Man this sucks for West Virginia. You fight against the skeptics down the stretch and then possibly lose to PITTSBURGH?!?! Who thinks that even if WV pieces this thing back together that the voters aren't going to abandon ship and put OSU into the title game?

Just to think we are a mere hour from a nightmare BCS scenario that could give us a Ohio State vs. Georgia title game.

    Best Promos Ever

On the WWF SummerSlam 1993 hype show a week before the pay-per-view Jim Cornette cuts an awesome promo for Yokozuna after Yokozuna defeats Hacksaw Jim Duggan. The basic premise of the promo is that Luger has awakened the monster that is Yokozuna and is going to die in the ring and when he looks at Cornette or Fuji to end the beating they won't be able to help him "because its gone too far." Awesome promo by Cornette that would've made me lay down some $$$ for the show if I'd have seen it back in 1993. Cornette also cut a pretty good promo after Yokozuna got by Luger at WrestleMania X and was getting ready to face Bret Hart now that I think about it.

    College Hoops: December '07

I'm wondering how much North Carolina is going to crush UK in a few minutes. I think we'll keep it close in the first half and then North Carolina will pound us into oblivion in the second. However, it could get real ugly if Patterson gets into foul trouble early.

Levels you hate in game you love

Without a doubt the "Control" level in Goldeneye. The reason it took me nearly seven years to beat that game was that I could not protect Natalya when she's typing all the codes into the computer to disable the Goldeneye. Playing that level on 00 Agent sucked because you have to strategically conserve your ammunition due to the fact that it takes more shots to wipe out the bad guys. However, I guess the level wasn't too hard once I figured out an easier route to the end of the level after I protected Natalya and found some extra body armor to heal myself. Also, with Goldeneye the Aztec Complex was never a fun level. You have Jaws with his assault rifles and all the Moonraker's with their lasers and on Secret and 00 Agent that level can be a nightmare. While it's easy to kill Jaws if you just walk up close and blast away, there are infinite guards in the mission and when your waiting for the 30 seconds for the shuttle to launch after you program the data it seems that they all rush at you at once. I still remember nearly throwing my N64 controlled through the TV screen after I had two seconds to go and a Moonraker rolled across the floor and shot me in the chest with a laser beam and I died. The rest of Goldeneye rocked, though. In my opinion one of the top 3 games I've ever played and still pop it in from time to time for fun.

The OAO TEW/EWR Thread of Fun!

Should I be so paranoid about making money every month? I hate to run deficits but when you run a small fed sometimes I guess you can't help it. Anyone also have any advice on wage caps for the level of promotion your running? Right now I've got a regional fed and I'm wondering what is the best way to balance my books for worker salaries when contract negotiations come around.

I'm probably cynical but I can't help but wonder if this will help or hurt Hillary's standing in the polls. Maybe it'll play up some sympathy but if this thing goes bad it may reflect poorly on her.

Most shocked you have ever been while watching wrestling

Wasn't this the first show Russo had a hand in booking and came after that horrible RAW with taped matches from Europe? I remember as a big WWF fan back then I was like "this show sucks" and then the next week or so it seems the whole Austin-Bret fight all over the arena and ambulance angle occurred and I was like "this is great!"

    Worst promos ever

I thought that was a good promo before he said "I'm gonna win that Rumble Royal today..." However, that's just a minor messup. It's one of the better Herc promos I've ever seen. YES! When people ask me what the worst promo they've ever heard was I immediately point to this one. It's great for comedy value but it does NOTHING to sell the people on the match. It's absolutley absurd and ridiculous. To be honest, Hogan's WCW promos, especially in the mid 1990s in the NWO era, are horrible. On one Nitro tape I have he's talking about wrestling the Ultimate Warrior at Halloween Havoc and talking about wrestling "Gorgeous George in heaven, brother!" and in another promo he complains that there is too much "goo goo and ga ga" going around WCW. Like wtf?!?!

I thought John McCain won the debate last night followed by a strong performance by Mike Huckabee. Rudy held his own but Fred Thompson was awful and Romney was stumbling over himself a lot. Before the debate I was strongly in Romney's corner but after last night's performance I am not so sure. Was I the only one that was a little perturbed by Jeffrey Tubin's remarks that Mike Huckabee needs to get "serious" about some of his issues? Tubin wrote off the whole fair tax idea by simply saying it was dumb. No real substance, just asserting that Mike Huckabee was some whacko for wanting to get rid of the IRS. While I agree that the idea is radical it's not like the diea of a fair tax is a new idea or one that has never been implemented. In fact, Central European states have been using it for a while now.

