I'm glad to see the Shorties with Eddie Guerrero are some matches I've never seen before. -
Dodgers/Athletics World Series: Game 3

And to a lesser extent Derek Jeter's walkoff in the 2001 World Series. -
Roster expansion is September 1, that's hardly an obscure fact. If there was no scheduled game, the game would need to be replayed in its entirety, unless it were not necessary to determine a playoff entrant.

Today on XM Radio, Kevin Kennedy extolled Joba Chamberlain's virtues in the bullpen by mentioning that the Yankees are 25-4 when Joba pitches. Great stat, right? Chamberlain only pitches when his team is winning in the first place! Of those 29 games, Joba came in with the lead 22 times. Only twice has Chamberlain entered a game with his team trailing, and just five tie games. Of course the Yankees are going to win when he pitches.

Isn't Todd Kalas one of the TB television announcers?
-
Yes. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/downloads/y2008/off...ending_game.pdf I can't cut and paste text, but check the top of page 42 and the previous page. They cover that situation specifically. Teams could abuse the rules or take advantage, but it probably is not worth the effort.

With the game suspended, they will almost certainly need to pick it up in Baltimore, as the O's don't come to Chicago again the rest of the season. That should be a fun quasi-doubleheader. How do you handle a suspended game that isn't resumed for weeks, namely, roster changes? Basically you can use any new player in the game, you only can not use a player already substituted for. If a player in the game is off your team, you simply use a substitute in his place. The MLB rulebook is pretty clear in the rule that if possible, this game should be made up prior to the next White Sox/O's game in Camden Yards.

What was this in reference to? I believe one of the Pit Bulls got in legal trouble for distributing steroids, or something of that nature. -

Here's a pet peeve. The Mets/Pirates game in Shea was rained out. Rather than make it up the next two days the Bucs are in town, the Pirates must return on August 11th on what would have been an off day for both clubs. Honestly, are you really going to pull in that big a gate against a last place team on a Monday? Just play the damn doubleheader.

Something has changed with blackout rules, as recently ESPN has begun airing Yankees and Mets matchups that were previously blacked out. This is a great development as Dan Shulman is one of the best announcers in baseball and Michael Kay is, well, not. Orel Hershiser made a joke that Casey Blake had a chance to tie a record for assists in an inning. I have no way of checking, but that may not be true. It is fully possible to record an assist without an out. If a first baseman commits an error by missing a throw for example, the fielder who made the throw would still get an assist. It is fully possible that some third baseman has collected four assists in an inning.

Don't give up, 12 of those 36 are head-to-head.

Now not to defend Roger Clemens, but shouldn't this require more evidence than the say-so of a guy sued in a defamation lawsuit?

36 games left, we're in the last two weeks of the simulation. I've got a four game lead on Bored, eight on HarleyQuinn. I think I can improve my team going into the stretch run by cutting unproductive pitchers and running my guys on shorter rest.

The Phillies/MLB produced a new dvd of Richie Ashburn. It is really a tremendous package considering the treasure trove of archival material unseen for a long time.

I rented this game recently off Netflix. I thought I had pegged the Gibson walk-off, but this game certainly did not disappoint. A 2-1 victory highlighted by Mark McGwire's walk-off home run in the ninth. A few thoughts: -It surprises me somewhat that you rarely hear about this homer from McGwire, even during his playing days. You would think a player known for his home run exploits would have this one highlighted. -McGwire's home run game came three days after Gibson won game one with his own home run. This was the first time two batters hit walk-off home runs in the same series. The only other series to earn this distinction was the 2004 NLCS. -I will never, ever complain about too many pickoff throws again. Bob Welch threw over eight times after Steve Sax reached base to leadoff the game. The eighth inning was interminable, with the Athletics obsessed with neutralizing Lasorda's running attack. -Despite the throw overs, the constant threat of hit and runs, steals, etc. make this game very interesting. Broadcaster Vin Scully does an outstanding job of giving the relevant situation, letting the viewer know the potential strategy given the statistics and results of the season. Fox should watch Scully and NBC work games and take notes.

Diamondbacks on TBS and Fox. So much for that national bias.

Winfield played in a tougher offensive era, so his numbers don't look as good as they would in Larkin's age. Larkin was better at getting on base, Winfield hit for more power. Without adjusting for era, Larkin was actually a better hitter. Winfield comes out ahead slightly when you make the adjustment. On pure ability, Larkin would beat Winfield. The only additional consideration is that Winfield played in 800 more career games.

Top 50 Stars of the Last 50 Years

The problem with Raven is that there are a ton of wrestlers who fit on that level. Mr. Perfect, Ted DiBiase, Arn Anderson, the Honky Tonk Man, Brutus Beefcake, etc. That a guy has great matches, interviews, "gets" the business, etc. has nothing to do with making the list. A guy has to stand out. In regards to Gene Kiniski and company, I am looking for star power in their own time. Kiniski was the NWA World Champion for three years when that title was the biggest drawing card in wrestling. Vader, Hall and Nash were all considered, I just had to make a cut somewhere. A lot of guys from say 35-70 could fall anywhere on the list. Mil Mascaras headlined MSG a few times in his heyday. I think he's still the most recognizable mexican star in this country. -
Lugo's not a terrible player, he'd make a suitable utility infielder. Morris has been unspeakably awful. His 9.67 ERA in 22.3 IP doesn't even take into account his seven unearned runs allowed.

Bingo. If you give non-wrestling fans the name of George Steele, I bet you the vast majority of them can identify him as a professional wrestler. Luke-O, why Raven? -
If I'm not mistaken, CJ's been welcome back for years, but he has no interest in returning. It's been quite a while since I talked to him, I really should get back in touch.

Umpire Kerwin Danley was injured, perhaps badly, at the Rockies/Dodgers game. He was struck by a pitched ball from Brad Penny, and taken off the field on his back in an ambulance.
