Only reason I mentioned a battle rap after the match is because Cena verbally dissed him last year for not showing up, and it would make sense. It'd be funny to see what Jay-Z says about Cena not main-eventing (a proclamation he made last year).
-
Nothing was hyped, and they still have not explained Benoit's defection to Raw yet, other than "I want your title Triple H".
-
Well, I think Cena is a better rapper than he lets on though. His slower version of rapping is just so the crowd can get their pops in. I just think it'd be cool for Jay-Z (or Nas) to come out after Cena wins the U.S. Title, and start battling with him. I'm not sure if Cena could drag a good match out of the Big Show, but who knows.
-
Well they're in MSG, so is a JayZ appearance out of the picture? Cena dissed him last year, and they could run a program where, after Cena FU's Big Show to win, Jay-Z comes out of no where and they begin to battle rap.
-
Honestly, I wouldn't mind Proof (or perhaps someone else with more "cred") rapping Cena to the ring, or for a celebratory collaboration with Cena afterwards. However, I'd rather they just focus on Cena winning the U.S. Title rather than a hip-hop show. In terms of the percentage of hip-hop fans in the audience, I'd say it's a substantial percent. In major urban areas, there are a lot of young people into hip-hop, and I know a lot of hip-hop fans who watch wrestling and like John Cena. I'd say NYC would pop huge for Cena personally.

To a big pop. Very true. I was in Hooter's and half the drunkards were booing, yet us younger guys who were in the tables were all cheering. It was the most gratifying elimination I saw. The funniest elimination was Mil Mascaras in 97. I can't help but laugh everytime JR says that line and Mascaras looks all confused.

It's a tossup between Owen and Austin, but I'd say Austin because he basically let everyone know who he is, and he never looked back from that night. Owen a VERY close second because he took the staple of "King" to the next level.

what matches are overrated/underrated
Austin3164life replied to slabinskia's topic in General Wrestling
Overrated: Any of the Brock/Angle matches (except for XIX) Michaels/Bret (WM XII) HBK/Undertaker (HIAC) Rock/Triple H (Summerslam 98) Triple H/Michaels (Summerslam 02) Underrated: Austin/Owen (Summerslam97, looked at for the botched finish) Cena/Benoit (12-4-03, Brock/Benoit overshadows) Triple H/Booker T (XIX) Austin/Rock (XIX) -
You forget that those crafty reversals cause all of the neck injuries we see in the WWE, and all the fault goes to those damn small fry wrestlers and their holds~! Why can't they just be like Triple H?

Chavo and Rey Jr. had a nice Smackdown match, I believe on the first "brand extension" show of Smackdown in 2002. Chavo used some nice groundwork and psychology, and then both of them proceeded to the high-spots when the match heated up (which wasn't after 20 minutes). I'm saying that they should mix it up with ground-work and high spots.

Notables Blast History Channel Documentary
Austin3164life replied to MrRant's topic in Current Events
I think anyone who believes the lone-gunman theory is a twit. I found the programs to be an interesting insight into the entire Assasination fiasco. The actual truth won't be revealed at least for another decade or two (when all those who were a part of, or around, the event have passed on). -
Exactly. The high spots of the matches were few but they all came at the opportune moment and made sense in the match. Cruiserweight wrestling should be ground-work mixed in with high-flying. Neither extreme does the division credit.
-
Personally, I think a cruiserweight match hurts when all the participants do is fly around. A cruiserweight shouldn't fly all the time, he should "cruise". Someone like Chavo or Knoble excell at this because they incorporate mat work and the high spots in the same match. Difference is, a high spot, or a risk maneuver, should only be taken towards the climax, when the participant feels they have to perform that particular spot. I think it's a good idea, I just hope ALL of the high-spots aren't taken out of the division.

