The One and Only Smackdown! HCTP Thread
Rendclaw replied to Insane Bump Machine's topic in Video Games
The more seasons you go through, the pairings of tag teams and title changes get weirder. My Bret Hart CAW has been having one hell of a feud with Shawn Michaels in the background of me building up Scott Steiner. The world title has been changing hands almost constantly, though I don't think that Shawn should be good enough to beat my Bret.... ah well... but then again Dave Hebner *is* the ref in the game. -

You are going to find that your CAWs can be hellacious, ESPECIALLY if you give them the "right" moves, those that play to that wrestler's intelligence. I had to try six or seven times with my Scott Steiner CAW to beat my Killian CAW in story mode, and even then I had to fight a running match the whole way. It was NOT fun. At all. -
Amen to that. The same goes for Laura Swisher. As with a lot of things, this could be very very good, or very very bad.

My question is where you get a translator. -
Good to see that you made it back alive, Fearless Leader. if all else fails, hit a Goodwill/Salvation Army for a bed on the cheap. Just make sure to pick the one with the least amount of stains and ask them if they cleaned it up. I had forgotten completely about you moving to CT, otherwise I would have tried to get ahold of you so that I could have met you when I was up there last month after my mother's funeral. Ah well.

I run across that every so often... heh, I don;t know why I keep making CAWs, since by the time I fill up the roster, SD6 will be out, and I have to start over... ::chuckles:: -
Brock and Bob Holly is another one....

An easy way to build up a wrestler fast is to make a bunch of Jobbers, with 1s in everything except stamina, raise that to 2. Replace the majority of the roster with the Jobbers, and your CAW will fight them for the majority of the season. With every match that you can, attack the Jobber after the match... the next week, when you look in the areas, chances are that the Jobber will be there and will challenge you to a match.... pound that Jobber, then you get more XP. The only drawback is that if you do it constantly, he will "recruit" an upper echelon wrestler to help out against you or fight for you. In the 2 on 1 situation, concentrat on the Jobber, and knock down the other one. In the case of the "substitute", go to the area with the steel cage, climb atop it and knock off the wrestler with punches when he gets to the top. This requires timing or you are going to get reversed a lot. Knock him off 6 or 7 times, until a body part is in the red, climb down (down and square at the same time) and pin him. Using this method, you can get a wrestler's stats to where you want inside of a season, with a part of a second, maximum. EDIT: the site I use is http://www.cheatsforplaystation2.com/hctp/cawindex.htm -
I just want the taskbar to not come up when I get an IM...

I always loved matches between Finlay and Regal.... The one Steiners/Jobbers tag team match I remember best, I used to have on tape. Rick hit a Jobber so hard with a Steinerline, he shattered his nose and knocked him silly. He tried to pick him up, but the guy was just out, so he pinned him. I remember JR lauding them for sportsmanship in ending the match prematurely. WCW ran a promo segment with the Steiners in Japan, and damn, they absolutely brutalized some people. Though my previously mentioned Faces of Fear/High Voltage match on Nitro still ranks up there. As a friend's friend put it, it was non-stop pain.

I loved kicking the crap out of a three-man team in SFA2 back when I was going to see MIB in the theatres, with Ryu, and alpha countering them into oblivion.

I just watched a 15-20 minute match with all four of my CAWs (my namesake, Killian (the hoss), Low-Ki and Bret Hart). Now THAT was a match... I would give it ***1/2, only because the best match I saw that I did not participate in was a **** match with Ric Flair and Stone Cold, of all people. ::goes back to having fun building up his Vader CAW:: -
Liger has to be my favorite Japanese junior/lightweight, with Dynamite running a very close second.. Mutoh's work as the Great Muta can never be understated. Back in the 80s when I saw him in NWA up against Flair and the like, I simply could not believe some of the moves he was pulling off as I had never seen them before.. I only have limited access to some of his work in Japan, but what I have seen just makes me go wow. Honorable mention to Shinya Hasimoto, the true Master of the DDT.

Trips and Kevin Nash are my nemeses in that game.... I have to really watch what I am doing with either one of them, though once my CAWs get around 88-95 Superstar Points, they become much less of a problem. Though if you have the game set on Smackdown difficulty are up against a wrestler with a minimum Tech rating of 7 or 8, its a reversal-fest. Angle, Benoit, and a few others are like that. I just use running moves a LOT to wear them down before I start going for grapples, but it can still get a little bit frustrating at times. Trivia247, I know what you mean by accuracy with moves... I was that anal-retentive when I was making the British Bulldogs and the Hart Foundation on SYM.... I had that classic Bret-Dynamite match on CD and that went a long way towards making the respective wrestlers better.... I like the Bret Hart CAW I made for HCTP, though I took out some moves and replaced them with moves that are more effective. The one thing I dislike about creating movesets is the fact that only certain moves can go to certain grapple sets. It should have been left wide open, so if someone wanted to fill the slots with all powerbombs, he could do that. Hopefully they will do that in the latest incarnation. -
This thread is cracking me up. I can see a sign or two in the audience on the following RAW, provided that they don't get confiscated.