This is probably going to sound crazy but I'm not giving up on John McCain's chances yet. I have this gut feeling that he could pull off a John Kerry-like comeback and win this nomination because a lot of the criticisms the Kerry camp was facing four years ago at this time is what McCain is facing right now. That said, I think the GOP matchup is going to be Romney vs. Guiliani and I think that benefits Romney because many of the social conservatives are going to remain wary of Rudy (even with the Pat Robertson endorsement) and go to Romney's camp. However, Romney's major problem now is to protect his Iowa flank from a surging Mike Huckabee who has benefited from the departure of Sam Brownback from the race.

    The College Football Thread 11/20 - 11/24

Amen brother. I get sick and tired of commentators acting like the Big East is the worst of the major conferences in college football when the ACC hasn't done much of note over the last several seasons. Also, I don't see what the fuss is about with the Big Ten versus the Big East. Sure, Louisville underperformed this year BUT what did the Big Ten have outside of a surprising Illinois team and Ohio State? Not much. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ohio State leapfrog West Virginia, though, because the Big Ten has way more pull than the Big East has. The Big East can get pushed aside and there won't be much fuss but if it was the other way around we'd probably never hear the end of it. The whole situation makes me laugh anyway because in NCAA Football 2007 in my sixth season at Western Kentucky (which I moved to the SEC after my fifth year) I leapfrogged a #2 West Virginia team after crushing Tennessee in the SEC title game to play Arizona State for the national title. Poor West Virginia won like 38 straight games in that dynasty and they NEVER got to play for the national title because they were leapfrogged every single year in the BCS (mostly due to the computers).

    The Youtube Thread

I'm a big Martel mark, he's one of my all-time favorite wrestlers. I enjoyed his brief WCW run and loved it when he became TV champ. I've heard a rumor that at SuperBrawl where he suffered his career ending injury he was originally supposed to beat Booker T and Saturn in that gauntlet match (which Booker ended up winning). Is that true?

I'm glad LSU is out of the picture. I haven't been a fan of their play all year long and did not want to see them in the national title game. However, it does suck for them to be knocked out of national title contention due to two losses in triple overtime. Is there still a possibility that if Kansas wins out in the Big 12 that Ohio State could leapfrog West Virginia and get into the title game? The CBS announcers were seeming to salivate at the prospect of Ohio State playing tougher opponents than West Virginia and that they should be able to get into the national title game.

Yea, that's the general argument (with the Big 12 being the perfect example). However, the rankings always benefit teams who are ranked high at the beginning of the season or lose early. With the BCS at least we get a "national title game" but the only time that is ever acceptable is if there are two unbeaten teams playing for the title. I just can't see a playoff ever being developed for college football. First, how many teams would you include? How would they be chosen? What about all of the other "bowl" games that football programs say they need for dollars? Personally, I'd love for there to be a 8-12 team playoff over a three or four week period chosen by a Selection Committee like they do for the basketball tournament. I don't care to watch 6-6 teams against 7-5 teams in bowl games that don't really mean much unless your a fan of either team. However, this imperfect system seems to be the best we're going to get for the time being because I just don't think there is a "perfect" fix or a reasonable acceptable fix for enough of the college presidents to accept.

    Worst President Ever?

You have to blame Reagan for this too. Reagan was a very close ally of Marcos. Both men practiced realpolitik in the Philippines And ended a colonial-style occupation of a tiny country. This was the right thing to do. We never should have given away the Canal. Whether it was the "right" thing to do is irrelevant. The strategic importance of the Panama Canal cannot be underestimated for the United States and now the Panamian government has given control of the shipping ports of the Pacific and Atlantic ends to a Hong Kong firm with connections to the Chinese government. This is a huge problem if there is ever a "war" over Taiwan because the Chinese could in effect shut down the canal and wreck our trade. I think Carter was an idealist in foreign policy and wanted there to be human rights and "do the right thing" but often times you simply cannot do that when you forsake national interests which is what happened with the Canal. I also blame Carter for the allowing the fall of the shah in Iran which I consider a big foreign policy blunder. I'm not saying the shah was all great but allowing an Islamic Republic to form in Iran only led to us supporting Saddam in the brutal Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s and we lost a crucial ally in the region.