What the others are trying to say is that it's fine if you like Shawn Michaels more, but I think it's strange to say that Shawn is better than Benoit. I feel Benoit is a much better wrestler than Shawn. Fact is, you might think HBK is better because he entertains you more, but Benoit is a far better wrestler than Shawn Michaels ever was.
-
This is a pretty stupid idea, if it didn't work last year, I doubt it's going to work this year. Just stick Cena in a U.S. title match and that would be fine for him. Although, a battle rap would be somewhat amusing.
-
I definitely wouldn't mind Angle vs. Eddy, however I'd rather have a better build to Angle's supposed heel turn. Plus, if they don't put the U.S. Title on Cena, or if he doesn't have a match at Wrestlemania, that would be illogical.
-
Unless those are b.s. spoilers, that sounds like a horrible show. I thought the build for Wrestlemania is supposed to be something "special".

how many matches do you consider 5 stars
Austin3164life replied to slabinskia's topic in General Wrestling
Benoit vs. Sasuke (Super J Cup 1994) Austin vs. Hart (Survivor Series 1996) Flair vs. Steamboat (Wrestlewar) In my eyes, a lot of other great matches fall somewhat behind these three. -
1995: Bulldog celebrates and Shawn comes back in and knocks him over the top, to a pretty nice pop. 1997: Mil Mascaras delivers a flying body press of the top to the outside, and the refs tell him to leave. JR- "I don't think Mil Mascaras understands the rules". 2004: Goldberg gets F-5'ed by Brock, stares Brock down, then proceeds to get tossed by Kurt Angle.

Lieberman has no chance of winning the presidency. I hate to sound somewhat trivial, but I think it's because of his Jewish heritage. I have nothing against him, but I think he's just a very bland candidate. The Democratic National Committee pooled all their resources into John Kerry this past month, and I think they want him to face Bush in November. Dean has the popularity, but he is a very emotional character on the camera, and some people aren't turned on by his aggressive stances on certain issues. Edwards has an outside shot, however he's a bit young and people will view him as inexperiencecd.

Benoit's heat has gotten sucked in by the "HHH is Raw" vacuum. In all seriousness, I think fans have no clue why Benoit is on Raw, and the WWE have not helped in explaining his defection from Smackdown.
-
Well, I'm not sure about the comparison in terms of ratings, but when I was watching Raw, I thought that Angle as World Champion didn't look right. His character was a mixture of Austin, Shamrock, and Undertaker rolled up into a dorky Angle. His first reign earlier that year (and late 2000) was better. I'm not blaming Angle, because it's hard to draw fans when your main opponent besides Austin was SHANE MCMAHON of all people. However, the "humungous pops" that I was expecting for Angle, I heard when Austin won the title back two weeks later, being a heel, and with interference.
-
I hate to sound optimistic in times like these, but since I happen to be a Cena mark, I think this DVD might be pretty good. I have his matches with Benoit, Undertaker, Angle, and Eddie Guerrero, and they are all entertaining matches (especially vs. Benoit, vs. Undertaker). I think it's kind of wrong to say those matches are horrible, but that's just my opinion. Okay, back to negativity......HOGAN SUCKS~! KEEP HIM AWAY FROM WM XX~! FUCK NOSTALGIA~!
-
The shittiness of his heel run, with him burying the WCW and ECW guys on a regular basis coupled with the fact that it took a massive terrorist attack to make Austin put someone over (Kurt Angle) after having him pointlessly going over just about everyone on the roster not named HHH made 2001 Austin's worst year by far..... If Austin had done the right thing and jobbed his ass off in 2001 to get Jericho, Angle, and Benoit over, it would be considered a revival. But as it is, 2001 was the year that everyone got their first look at what a selfish piece of shit Austin was.... I know, Austin's heel shtick was so terrible, all those fans had to cheer the hell out of him just so he could stop being a heel. And all those "classic" matches that everyone hails Austin for, everyone else was carrying him. I mean, come on, everyone's God, Chris Benoit, and the messiah of the WWE, Kurt Angle, made sure Austin looked like gold.......

Another bullshit way for HGH to lose without having to job to Chris Benoit.
