  1. Hm. Come to think of it, that 14% beer was very wine-like. Not very syrupy, but extremely strong. So much so I could only handle drinking it in sips—chugging it would likely make me wretch.
  2. I don't care about Guns 'n' Roses, but he should just go ahead and release a shitty album now, paving the way for a future "good" album. There's no way Chinese Democracy will be worth a damn, so Rose should cut his losses.
  3. Sam Adams Triple Bock—which I've neither had nor seen—has a 17% alcohol content, which is insane for a beer. The strongest beer I've had was something like 14%; I can't remember what it was called, but I do recall it being French and having it at this tiny bar in St. Augustine. As for Amber Bock, I strongly endorse getting it from the tap rather than the bottle. Last night was the first time I had it on draft in a couple of years; it was a lot better than I remember it being.
  4. My girlfriend hates beer, mostly, but she tried Amber Bock last night and liked it. Have you had it, Spoon?
  5. Like the threads in the music and movie folders, but should cover just about anything you buy. Budweiser Select is the worst beer I've had in ages. Shit's even nastier than Bud Light.
  6. New Smyrna Beach is pretty, but I couldn't imagine living there. Too dull.
  7. Now that I think about it, it might be the fourth time, if you count Sunn O))). I don't think Sunn O))) are really metal, though. What does Agent of Oblivion think.
  8. haha, DoCock's mommy got onto him.
  9. Some of what I've read in this thread doesn't surprise me.
  10. The Doves album Some Cities, which I am having a very hard time finishing.
  11. Speaking of Dead Meadow and LCD Soundsytem, as a part of my series Listening to Music Released This Year, I am now checking out the Doves' Some Cities. Doves is a band long-touted by people I know to have respectable taste, so, listening to this album, I am wondering why. They sound like a more rockin' Coldplay. Which isn't a good thing, obv.
  12. Also, for the second time ever, I'll be playing a metal band on my show this Sunday. It may be the third time, if you count GWAR.
  13. Because of Agent, I'm giving Neurosis another shot, by way of Through Silver in Blood. Downloading now. Also, I like this new Dead Meadow album, Feathers, though it appears I forgot to grab the last track when transferring the station copy to my iPod. A fifteen minute track, too. Oh well, I'll likely end up buying it, anyway.
  14. The Decemberists - The Tain LCD Soundsystem - s/t Dead Meadow - Feathers
  15. I remember starting a Dolls thread several months back, in which benoitrulz4life directed me to an old thread in which like a third of the people posting trashed them.
  16. Pensacola wishes it were in Alabama. Fuck that place.
  17. You had a point, though. Feeling sorry for yourself only makes things worse.
  18. The album's a little too erratic; James Murphy clearly had a lot of fun making this record, but he'd benefit from acquiring his own identity, rather than the guy who listened to a lot of left-of-center music from the 70s. This makes for a pretty good guessing game the first listen—hey, he's making like Brian Eno here, but there, he's like the Fall!—but not all of the songs are strong enough to stand up to repeated listens, I think. We'll see. (Oh, the album is packaged with a bonus disc, containing LCD's early singles, which, as it happens, are better than the album proper.) fake edit: Here are the strongest tracks (from the main album) Daft Punk is Playing at My House Tribulations Movement (from the bonus disc) The whole disc is solid (minus "Tired"), but "Losing My Edge" and "Beat Connection" are the standouts.
  19. Wonderful. My roommate and her boyfriend are in her room, blasting Le Tigre. (To drown out any sex noises, I guess.) So I'm listening to LCD Soundsystem to counteract it. It's a fun little record, but I can't imagine it being something I'd listen to very often.
  20. I know what that's like. It wasn't until within the last year that I've been able to make serious strides to change myself.
  21. That Le Tigre song—which I never cared much for—gets played all the time at this scenester bar I occasionally patronize. Well, my gf recently bought the album from which it appears. The song itself appears in two versions on the record. The album itself is very short, so I ended up hearing two slightly different, but mostly similar forms several times during the course of a couple of hours, as she would not change the goddamn CD.
  22. I still feel awful for the horrible way I treated certain girls in my younger days. Even if I had the chance to now, I know I'd never be able to apologize for my past boorish behavior.
  23. I was once indifferent to Le Tigre, but after hearing that goddamn song "Deceptacon" five times today, I hate them. I fucking hate them.
