Let's not act like the Rolling Stones haven't been awful for the last three decades.
-
Your argument didn't hold much water to begin with, but you lost any ground you may've had by admitting that something or someone—Dane Cook, in your case—can be terrible. I have no problem saying the public-at-large has abominable taste.

I downloaded this song yesterday; I've since listened to this about five times. This song, from 1990, falls in a period of time in Pop's career where he was trying on a singing voice that he completely copped from pal David Bowie. It wasn't a bad one, though he lacked Bowie's expressiveness.

It was one of the few Stones songs I liked back when I didn't much like the Stones.

Oh, change that "some stuff from" Trout Mask Replica to "all stuff" from it, ASAP.

Check out Lick My Decals Off, Baby and Doc at the Radar Station.

Oh man, Austin Winkler.

"Trashy" is not a word I associate with the Stones post-1978.

What's going on here. -
I used to not like Let it Bleed very much—reservations with the second half—but now I love it. The run of side one is one classic after another.

A friend of mine has XM satellite radio. We were driving around in his car today, listening to the classic alternative channel; Iggy Pop's early 90s hit "Candy" came on. It's been in my head all day.
-
What? Get the fuck out of here. And guys, pay no mind to Matt Young.
-
Not really. They still hadn't gotten comfortable with the concept of the album as a whole rather than just a collection of songs. There's some classic tunes, but too much filler. I'm not even including the godawful epic "Goin' Home."
-
It's a big plus that James Murphy's dropped the pastiches from the debut and actually wrote songs here; he's found his own voice. Which, okay, his singing voice still lapses into Eno- and Mark E. Smith-isms, but the songs themselves no longer sound like he lifted them wholesale from any Eno or Fall album. And since we're talking favorite song, I'm torn between either "Someone Great" and "All My Friends."

Replacing Hartman was a challenge, sure, but it wasn't an impossible one. Lovitz's character could've worked, but it goes back to the people behind the scenes not giving him anything to do. That sort of misdirection plagued much of the season and not just for his character.

Low - Drums and Guns LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver Sound of Silver. I liked this when I downloaded however long back, but I think I'm falling in love with it now. The review on Pitchfork nails a lot about what works here (yes, sometimes good points can be found there!) and goes some way to explain how I get into this and not a lot of other dance music; it's dance as made with a rock mentality. That sounds hokey, but this album gels and flows in ways dance music so rarely does.

It seems like it'd be harder to type like that than the proper way, but then my brain doesn't operate like that.

Did people think Lovitz was bad on this show? I thought he did well enough, given how underwritten his character was. They never figured out what to do with him; the most he was involved in storywise was a futile attempt at romantic tension between him and Beth. It failed, but I blame that on the writers and not either of the actors.

That Fratellis band is kinda horrible, huh?

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

I think I called him stupid or something in the music folder. -
I'm a fan, though that newest one isn't one of their better efforts. (I still like it, though.) Fantastic live show, too.
-
Impressive. The drummer was distractingly bad at times, though.

Black Lushus is a decent guy. Who cares about all this, really.

The Heart of Saturday Night has "New Coat of Paint," "Shiver Me Timbers" and the title track, among other goodies. Straying a bit from the thread here, but its follow-up, Nighthawks at the Diner, bores me to tears, even though it is generally heralded as one of the highpoints of his 70s work.
