  1. I'm another guy who rarely skips anything. Unless a song's absolutely dreadful, I can deal with it.
  2. No, I haven't, but I notice him whenever I pass by the F's in the fiction section.
  3. This one's good, too, but the chorus of "mmmBop" puts it over the top.
  4. When I saw them a few months back, they played all the best songs from NCL, so that was nice.
  5. I just remembered that my story was definitely seventh grade, as eighth grade was the year where I took a not unrelated health class, wherein we were taught abortion was the murder of an innocent child. Which, in turn, sparked a lot of media coverage after our school was threatened with a lawsuit for doing so.
  6. True story: the ending of his "The Little Mermaid"—his being the original—made me a little misty-eyed.
  7. This: I like it well enough, but reading more than two stories at a time can be trying; Andersen, for all his lyrical gifts, was fond of repetition. Overuse of phrases like "Oh, it was wonderful!" and "Oh, it was very lovely!" and "Oh, it was simply dreadful!" I need something to break up the monotony; I'm leaning towards an essay collection, but nothing particular in mind, outside of maybe something by John McPhee.
  8. It was either 7th or 8th grade; regardless, we were taught by one of the gym coaches. He was a crusty WWII vet with a fondness for neon socks—he had three or four different pairs he'd alternate each day—who said that not using a condom was akin to going into the bush without a helmet, where some Jap would blow your goddamn head off. That was a quote, for what it's worth.
  9. Good as it is, almost every song on No Cities Left goes on about a minute too long; I like it better than Gang of Losers, though, as that runs out of steam in the last third.
  10. I was forgiving of the overly chatty sections of Death Proof because the car chase sequence that took up the last part of the film was so great. And treble seems to have a problem with the ending, but it fits in with the type of flicks Tarantino was paying tribute to.
  11. "mmmBop" - Hanson
  12. Forget whatever you may have thought back when the song was popular. Forget the accompanying cheesy video. Accept that Hanson's "mmmBop" is a fantastic pop song.
  13. I saw that yesterday and considered responding to it, but it's Mik. He thought the O.A.R. show was awesome. No response was needed.
  14. "there isn't much of any plot" is a lousy criticism of this kind of movie. If you really want to go down that route, Planet Terror's was a by-the-numbers zombie plot. In the case of both, it was all about execution.
  15. You laugh at me because I am younger, I laugh at you because you are older and still respond. You win.
  16. Oh, I dunno. At her worst, she indulges in some Oberstisms, though.
  17. I got what it was going for but I thought it was dumb. I appear to be in the minority here, as almost every review I've read calls Roth's trailer one of the film's highlights; I thought Machete and Werewolf Women of the SS were far superior, as far as the trailers go. Anyway, Grindhouse was good times.
  18. Cormac McCarthy to appear on Oprah. Wow. I'll have to watch this.
  19. I'd feel darn foolish if I found out she was lifting these from Bright Eyes lyrics.
  20. I just pissed on this thread.
  21. How come, this long into his career, there hasn't been someone who successfully convinced Tarantino he has no business acting? He has a bit part in both films; without ruining anything, his on-camera time in Death Proof was passable, but his performance in Planet Terror completely undermines what was supposed to be a pretty tense scene. Stay behind the camera, you mouth-breathing fuck.
  22. I had no idea Amnesia Glasscock is 15; look at me up there responding to him like his opinion means something.
  23. Anderson Cooper's never really been in or out of the closet; he's gay, but he doesn't feel the need to talk about it. Foster's speculation; people like Geffen and Singer have long been public—I rarely follow dumb Hollywood shit and I knew that.
  24. Thanksgiving was the only lame trailer. In fact, it was the only real lame part of the movie. Concentrated lameness.
