  2. Graham Parker- Squeezing Out Sparks+Live Sparks
  3. I can't believe how many people I overheard say "Yeah I heard 21 sucked but I'm seeing it anyway!" Further proof that American filmgoers are stubborn idiots
  4. Guys, how come no one has brought up Marney through out all of this? She's obviously a prime suspect.
  5. Amnesia Glasscock/Man of 104 Friends/Penis Skullduggery/whatever the fuck that limey is calling himself these days.
  6. Ditto...except for Battle For The Planet of The Apes that shit sucked. THIS PLACE IS A MADHOUSE! A MADHOOOOOOUUUUUUUSE!
  7. Sting says hello...
  8. A Leena-Taiga alliance will destroy us all. Nothing good can come out of this! Seriously, as much as I hate TaigaStar, I don't really think she did anything to warrant being sent there.
  9. I bought a bootleg of the Coliseum Video version of In Your House I (basically the PPV with two shitty dark matches, Bam Bam/Tatanka and Undertaker/Kama) at an indy show about five years back. Besides Bret/Hakushi, there's a ***ish Roadie and Jeff Jarrett Vs Razor Ramon handicap match and a bunch of crap. What I would give to get the $10 I spent on that tape back. Ya know I wonder why the only guy Bret couldn't drag a good match out of in '95 was Lawler. Why was his series with Lawler in '93 so good and the one in '95 so lame?
  10. INDUCT THIS MAN INTO THE HALL OF FAME, VINCE! (Preferably with Scott Norton giving the induction speech...)
  11. As many of you know, I took a hiatus from wrestling from about April '03 (shortly after WrestleMania XIX) to January '06 (shortly before the Royal Rumble that year). One thing briefly broke me out the hiatus for an episode or two of RAW and that was reading of this feud on here. I was drawn to the prospect of seeing HBK as a heel again. I know guys like Triple H like to call HBK one of the best natural babyfaces in the business but for my money, the guy is best as a chickenshit heel. That and I wanted to know if HBK could carry Hogan to his first good match in decades. Now to answer my questions 1. Do you think WWE properly handled the storyline for this match? Yeah I guess if it got me watching again for a half-second. What else could they really do? 2. Do you think Shawn Michaels' overselling helped or hindered the match? Both but I think it helped more than it hurt. Hogan works best with smaller guys who are great bumpers. Yeah Michaels took it too far but it made the match one of Hogan's most watchable matches in years. 3. Has this match affected the way you look at either Hogan or Michaels as workers or as people? Nah, thought they were egomaniacal assholes before thought they were egomaniacal assholes afterwards. It did remind me how great of a heel Shawn Michaels was. 4. What impact, if any, do you think this match has had on their legacies? For Hogan, probably none. For Michaels, very little. I think the match reminded everybody the mini-miracles Michaels can do when he's given nearly nothing to work with. Perhaps that's why he was put with Chris Masters the next month... 5. Will we see another match between two wrestlers of this caliber (popularity wise) again? Have we seen one already, perhaps? I'm honestly not sure. You've got a lot of hypothetical dream matches (Hogan/Austin, Rock/HBK, Rock/Cena, etc.) but I don't think any of those will ever happen. I know a lot of you have said HBK/Taker but for me personally, I'd find it hard to get really hyped about it seeing how I saw it ten years and they'll probably never live up to that series. I guess Cena/Batista could be considered a dream match amongst younger fans, but as someone who's been more or less a casual fan for the past five years, I'd be hard pressed to muster up any excitement for that one
  12. Truthiness, what everybody is trying to say (I think) is that Flair, Rock, Hogan, Andre, and Austin are the only true legends- meaning that they are known by a good deal of casual fans and non-fans.
  13. I'm not happy with them remaking Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure but if they put their stinkin' paws on Bogus Journey I'll be ticked shitless.
  14. RIP Charlton. Hopefully you don't come across any of those damn dirty apes in heaven
  15. I'll answer the questions tomorrow morning when I have more time but I've got to ask, why do so many of you consider HBK Vs 'Taker a dream match? It's already happened three times! Granted, they were all more than a decade ago but still...
  16. You guys forget that La Parka is no pushover. He'll hit you in the head with a chair and be doing that funky dance of his before you could even get a shot in at him.
  17. I just took a look at the Slamboree '00 card and remembered that it's pretty good by Russo WCW standards. There's a damn good Mike Awesome/Kanyon match and I remember Hulk Hogan Vs Kidman being a semi-decent garbage match.
