  1. I give Kobe shit, as do many of us here, but he didn't have to do this event. That's nice of him to do this.
  2. Maybe the book was mentioned, but it was more than a book review: it was part of a cover story earlier in the summer.
  3. Not everybody watches football!
  4. To be fair, DCI produced the program, it was their idea that people need to see fluff (though all feedback has been "that marching was so cool...why aren't you showing more of it?"), and kinda left the whole show at ESPN2's doorstep. However, ESPN could've said they wanted more of the actual content, but they didn't.
  5. Correct, it is very important. That's why all the "Bush let it happen" crap doesn't work. But honestly, I don't think it's ever going to be the same again. There's going to be a presence for the shipping, maybe a naval base, but it's not going to be a major city again.
  6. We have to show how America is strong and can always rebuild itself. Dennis Hastert took a lot of shit for saying that it was patently ridiculous to rebuild on the existing site, because a floodplain like that would never be built on today. Save the French Quarter, and some of the necessary stuff for shipping, but no, you can't restore New Orleans completely. That's stupid.
  7. Hopefully the fact that Littlefield had the balls to fire a black manager gives MacPhail the green light to send Dusty Baker home.
  8. Didn't miss much. They did a shitty job again; they only showed fluff pieces ABOUT marching in drum corps, rather than just the marching.
  9. WHo were you before that?
  10. Watch it.
  11. Duh.
  12. Whip
  13. Two ramps take away floor seats, so Vince says no
  14. Who cares? One week was like two weeks and a half.
  15. Hm, I guess I got off easy.
  16. It's never a bad time to change the sets
  17. Yeah, that'll make WWE worth watching. The matches will still be bland, the storylines will be dumb, but Randy Orton's abs in high definition? I'm there!
  18. Like I think I've said before, Time has been getting very People-y and USA Today-y lately.
  19. Got me there.
  20. Interesting point, but I think the President probably believes that having two consecutive African-American Secretaries of State insulates him from any and all criticism on the issue of race. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bush isn't the only one who thinks that. Appointing an African-American to a prominent position is the political equivalent of saying "some of my best friends are black". <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But he's giving the jobs to two very qualified individuals in Powell and Rice. It's not as if he's plugging in women/minorities here and there to make the Cabinet That Looks Like America. If you're going to say he gave SoS to blacks twice just to prove he wasn't racist, you'd have to concede that Clinton appointing Albright and Reno was just to prove he respected women, since it's not like Janet Reno can fall back on merit.
  21. Whyyyyyyyyyyy don't we check WASPs at securrrrrrrrrrrrrrity? Timothy McVeeeeeiiiiigh didn't look like an Araaaaaaaaaaab
  22. Not always true, sometimes conservatism fucks over all but the very rich. But yeah, by and large, it looks out for the middle class. I don't know if I'd throw white or male in all the time, though.
  23. I think the NBA has a rule about not changing names, because the Clippers, Hornets, and Grizzlies all kept theirs in spite of geographic idiosyncrasy.
  24. He doesn't really have any history or even distinguishing qualities just yet, and as much as people prattle on about "nine old men (and women) in robes! wah!", I feel the head of our judicial branch should be a little up there. Jobber said that Scalia as CJ would be in return for writing the opinion in '00; I'm just afraid that creating The Roberts Court is supposed to be Bush's way of saying "thank you" to the Christian right, the way they've been begging and pleading (and threatening) him to do since he was inaugurated again. If Roberts turns out to be an arm of the evangelicals, that's more dangerous than an unlikable wiseass running the show.
  25. Michael Moore is irrelevant because he manipulates film and takes people out of context in his documentaries to such an extent that they no longer hold any veracity. "It's just entertainment!"
