  1. Even if the story was McMahon vs. Austin in 98/99? Notice how I used present-tense? Not that it matters, but trying to throw past exceptions to the present rule is a lil underhanded. Not that I mind I never said wrestling and acting weren't similar, infact I said they are relatable (enough to use the same terms), but wrestling is not acting; therefore to criticize a wrestlers acting ability is silly. What works in a wrestling storyline usually doesn't work in anything else. What works for a wrestler usually doesn't work when that wrestler tries to act (Austin on Nash Bridges). What works in the ring, usually doesn't work in anything else. There are several reasons why Austin/McMahon "worked", and it would not have worked in anything else other than wrestling. It took a real life situation (McMahon screwing Bret, making Vince the bad guy), and a very hot character (Stone Cold Steve Austin), along with great supporting characters (Tyson, Michaels, Foley, Rock), during a hot period of time for the wrestling industry and got a lot of milage and popularity out of it using classic wrestling formulas (also some of the same stuff that worked in Bret/Austin) and creative moments. And to answer your question, people didn't pay to see the story of McMahon vs. Austin, they paid to see Austin kick the shit out of McMahon. One of the best storylines ever, I think it was more accidental the way it turned out than worked. Supports my wrestling by wire philosophy. Wrestling needs unpredictability. Just give a wrestler a mick and tell him to carve a niche for himself.
  2. Yes, I think we can be happish. I prefer Amore any day (but cant say the same about Borash but Banks seems ok). Tenay of course I like. Would have prefered Douglas and Lynn to round it out at an votable 5, with Lynn taking X Div duties and Douglas taking hardcore matches.
  3. I agree, but I never wanted to see AJ as champion and thats no disrespect to him. I would have and have stated this several times that I prefer Raven (I can only wish ) and Monty over AJ. Even Killings or Abyss.
  4. It would make the last year of Jarrett having the title a waste. AJ would be a good champion, but i think it's not the right time for this. If they consider this a feud. It's just as poorly booked as bossman vs big show. If they hold off just one more month for Monty....there would at least be a build and a well known history between the 2. They aren't even playing up the fact AJ beat JJ once already for the title. They aren't playing up their history and there hasn't been any interaction between them. It would just be horribly random for AJ to win tonight. Now if they waited another month and put it AJ it would be ok, cuz at least that would allow time for them to build up this match to have some pay-off. Not as much of one as putting the title on Brown would have though. Exactly, TNA just flushed 11 months down the toilet. Monty should have won the guantlet and JJ retained. Then Monty rips off a promo attacking JJ and admitting that he made a mistake trusting him. This all after he pounced JJ in a tag match since JJ was going to take him out (Monty and JJ vs whoever). But I must admit, Styles-Abyss have history together and a good chemistry . . .
  5. I agree with what you say which is a great shame cause they have shown that they can be different. Whats this about Luger please? :S
  6. Frankie is for sure.
  7. Cuz they get paid to do so. wrestling is not real. No shit, that's not what this threads about. Like those aren't the most obvious questions that apply to any wrestling federation. Its like asking. "Why do babyfaces tend to mention the town they are in when they are on the mic?" the thread is about WWE angles and stories, not the general way wrestling companies run shows. Yes but still. I think such points expose the business. And I basically just watch WWE except for slivers of TNA, ROH and CZW here and there. And in reply to the 10 minutes and worn out thing. Why does a tomebstone and not a last ride or a chokeslam finish it? And why can you only kick out of a finisher at a PPV? and trade finishers for that matter?
  8. Do it God.... Yes I dont think its right to even contemplate it just because hes a JJ mark. I dont like JJ. But I agree with him that its pointless going to AJ when it should go to Brown (or Raven, forget Matt, he shouldnt get a free shot as soon as he comes in). If thats the case it is.
  9. I am one of the few to think that going up against RAW on Mondays is suicidal? IMHO I think that TNA should streamline their product by (1) dumping talent that they have no prolonged use for. (2) bringing in the talent that are free agents which are marketable. (3) switching from 12 monthly PPVs to 6 bi-monthly PPVs (4) Make iMPACT a 2 hour show (5) Avoid prime time nights (where I live these are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and possibly Wednesdays). (6) Dont go up against RAW. If anything go up against SD! I skip through SD! but I watch nearly all of RAW for the simple reason that it is RAW. (7) Postpone introducing a 4th title until iMPACT is a 2 hour show. (8) Make each match longer. (9) Bring in reputable NWA legends for the Championship Commitee (Ole Anderson, Greg Valentine, Harely Race, Jack Brisco, Terry Funk, . . .). Whoever, but not more than 5. Im saying this as an outsider cause I dont live in the US.
  10. Ive got some: (1) Why doesnt ever wrestler go for their finisher from the bell if its that deadly? (2) Why do the announcers act dumb and saying why did X do that when its obvious a few moments earlier what Xhad in mind? (3) Why does the ref miss parts of a match? (especially every tag match) (4) Why does a face run into the ring, get in a few punches, tosses the heel out of the ring and doesnt chase after the heel but just look all mean and nasty whilst resting on the ring ropes?
