No NSFW warning, Robert. I'm off to Site Feedback to ask for your banishment into the realm of darkness - who will stand up for the banned when the banned stander upper is banned? WHO?! I will, and you will be let back. To save time, let's just say we already did all this.

oAo ECW on Sci-Fi Week 12 Thread - 8/29/2006
DrVenkman PhD replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
Allow me to restate what I just told you on IRC, just to clarify for all: Yes, it's probably fair to start one when WWE.com announces a match, especially if it's about 24 hours before the show. Like I said, this was not a shot at YOU, but the practice in general, as it can sometimes be out of hand. An example would be if tomorrow's ECW show announces a main event of, say, RVD and Sabu vs Heyman and Big Show for September 5th, Spoonbutter Toasterman will probably have the OAO thread up by Friday. I also think we are well past the point where we should brand the ECW shows by their week. Rant aside... hey, how about that Sabu/Heyman announced match? Gotta figure it's just a backdrop for something else. -
oAo ECW on Sci-Fi Week 12 Thread - 8/29/2006
DrVenkman PhD replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
This is not a personal shot at you, but I am getting a bit tired of these OAO threads popping up so early just so the topic starter can "break the news" when a match is announced. Raw hasn't even BEGUN and we already have a thread for an hour TV show happening the next day. -
That reminds me of the WGTT calling in sick when Angle returned to SmackDown. Wrestlers calling in sick = fun idea. Or when Commisioner Foley caught Christian faking sick to get out of a title defense against the Hardyz. God I hate that 'z' The best one when E/C were plotting an excuse to get out of a title defense against the APA, and decided on claiming they had genital warts. Except Foley was eavesdropping on their entire convo and made them fight anyway. "Think about it, no one's going to want to check us to see if we're telling the truth." "Yeah... Genital warts rule!" Foley: And genital warts do not rule. They're painful and humiliating. Or, so I've heard. What I remember most about Foley catching Christian faking his illness was Foley's apparent cybernetic implants in his eyes that allowed his POV to become a camera shot for the PPV.

1000 Reasons why Late Night with Conan O'Brien
DrVenkman PhD replied to The Mandarin's topic in Television & Film
Well it was apparently his idea for The Longest Yard to be wrestler-centric. -
Well at least you HAVE SummerSlam 96. For some reason I have missing "Big Ones" with Cogeco cable in Canada.
-
Was it here or hidden in "General Wrestling"? Either way that seems to answer the question of whether or not it deserves a spin-off thread. I suppose it is worth noting that (from the impression I get) the Comcast deal could possibly get more people to be aware of it, though.

1000 Reasons why Late Night with Conan O'Brien
DrVenkman PhD replied to The Mandarin's topic in Television & Film
Andy Richter is a huge fan... Conan seems "out of it" when wrestlers appear on his show. Unrelated note, wikipedia states that Adam Sandler and Jim Carey are big wrestling fans and declined to be in Nacho Libre because it "made fun of the sport they love". -
Saved By The Bell Questions That You Asked
DrVenkman PhD replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Television & Film
The fact that PSP seems to have a DK game is pretty newsworthy. -
Proposition: "The OAO 24/7 Thread". Discussion of what's on, what will be on, and even the internet version of it (the former WWE Jukebox). Enough interest?

The Chairman speaks on Kurt Angle By Louie Dee August 28, 2006 On Friday afternoon, WWE and Kurt Angle came to a mutual agreement on releasing Angle from his contract early. Several WWE Superstars have given WWE.com their reactions to Angle’s release, and on Monday afternoon, WWE.com spoke with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon about it as well. “It’s unfortunate that Kurt was released, and it’s really unfortunate for the WWE fans who for a while at least won’t see Angle in action,” the Chairman told WWE.com. “(Angle) is a consummate professional; obviously he’s a great athlete, and he’s the only Olympic Gold Medalist in WWE history. Not to have Kurt with us is really unfortunate all the way around...but circumstances were such that Kurt should have been and was granted his release.” However, McMahon also said that Angle’s success has come at a price, and that price is part of what led to his situation. “Kurt has a history of being one of the greatest athletes that America has ever seen. It’s no secret that even when Kurt won the Olympic Gold Medal, he did so with a broken neck,” he said. “Kurt has been dealing with that pain, and the advancement of that pain, as well as other injuries. He had been dealing with that injury since he won the gold medal; he had been masking it in many ways just so he could go out and compete. Kurt only knows 100 percent, he is not one of those guys who can go out and compete at an 85 percent level. He just cannot do that; he’s a thoroughbred. He has to go as fast and as great and as strong as he possibly can; that’s the only way Kurt Angle knows.” The Chairman also confirmed that the door is always open for Angle to return if and when he is able. “WWE would certainly welcome Kurt back with open arms,” the Chairman affirmed. “I think Kurt has some issues he has to face, as we all do from time to time. We all have our demons, and as human beings it is important for us to overcome them and become better human beings, athletes and business people.”

I got it last week and I enjoy it. Today I watched the 90 minute AWA special (which someone told me was part of a series of PPVs on DirecTV in 2002 - it's hosted by Mean Gene and seems to be under a banner of "Classic Wrestling"). I've been enjoying watching back-to-back Raw/Nitro as well. They are up to nWo winning War Games 96 right now, and the next new one will feature the Raw debut of Razor and Diesel II. It was also interesting watching Vader (Bullpower Leon White) sqaush The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sagonovitch in wrestling tights).

Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton (#1 IC title contender) and Torrie vs Candice (a "Back to School Girl Paddle on a Pole Match") have been added.

I was happy I took a few minutes away from Entourage to see the Stewart/Colbert bit. That was funny stuff. Also, very glad The Office won.

I was wondering why there was a Desperate Housewives commercial on NBC, but it hit me I'm watching CTV.

Isn't Marion Jones dead? Edit: No, that's someone else. Nevermind.

Go Piven!

What just happened? It seemed like they made a run in and Conan repeated their names twice.
