I haven't paid too close attention to the pre-release hype, but was anyone really pushing the music itself as something that would "change the face of the record industry?" The way the album is being released, maybe, but not the album itself. Also, a number of your comments seem to be more about what other people have been saying about the album, not the album itself. I haven't listened to this—and, honestly, don't hold very high hopes for it—but, when I do, I will be listening to the songs with little preconception. You're too wrapped up in almost everything else.

Why would I expect a Dinosaur Jr album to be "jam-bandy?"

Why are you using ` instead of ' ?

Taken shortly after Anna Nicole Smith died. No way. I need a source on this. -

bigolsmitty, I hope you get cancer of the rectum. -
My "fuck off" was re: his solo career. I've no beef with Ringo during his time with the Beatles; in fact, I think, at this board if not elsewhere, I'm in the minority in thinking his vocal contributations to the White Album are among that release's highlights.

That and "It Don't Come Easy" are unassailable. Still, Ringo can fuck off.

I've become such a pansy since getting a dog. There was a story on the local news tonight about a puppy that was trapped in a storm drain outside an area high school; no footage of the rescue attempt was captured—which is fortunate, as the numerous interviews with witnesses and the revelation that the puppy did not survive was enough to turn me into a choked-up, faggoty mess. Slow news day, I guess. -

Yeah, I said "folder" up there, but the board as a whole is equally applicable. -
Why did you pick up those two before Highway 61 Revisited?

Count me in as another voter of Sound of Silver. I've listened to the Stars of the Lid double album almost as often, but it was more as background reading/work music.

I'm embarrassed by any post of mine more than a month old. -
milliondollarchamp just can't win.

I don't get this logic. There's bound to be a number of technical glitches once the d/l becomes available—just news of this is causing major traffic at the site, which is currently loading very sluggishly—I'd rather not deal with it. Plus, I'm not a huge fan, so it's not like I can't wait.

Hm. You can still go to a place like a New York and just walk around, soaking up the atmosphere. That's what I like to do; I've been to NYC a few times and not once did I go to the Statue of Liberty or any other touristy type thing. Central Park is really nice, though. Still, I wouldn't recommend Austin. Nothing there that you couldn't experience in another city that's bigger and has more of it—NYC, San Francisco, etc. It's not like there's much else to look at in Texas, either.

The new generation of boarders are engaging in shtick that was considered fresh and funny (the latter of which is now debatable) in 2004. The older members are recycling thread ideas that were arguably neat when first implemented years ago—the Ask ______ thread; Hoff looking for MSpaint ideas—but are long past their sell-by date. Vanhalen is bumping old threads, ostensibly to show that this board used to be "better," but is only showing this board was never good, or that he has bad taste in old threads. I suspect a little bit of both. Anyway, I'm well aware that, for any bitching I may do, I'm doing only that: bitching. Why are you here? I'm here out of habit, one which I've slowly been breaking.

If I wanted to completely shut myself off from all my internet pals, I'd do just what Kotz is doing—not to say that is the motivation for his absence—I'd give up message boards, not sign on to AIM (or get a new handle none of you people would know), ignore any e-mails or calls and so on. Still, other than his lately expressing boredom with this place (like the rest of us have), he never gave any indication he was going to completely disconnect himself from his old internet social life. So, it stands to reason he's either in jail or dead. The former, he was too embarrassed to share; the latter, he was incapable of sharing.

I've never been to LA, but isn't just a bunch of sprawl? And I've been to Austin; I suppose it's a neat place to live, but what appeal would it have for a tourist? A bunch of hip coffee houses and nightclubs? I mentioned trains up there; you can ride the rails pretty easily from Philadelphia (which you don't want to visit) to NYC and Boston (both of which are worth checking out). However, if you really want to see America, you'd be better off going to some small-to-mid-size city. You don't really want to see America.

I realize you can pay nothing to get the download officially, but eh, I'll wait until after everyone else has d/l'ed it and take it from one of them. If it's good, I'll buy just the disc version whenever they get around to putting that out.
