  1. I knew it was Juan Pierre when you said he led the league in at bats. He is really the second incarnation of Willie Wilson.
  2. Remember those Win Share totals are updated through Sept. 23. Vlad will gain big thanks to the last week when they do the final calculations. How so? Win shares has a few defensive measurement mechanisms which are far above any other statistical evaluation of defense can measure. I'd like to know what your specific complaints are.
  3. Ok. My stab at this.... C- Jorge Posada 1B- Albert Pujols 2B- Marcus Giles SS- Derek Jeter 3B- Adrian Beltre LF- Lance Berkman CF- Jim Edmonds RF- J.D. Drew SP- Curt Schilling SP- Pedro Martinez SP- Roy Oswalt SP- Johan Santana CL- John Smoltz
  4. Odd stat. The Chicago White Sox this season were 61-45 against righties, but 21-34 against lefties.
  5. Looks like Lightning Flik, Alfdogg, and myself are next.
  6. Ok guys. We have myself, Pinjockey, the Man In Blak, and Smell the Ratings! have qualified for the TSM Champions league. Go ahead and post your rosters in here. You have until the first pitch Tuesday. I'll make my picks later this evening.
  7. Before I get to the actual ballot, let me get the rules out of the way. You will place votes for the eight awards voted upon by the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), as well as the gold glove recipients. PM your picks or e-mail them to [email protected]. Voting will end at midnight ET on Sunday night. MVP Guidelines Here are the actual instructions sent to each voter with their MVP ballot... Dear Voter: There is no clear-cut definition of what Most Valuable means. It is up to the individual voter to decide who was the Most Valuable Player in each league to his team. The MVP need not come from a division winner or other playoff qualifier. The rules of the voting remain the same as they were written on the first ballot in 1931: 1. Actual value of a player to his team, that is, strength of offense and defense. 2. Number of games played. 3. General character, disposition, loyalty and effort. 4. Former winners are eligible. 5. Members of the committee may vote for more than one member of a team. You are also urged to give serious consideration to all your selections, from 1 to 10. A 10th-place vote can influence the outcome of an election. You must fill in all 10 places on your ballot. Keep in mind that all players are eligible for MVP, and that includes pitchers and designated hitters. Only regular-season performances are to be taken into consideration. Votes are tallied on a 14, 9, 8... pattern. Cy Young & Manager of the Year Guidelines Straightforward. Just vote for the three pitchers and managers you think deserve the award. Scoring is done on a 5-3-1 system. Rookie of the Year Guidelines Rookie eligibility is defined as less than 130 at bats, 50 innings pitched, or 45 days on a major league roster. Please read this next sentence carefully, as it will save us alot of headaches. Lew Ford is not eligible for this award. He spent more than the minimum time with the Twins last year, on the DL. So votes for him will be discounted. Gold Glove Guidelines There are no set rules, but please try to avoid embarassing gaffes. Make sure the player you selected actually played that position. Now, here is the ballot. Copy and past it or whatnot, fill it out, and send it either via PM or e-mail to [email protected]... 9. Now, come on, we could get a rematch of that thrilling 2002 ALCS. I can't remember a single thing that happened in that series. I do. Game five (I think). The Angels are one inning away from making the World Series for the first time in history. Troy Percival is on the mound, and it is merely a formality. A magical march to the title, right. Of course, just as soon as Fox finishes showing a commercial, followed by another commercial, and another commercial, and another commercial, and another commercial, and another commercial, and another commercial, and another commercial, and another commercial, and another commercial, and another commercial. Seriously, fox spent EIGHT FUCKING MINUTES showing commercials in order to fulfill contractual obligations, and got back barely in time for the third out. Fuck fox.
  10. Try Pro-Football-Reference.com. It's not as polished as its baseball partner, but there is alot of information there.
  11. I am not familiar with Cerutti's work, but it is a shame to see anyone die young like that. A real black mark on an already disappointing season for the Blue Jays.
  12. Last day, as Bored and I are tied 8-8. RBIs and steals are tied at the moment.
  13. The Yankees have won 100+ games this season, giving them three consecutive seasons of 100 wins. This is the fifth franchise to accomplish that, and none of them have been Yankee squads. The other four were the 29-31 Athletics, 42-44 Cardinals, 69-71 Orioles, and 97-99 Braves.
  14. Simple scenarios tomorrow. If Houston wins, or San Francisco loses, the Astros make the playoffs. If Houston loses and San Francisco wins, we'll have a one game playoff Monday at SBC Park.
  15. The thing is, it's not like Boston was ever really even all that close to winning the division. This from the fan who said it wasn't over until it was clinched? Boston had a reasonable shot at one point, maybe one in four. But if they had pulled it off, you can bet your ass there would have been demand for a product commemorating the season victory over the Yankees. Hence the shirt is produced.
  16. I just take issue with whether we can judge if a player has brought their "A" game. There is a difference between a lack of effort and a slump. Certainly there are several players who do give less than maximum effort. I don't think the Cubs quit. They are still trying out there. But this team has flaws, which have a tendency to be exposed at the worst times. This team makes too many outs. They rank 1st in slugging, and 11th in OBP. That kind of discrepancy doesn't happen very often, and when its an entire team, I would tend to blame the coaching staff. But I don't think lack of effort is the cause.
  17. It is common practice to print up shirts like those beforehand, so they are ready immediately, rather than a few weeks after the fact. Right now there are probably shirts and apparel floating around for both the Athletics and Angels. Most are destroyed, or sent to third world countries.
  18. The mentality that the players quit really pisses me off. They like being embarassed? Is their talent so great that victory is only a matter of wanting to win? People seem to forget that a crucial part of professional sports involves another team on the other side, staffed with equally talented players. Victory is not guaranteed by turning on a light switch.
  19. No Fox Sports on my cable network. Sometimes the regional Comcast Sports channel will carry shows from FSN though, such as I,Max.
  20. From the same site.....
  21. If Anaheim wins today, they clinch the AL West. Here's hoping that the A's win at least to make it interesting tomorrow. Meanwhile, the wild card is essentially down to the Giants and Astros.
  22. For the 1,000,000th time. This is a kayfabed list. Actual wrestling ability has little to do with it. It is more along the lines of Struan's "Push Me Poll" for what they are trying to accomplish. That's why Matt Morgan rates above these guys. Because in the kayfabed wrestling world, he is harder to defeat. I won't defend that specific selection, but that is the reasoning behind it. I am guessing they count his work as Nick Dinsmore in OVW as well.
  23. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1893210 Murphy claims he'll try civil litigation, but again, he has no real case.
  24. Fuck. The A's will need to win the last two games of the season to make the Playoffs.
  25. Beyond that, it's an alleged comment that happened to be made after the tape recorder was turned off. It was deemed inadmissible. Obviously, the state has been embarassed in their unfair attempt to go after an innocent man. If they can't get Kobe in prison, they'll tear down his image and character. I think adultery and sexual deviance did a good enough job on its own.