  11. Well. Abyss is guy in the middle. Apolo on right. I dont think its Hoyt the guy on the left with the facial hair and beanie. Looks more like Shamrock to me.
  12. I think so too. Man, they Fed up the WWE title just for Cena's album cover! WTF
  13. Yes they do, but who ever wins the goldrush is going to be cannon fodder for Batista. If that person would have been Jericho, he should have walked out. RRR, it wasnt meant as great insight on my part. It was more a case of me saying that hes getting better, but he still has a way to go. Actually, I pimped Benjamin when he 1st came on the scene somewhere here (god knows were) and was into the Minesota Streching Crew and the Dogg Pound. I also rave over his SD 1 night tourney match vs Hass a few years back.
  14. Nobody gets PPV were I live
  15. I thought that this would have been brought up earlier, but is that Shamrock in the beanie?

    Should Flair

Yes, I think he should. He deserves 1 last run if HHH is going to get every other run and blah Cena gets a run too. I wish that at his age, I will be in the shape that he is. He still cuts some of the best promos ever.
  17. Thanks a lot. Its as I feared. I cant get PPV
  18. Does anybody know which WWE PPVs will be shown on Sky Sports 1 and which will be shown on Sky Sports Box Office please. Its upsetting to find out 2 weeks before the event that your not going to get Survivour Series, WrestleMania and Judgement Day. Backlash, despite being above average to good till the ME (which killed the show), is no subsitute for those 3. Also, 2 RAW points: (1) Benjamin is the future IMHO. Was very impressed with his Jerricho and HBK matches. A slow build will do him well. (2) As much as I like Jerricho, Im glad he got eliminated from the Tourney. Come on, the guy who wins is fodder for Batista.
  19. I thought Jarrett couldn't make booking decisions anymore. I agree that Monty would be better than AJ because him and AJ have basically traded the title since November 2002, he really shouldn't have a say in who he drops the belt to if he's not booking. And make no mistake, he needs to drop the belt. I dont think he should be allowed in the booking, but I tend to agree that he shouldnt drop it to Styles. If the bookers tell him to drop it, he has to drop it . . . but to the best person there is to drop it to. You may describe this as time wasting but Brown (or Raven for that matter) makes more sense than Styles.
  20. WRONG. The prestige will fall greatly when Jarrett drops the belt. He's the bigest thing they've got. I agree with that 100% I'll post here for MikeSC so he doesn't have to...... Things I like about TNA..... It will be dead in mere months. thats it. -=Mike I didnt get what you mean about Jarrett. LOL re MikeSC and Nuf said to Desperate. Other things there are doing right: (1) iMPACT presentation is cool. Feels more like Sports, ableit in a US type of way. (2) Tenay (3) Tony doing backstage (4) Agree regarding finishers (5) They show that they can handle talent properly, that what makes the company so frustrating (6) X-Div of course
  21. Just some points Ive built up today: I think its good to see PPV cards booked as early as possible in full, unlike the WWE announcing matches on Heat before the PPV or people just walk out. I like their opening videos on their website. Their old school style. Tito Ortiz being involved could be awesome. The same effect Tyson had on Austin-HBK to a lesser more relative degree. I have always wanted to see Ortiz in the ring. The prestige of the title. When Jarrett drops it, it will be major. I like the way he keeps referring to the King of the Mountain. The names of their 1st 4 PPVs. Awesome titles (I still think that they should have 6 every other month pay per views for better build) The locker room atmosphere. Some of the workers they have and their ethic, ableit not utilised properly. Innovative, ableit overused, matches.
  22. I never saw him wrestle or cut a promo. I have just read his profile, looked at his pictures at the TNA website and read this post. I still feel sad about this. He seemed to be really enjoying his life. He was given another chance, its nice to grasp that, that its never too late. At least he had the time and chance to redeem himself, unlike Jerry Tuite (another wrestler who had potential but never had a long deserved extended run at the top). Batista is older than him and has just won the World Heavyweight title. I hope that RAW and TNA did a good job of it. Poor Tammy, I hope that she will be ok. Poor Siaki, god knows what he feels right now. I would like to think that he will mourn and honour Chris by trying to be the best wrestler he can. Poor Naturals, it seems like there was a good fit. Ive just found out about his No Gimmicks Necessary. I 100% agree with that line of thought. My condolences to Tammy, his family and friends.
  23. The person who I was impressed with given his age was Marty Jannety
  24. I think youve picked on something there. I dont see why TNA can build up Jarrett as really being strong on his own by winning cleaning over AJ, Abyss, Monty and Daniels. Abyss would be logical after AJ, since he lost to AJ for the Number 1 Contendership. Monty would then call in the favour. By then Daniels would have dropped the X-Division and say hes moving up a gear. Over this time Matt will team up with Jeff and later turn on Jeff. By this run of events were in August. At that PPV Raven BEATS Jarrett and Hardy BEATS Killings (who is claiming that he is the only non-WWE star who actually held the TNA title) in a Number 1 Contendership Match. This means that Ravens 1st opponent is revitalised Matt Hardy, whom, for those who have seen Ravens shoot interview, will know that Raven had a great story for working with Matt and always wanted to do an extended programme with him. Btw, whats happened to Mark Henry 8-)
