  1. Yeah, this whole thing appears to be another big "Universe-Shattering" storyline where the US gov is deciding that heroes need to 'register' their identities and then heroes start picking sides, families torn appart, teams divided, blah blah blah. It promises to be very political and make you think about your government's role in your life and other such "thought provoking" business. Now I'm definately not against writing comics that have a real applicable message, but it just seems that Marvel's already examining the whole "Government effect on super heroes" in The Ultimates and Squadron Supreme and doesn't need another giant crossover event to explore this theme. Plus in the interviews I've read with the Marvel guys (Quesada, Bendis, etc), they keep going on about this "super hero registration" idea as if it's such a grand original idea. I don't know if you guys have read it, but there was a little story a couple decades back that dealt with that and its ramifications. It was called FUCKING WATCHMEN!
  2. I just finally watched that episode an I can't.... I mean.... my god.
  3. "Wasting Time" - Kid Rock
  4. Yeah, I hear great things about Death: The High Cost of Living but it's a Sandman spin-off so I'm going to wait untill I read Sandman (if I ever finally get started).
  5. No, he's B.J. Novak. He's one of the writers for The Office as well, I think he wrote Diversity Day.
  6. I think he was on punk'd as one of the punkers.
  7. Yup, and unlike most shows, it keeps getting better and more relevant with age.
  8. So IGN has a new '25 Best Vertigo Books' countdown up (link here). Here's the list, but you should check out the link, since they've got informative writeups on each of the titles. It's a mix of ongoing series, graphic novels, and miniseries. And remember, no Watchmen was not Vertigo. #25 Black Orchid #24 Animal Man #23 Terminal City #22 Human Target #21 Sandman Mystery Theatre #20 100 Bullets #19 Heavy Liquid #18 The Compleat Moonshadow #17 Why I Hate Saturn #16 It's A Bird #14 The Books of Magic #13 WE3 #12 Hellblazer #11 Death: The High Cost of Living #10 V for Vendetta #9 The Fountain #8 100% #7 The Invisibles #6 Y: The Last Man #5 Transmetropolitan #4 Fables #3 Preacher #2 Swamp Thing #1 Sandman So I've barely read anything on that list. Just Swamp Thing, V for Vendetta, and some Hellblazer. So who's read stuff on that list and what would you reccomend? There's a lot of really critically acclaimed suff on there. I know I need to read Sandman but I'm waiting till I have the time and drive to read the 10 volume set.
  9. My predictions: It comes down to Batman vs. Wolverine Superman vs Magneto in the semis, though there's a slight chance Hulk gets more votes than Superman and I could see either E2-Superman or Superboy Prime potentially taking Magneto's spot. And Batman takes the win, obviously.
  10. Word on the street is that the new Aquaman is supposed to be pretty great, and with Busiek writing I suppose that's almost a given (though I really didn't like his latest JLA run). Apparently the buying public agrees since it sold out. Anyone picked it up? I havn't been to the store in a while, but next time I go I'm going to see if I can try and find Superman, Aquaman, and Detective Comics.
  11. I liked Ryan's reaction in the parking lot after. Also his reaction when Kelly starts cuddling up to him in the conference room. And Creed offereing to show his 4 toes was classic. As was Michael not having any clue as to what his job is. And Toby: "We'll you'd need a wife for that. Or a girlfriend.... Not Jan." This series has been seriously stepping it up since the christmas break, it almost makes up for the loss of Arrested Development. Has anyone seen Dwight's Myspace? It's legit, I found it off the NBC site.
  12. God DAMN I love Matt and Trey. The fact that they actually released that as an OFFICIAL press release to the trade magazines is just awesome.
  13. So apparently it IS going to be a worldwide release in november. Boy, hey'd better know what they're doing. And this bit of news (from Gamespot and everywhere else) is kind of disconcerting. This 'whole' not a game system, but a giant 'synergy' system could bite them on the ass big time.
  14. This explains it pretty well.
  15. Ok come on, he's obviously joking with that one. Still a nerdligner though.
  16. Speaking of which, when's that going to come out? It was scheduled for last november, but got bumped to, what, Q1 or Q2 of 2006? Is that still on? No matter, since the Revolution will play Gamecube games it can kind of be a 'last gasp' for the 'cube as well as a launch title for the REvolution. Looks awesome.
  17. DRM, DRM, DRM. Sony is fucking hanging themselves over the rabid paranoia in the movie/music industry with their crazy copy-protection schemes. Everyone remember the CD rootkit fiasco from a few months ago? The problem here is that the various content divisions (movie and music) inside Sony have WAY too much say in how the Blu-ray DVD format should be implemented. And since the Playstation department is the only part of Sony that isn't losing money, all the other divisions are insistant on getting their hands in it. So now the PS3 has to be some ultimate super Media Center, which is just bloating the thing and inflating the price. I swear it's like this company has no clue anymore. They used to dominate the portable music player business until downloadable music came along, and then their fanaticism about proprietary media formats (ATRAC3 anyone?) won out, and now Apple has a monopoly there and Sony is all but irrelevent. /rant Oh and Nov 2006 is the JAPAN release date, you won't see it in NA this Christmas.
  18. Ugh, Stevie Wonder night? I hate American Idol contestants singing Stevie Wonder. They always pick his syrupy ballads and butcher them to the point where they all sound exactly the same. If people break out stuff like "Living for the City," "Higher Ground," or "Signed Sealed Delivered" then it could be ok. I can actually see Ace pulling off "Signed Sealed Delivered" pretty well. At Live8 they had the lead singer of Maroon 5 (a band which I absolutely despise) singing it with Stevie, and he absolutely nailed it. And Ace can sing kind of like that.
  19. Dear GOD that was an awesome episode. I'm so looking forward to the third season. Yeah, I loved the way they showed that the fleet had gotten complacent by showing Lee looking out of shape and all the little touches like that. Boy does this show have balls, being willing to shake up the status quo the way they did. Fuck, this show doesn't even HAVE a status quo, that's what makes it so great.
  20. Uh, no they wouldn't. The registry would be rewritten, necessitating the reinstallation of most of the software on the machine, but all the files on the hard drive would still be there. Reformating the hard drive will destroy everything. Reinstalling Windows is not the same as reformatting the disk.

    House

That is excellent news. Yea I just read that yesterday, we shouldn't be surprised cuz House rules. Actually the article also said it had is highest ever rating and the biggest hold of the lead in audience from Idol this past week I think. Yeah supposedly House has been holding the gigantic American Idol audience really well while Bones has been losing them a bit more than desirable and The OC has just been fuckin hemoraging them.
  22. You took that seriously?! You're kidding right?
  23. And I've heard bad things about Superboy. But it's been in limbo for so long it's hard to tell. I think they're releasing some insane like 14 disc set of all the movies (Superman 1 - Returns) that's going to have some awesome stuf on it. I also read that Bryan Singer has been executive producing a documentary on the history of the character that will come out this year. The part of all this that excites me the most (besides Superman Returns) is the Richard Donner version of Superman 2.
  24. Why did I immedately think of that episode of the new Battlestar Galactica where they're running out of water and need to find a planet or moon to harvest? Anyways, this is some pretty interesting news.
  25. What the fuck is with the judges putting up with the little glasses dude? He was absoutely terrible, he has the charisma of a rock (and not a nice shiny rock, more like granite or something), and his voice warbles and cracks. And he has a fucking lisp when he sings! I mean, for a geeky high school kid he's a pretty good singer, but he just looks and sounds sooooo out of place up there, and yet the judges (even Simon) babied him.
