you suggesting that, if someone doesn't like the Dixie Chicks, that they're retarded?
