  1. I'd rather take the half inning with the run scoring rather than risk needing four innings from the bullpen. I wonder, would it be worthwhile strategy to put Brett Myers on the mound? I'm ticked off. Not at the executives, who really have no control over this. It's just the elements. There is nothing you can do about the rain and that really stinks.
  2. The conditions sucked, but I am NOT going to accept this World Series on technicalities.
  3. Wow. Bud Selig announced that if the Phillies were leading, it would've been in an indefinite rain delay.
  4. -Game suspended, will resume at 8pm tomorrow at the earliest. -Bud Selig blames faulty intelligence. -They do not know when they will resume playing. -Game will resume at the bottom of the sixth, score tied.
  5. Press conference at 11:20pm.
  6. In seriousness, I think the suspension rules need to be amended for the playoffs. Any game is suspended, regardless of current score, or whether it's official. No rain-shorted games, or games in progress cancelled.
  7. Official decision: Series moved to Milwaukee!
  8. This is terrible as far as I'm concerned. Even if the Phillies win, what kind of farce of a series clinching victory is it?
  9. God damn it that rendition was a piece of shit. I despise when anyone tries to turn it into their version of American Idol and tries to hit the high note at the end. To hear 2 1/2 minutes of that? Ugh.
  10. Sgt. Slaughter. I had no idea he was such a great worker in his prime.
  11. The Rays still have a shot in this series. They have a tough lefty on the mound tonight, and good starters available for games six and seven. With Kazmir on the mound, the Phillies really need Pat Burrell (0 for 12 thus far) to step up and deliver a big hit.
  12. You and me both. No matter how good Cardenas and Outman become, flags fly forever.
  13. AIM chat at TSMWorldSeries.
  14. Andre also interfered in a Hogan/Bundy match on SNME.
  15. Given that this looked like the worst pitching matchup for the Phillies, this win is absolutely huge. Jamie Moyer put together a start to match the hype. What a great story.
  16. Ok. Now I believe in the Phillies! They can win this series.
  17. The Rays will live, I'm sure.
  18. It's still better than that song that just repeats "Rays!" for five minutes straight.
  19. AIM Chatroom is TSMWorldSeries.
  20. Eight years ago, Bill James produced his book on win shares. In that book, he listed each franchise's top 25 players by that statistic. In the ensuing period, the Phillies have had a run of success, finishing above .500 nearly every season and winning back to back division titles for only the second time in franchise history. With the club now producing several franchise players, I thought it might be worth updating the list. 1. Mike Schmidt (467) 2. Ed Delahanty (365) 3. Richie Ashburn (289) 4. Robin Roberts (277) 5. Steve Carlton (276) 6. Sherry Magee (274) 7. Bobby Abreu (247) 8. Pete Alexander (238) 9. Roy Thomas (233) 10. Del Ennis (215) 11. Dick Allen (211) 12. Johnny Callison (209) t-13. Gavvy Cravath (188) t-13. Chuck Klein (188) t-15. Jimmy Rollins (184) t-15. Greg Luzinski (184) 17. Willie Jones (179) 18. John Titus (177) 19. Cy Williams (176) 20. Sam Thompson (166) 21. Billy Hamilton (165) 22. Pat Burrell (163) t-23. Von Hayes (158) t-23. Fred Luderus (158) 25. Darren Daulton (154) Chase Utley currently has 126 win shares. He is signed through 2013, and if he maintains his current pace he could begin to challenge that top six. Ryan Howard has 94 win shares. No one else on the team is currently within striking distance. Rollins is under contract through 2011. Again, he could end up with about 260 win shares at the end of his deal.
  21. The Phillies are miffed that not every player was announced before game one, only the starting lineup. Thank goodness we got Kevin Kennedy and the Chevy Pre-game show though! Seriously, game one of the World Series is special, every player deserves introduction. I think they get the game in tonight. It's rainy in Philly today but it's an all day rain, supposed to end sometime this evening. With the rain ending at some point, I imagine they will wait to start the game if need be. Jamie Moyer tonight, making his World Series debut in his 22nd year of professional baseball. Matt Garza had a great outing in game seven, but I wonder if the pitch count will have an effect on this outing. Garza is also a fastball/curveball righty, giving Ryan Howard perhaps his best chance to break his slump.
  22. Overheard via XM Radio. Harry Kalas tells a story about sitting in a bar with Richie Ashburn. A hooker walks up and tells them she'll do whatever they want for $100. Ashburn thinks a moment and asks, "can you do the pregame show?"
  23. Bingo. The divisional round is entirely useless.
  24. I actually think this series going forward is quite intriguing. The Phillies have shown a fair bit of ability despite their lack of clutch hitting. This should remain competitive throughout.
  25. The only thing that sucks more than baseball in the cold is no baseball at all.