  18. IIRC, The Triple Cage match main event of Slamboree 2000 is actually pretty bitching despite the presence of David Arquette. It's the same match where Kanyon was thrown off the top of the triple cage through the entrance ramp a year (almost to the exact day) after Owen Hart's tragic death...IN THE SAME ARENA! You gotta love Russo.
  19. I love me some bagels with cream cheese and lox. Too bad there's only one place in the Portland area that has it. Whenever I make my way back to NYC, I'll make a point of it to have that breakfast every day.
  20. Behind The Match is the newest weekly thread for the WWE folder. In it, we'll take a look back at a recent match and discuss our thoughts on the match itself, the feud leading up to the match, and all those juicy behind the scenes tidbit we all love. Our first edition will be dedicated to In August 2005, Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan wrestled each other for the first time ever. IIRC, they hadn't even been on opposite side of the rings for a tag match before this. The storyline leading up to this match was incredibly controversial with HBK evoking The Montreal Screwjob...again. As the days winded down to SummerSlam '05, the IWC wondered which one would come top in a battle of two of the biggest egos in the wrestling business. The match itself was controversial with Shawn Michaels wildly overselling throughout much of it. A few questions to consider 1. Do you think WWE properly handled the storyline for this match? 2. Do you think Shawn Michaels' overselling helped or hindered the match? 3. Has this match affected the way you look at either Hogan or Michaels as workers or as people? 4. What impact, if any, do you think this match has had on their legacies? 5. Will we see another match between two wrestlers of this caliber (popularity wise) again? Have we seen one already, perhaps?
  21. FWIW, The Tsongas Arena holds about 7,000 people. What's TNA's attendance record? 6,000 Also FWIW, the best seats available are the $35 ones (second cheapest). I'm about two hours away from Lowell and I'm slightly tempted to go down to see this one but school and shit.
  22. I hope this question doesn't come off as insulting but I'm wondering why he decided to write about wrestling in the first place? It's a fairly odd thing to do for a living (assuming that he makes most of his living off his books).
  23. Robbie Williams- Rock DJ Robbie Williams was a favorite of a young Penis Skullduggery.
  24. Hey Cheech, I don't know if there'd be much interest in it but The Blue Meanie posts on a semi-regular basis at WrestlingClassics and I think he might be open to something like this. I could send a PM to him over there if you're interested.
  25. Hello citizens of the TNA folder. I haven't ventured here much since they booted Jearan (stupid goths) but I've started watching TNA here and there for the first time in years and thought I'd contribute to the discussion here. Instead of talking about the current scene (which I'm still catching up), I thought I'd took a look back at TNA's early years. That's right- we're talking about the weekly PPV days. FORMAT First, discuss the topic and your general thoughts about the item. After discussing the topic, check the additional questions located at the bottom of the post. Remember, the idea is to discuss the topic; the questions only serve as a guideline for what you might want to cover. TOPIC In March of 2001, the World Wrestling Federation became the sole major promotion in the United States of America after purchasing World Championship Wrestling and after Extreme Championship Wrestling filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In the ensuing months, several promotions started up and attempted the daunting task of becoming the #2 promotion in the country and filling the void left by WCW and ECW. Despite big name talent (Hulk Hogan in the XWF, Sting, Scott Steiner, Lex Luger, and Sid in WWA, Curt Hennig, Buff Bagwell, and various ECW alumnae in MECW), most of these promotions ended almost as soon as they started. In May of 2002, legendary wrestling promoter and his son, former WCW World and WWF Intercontinental Champion, Jeff threw their hats in the race by joining forces once vaunted National Wrestling Alliance to start NWA: Total Non Stop Action. On June 19th, 2002, TNA made its debut. The company immedietely gained attention amongst wrestling fans not only with its solid roster combining ECW and WCW talents not acquired by the WWF and up and coming independent stars but for its unique PPV format. Every Wednesday, TNA would put on a two hour PPV for the cost of $10. The PPVs, with the exception of the first two which took place in Huntsville, Alabama, all took place from the Fairgrounds in Nashville. This format lasted until September 8th, 2004 when TNA ended the weekly PPV format deciding that they had a big enough audience to maintain a monthly PPV schedule. QUESTIONS 1. How often did you buy the weekly PPVs? More than the monthly PPVs? Less? 2. What were the benefits of the weekly PPVs compared to the monthly ones? Drawbacks? 3. Do you think a promotion could ever successfully use the weekly PPV format? 4. What are some of your fondest memories of that era? 5. Do you think the weekly PPVs have any impact ( no pun intended) on TNA today?
