Give it another 30 years or so and...um...Scott Keith will still be bitter.

Well, just a tip about being considerate to others: WWE doesn't do it for their fans. I think I'm more fan-friendly than a former Fortune 500 company.

Just when Kurt finally looks good by making Hogan tap, they have some nobody go toe to toe with him and Kurt wins with a BACKSLIDE?? Actually, Cena lost to a three quarter nelson or some other amateur style roll up. Didn't you spend like 4 pages of a thread bitching about a match ending on a roll up after that?

Well, I did want to use the play-by-play format CRZ used for those people who didn't get to see the show. I was without cable for a few months during Russo's first WCW run, so it was nice to get more than a barebones review of the show. But knowing that people who saw the show don't want to read all that, I came up with the commercial break format. That way everybody can just come to me, whether they want the whole shebang or not. So there you go.

Well, someone had to take over after he retired. But it's actually coincidence more than anything else.

His heel turn was basically a vignette where he said he supported Iraq and that Nikolai Volkoff was not to be trusted. Sadly, the second half of that would have gotten face heat from anybody who actually followed WWF the five years previously.

That's what happens when you live in Cleveland It doesn't even have to be a Cleveland game. If I ever root for the Yankees to win a World Series, that'll be the year they get swept and lose every game 45-0. How in good conscience can an Indians fan (I presume) root for the Yankees? I can't. That's why the words "If I ever" are included in that statement.

Honestly, there's no real rhyme or reason for it. You'll notice that most of them are somewhat based in "reality". "King Brock I" -- Brock was the last King of the Ring winner. "The Too Damn Big Show" -- he's too damn big. "Ape Train" -- well, I stole that off a sign at one of the PPVs (No Mercy I think). I was actually worse with the nicknames when I was doing Raw full-time as I hated about half the roster and didn't think they deserved to get a real mention.

Cawthon can give exact dates, but we're talking 1980 at Shea Stadium for sure. Anything more recent than that I have no clue. And it could still be considered his WWE debut if you want to get technical about it.

That's certainly a better proposal than the rumored "I just want Hunter's title more" scenario we all went on and on about last night.

He tried. That was why he turned down Owen's challenge in the first place, which set up Harts-Quebecers at Royal Rumble 94. I don't remember Bret ever actually changing his mind though (the WMX match was ordered with the post-Rumble coin toss).

McMahon tells wrestlers not to speak to the 'net
JHawk replied to Celtic Jobber's topic in The WWE Folder
So Vince doesn't want things leaked out because it "ruins the illusion"? Um, Vince...telling athletic commissions that it's entertainment instead if a sport in order to avoid paying taxes pretty much took care of that. In all honesty, I'd rather things didn't get leaked out, as I'd be less pissed when they actually go through with some of this stupid shit. -
What everybody seems to be forgetting when they talk about how great a game this is going to be is that when there are two weeks between the conference championships and the Super Bowl, the game almost always sucks ass. The Patriots win a blowout because I went into the playoffs saying "As long as the Patriots don't win, then I'm happy." Heaven forbid I ever root for a winner under any circumstances.

So does anybody who actually saw the show (besides Corey) have an opinion? Since some of us actually consider opinions of people who watch the show when considering purchasing a replay (or next week's show).

For some reason, I have no idea why, WWE loves to recognize Benoit's WCW title win. According to WCW, "it never happened" and even Benoit himself doesn't recognize his own world title win. And that reason? "If we claim Benoit's already been a World Champion, then we never have to allow him to win our title."
-
And in fairness to that, the kayfabe reason was that he won a tournament, so they at least tried to make the fans feel it was legitimate rather than trying to force legitimacy for it. I'd certainly buy that easier than "You're the top contender but the champ won't wrestle you". Which, by the way, is also how the AWA World Title was started...and look how that ended up.

Yes, but you were pissed when Can't Hardly Wait didn't get a Best Picture nomination. I told you about that? Dames About 30 seconds after telling me that I just had to hunt down a copy of Trojan War on DVD.

The only movie that absolutely had to have a sequel was Back to the Future, and only because they flat out said "To Be Continued" at the end of the first one.
-
Bingo. So the next time we hear that they won't put pro wrestling back on ESPN because it's not a real sport, we can use that, right?

Here's the main reason that I see this as a bad idea, and it has nothing to do with Triple H being likely to bury Benoit. It has everything to do with the way Benoit's title win (should it happen) will be perceived. Because should it happen, yes, Benoit would be a "world" champion. But the belt that has the lineage is the SmackDown title. The SmackDown title is the one that's been held by Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Rock, among others. The Raw Title has been held by Triple H and whoever he feels like loaning it to when he doesn't want to set off metal detectors. Someone with Chris Benoit's talent deserves to have his name written alongside some of the true legends in professional wrestling's history. Most of the men who have held the current SmackDown title (with a couple of exceptions) have at some point been considered legendary. They're the ones who main evented many a show at Madison Square Garden, often in front of sold out crowds. They're the ones that people cheered for, booed, and put their souls on the line for when wrestling was considered "real" by many. The Raw Title simply doesn't have the history behind it to main event the biggest WrestleMania of them all. That, my friends, is why if Chris Benoit wins the Royal Rumble, he must wrestle for the SmackDown Title in the main event of WrestleMania XX. It just won't feel right if the Raw Title gets that spot.

Anybody else notice that not one network said "If we actually put on good shows, people might watch us"? Is there even a good show on network TV anymore?

I had that figured out when Ted DiBiase's "bodyguard" was black and One Man Gang became "African".

And gay. Can't forget gay. Actually, that would increase her chances of getting her advice listened to. See Patterson, Pat.