That's my own point. I knew after reading that article, 90% of the posts were going to be people trying to guess who the person in the WWE is. Its "Willie the Worker" all over again. And Dynamite hit it right on the head. Cps posing as kids and teenagers trying to trap pedophiles has been a tactic used for years. While I can't fault the law enforcement agencies for doing everything in their power to put these sick, pathetic bastards behind bars, there is a line that should not be crossed. I am not defending these people, but every citizen of this country has rights, and entrapment of any kind violates those rights. Now before you people start lambasting me for being on RF's side, understand that if he did what he is being charged with, he should be put away and the key destroyed, not just thrown away. He should be banished from the sport, as well, as Dynamite said.

I was looking for a new game for my PS2, and while I had finally gotten the hang of and was doing well at Street Hoops (a HARD ass game until you get it), I bought ESPN Basketball. I have to say that I like it, a lot. I'm still messing with the sliders so that I'm not blowing teams out by 50 or 60 points, but as far as actually having to think and do a little more on the court, its not bad in that regard. Shooting free throws is harder than it should be, you actually have to box guys out to get rebounds, and its not just a matter of doing a special juke move and go flying in for the dunk, as your defender will draw a charge more often than not. the 24/7 mode is WAY hard, and I don't think I even want to mess with it at this point. I like the idea of building up your skills through doing certain things, but its just over the top with how difficult it is. All in all, its not a bad game... Anyone else got the basketball jones right now?

I've always worn plugs at concerts, unless I pull a stupid and forget to bring/buy them. I have always said that I didn't want to end up like Pete Townshend. I have always had sensitive hearing and if I am going to go to a concert where the decibels are going to be over 80, you can be damned sure I am going to wear them. Call me a pussy if you feel the need, but I like to preserve my abilities for as long as humanly possible. And AoO, if you honestly think you're not going to live to or past a certain age, unless you're doing some really fucked up shit, you're going to make it whether you want to or not, so plan accordingly, bro.
-
There are some things that really shouldn't be taken away from a match, such as the charge into the corner... it comes down to *when* its used in a match.. I know wrestling is a work, but I buy into the "human chess" principle. That's why in my opinion those matches from the 80s, say, a Steamboat Vs. Flair are grandmaster level "human chess" matches. Predetermined outcome? Sure. But the journey to that outcome should be the best way possible. And some of the most devasating blows are not with a closed fist. Palm strikes to the right areas can kill a human being or severely incapacitate him.

Benoit is 'just a transitional champion'...

My feelings on it, exactly. -
I'm freaking 35 years old, and I had no problem understanding him. But then again, I've been around the development of the language and vernacular since the 70s, back when it really was called jive by those who didn't know better.

Even though I am going to probably get dogged for this, Return of the King was the proper way that you end an epic trilogy. Everything is tied up in the last 25-30 mins of the movie. The ending to The Breakfast Club was good, too.

The way I see it, it comes down to the dispelling your sense of disbelief... I think only after someone has been beaten down sufficently or off balance does an irish whip of any kind actually work, regardless of weight. Wrestlers of equal size can and should whip and reverse each other around with impunity, while a cruiserweight like Rey knows that even against a normal heavyweight he is going to get reversed more often that not, so one would think that a counterattack off the ropes would be the best strategy. That's why I groaned last night when Big Show went up against Rey, because the size difference is so damned massive that it wasn;t going to be a very entertaining match. If you are going to put someone up against Rey, he should be big enough to be subjected to Rey's offense, like an Eddie Guererro. That's why the title match between them was another in a long line of wrestling classics, dating back to their lucha days, and going through their matches in WCW. Eddie may be bigger and stronger than Rey (and to be honest, who isn't), but he is not immune to any of Rey's moves, and it makes for a MUCH better match than against Show or say, a Brock Lesnar.
-
Now THAT is a good idea! You guys have to remember that the germans have been modified to reduce risk of the victim getting dumped on his head. Kurt used to have a gorgeous german, but now it looks like crap. And Eddie had a devastating looking brain buster, but that have been changed as well, not to mention Chavo. Reduced risk translates to terrible-looking moves. I like the fact that Benoit actually dumped Batista on his head a couple of times during his series of suplexes.

I think that some submission moves were slated as a "break-down" hold, though that can be used for submissions.... but I agree, it should be all or nothing on the submission meter when it comes to certain holds.
