Hank Kingsley Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 "Blood Ties" just aired on FX, and that was my first taste of Season 5 until the DVDs come out. Good episode, Dawn is kind of...ugh.
BlackFlagg Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 yeah, that is a great scene. And Anya rules: "Willows a Deamon?" " I clocked field time!" heh, Xander rules
Mole Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 "Blood Ties" just aired on FX, and that was my first taste of Season 5 until the DVDs come out. Good episode, Dawn is kind of...ugh. This is my first taste at all of season 5; pretty good so far. Â Ugh, WHY do you have Riley in your sig??
The Ghost of bps21 Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 Riley gets an unfair shake. Â You have to look at him less as the guy who replaced Angel as Buffy's love interest... Â and more of a study in a good guy trying to live in Buffy's world. Â Where he starts and where he ends up as a result is one of the more interesting things they've done on Buffy.
LaParkaYourCar Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 My hate has nothing to do with him replacing Angel as Buffy's boyfriend because I never got attatched to the Angel/Buffy relationship since it was obvious it was doomed. Â My hate for Riley is because his character was annoying and Marc Blucas isn't that great of an actor.
Youth N Asia Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Marc is a less then a "good" actor. But it's not like Buffy is classic art. I'm 50/50 on Riley, he was bland, but not as bad as everyone says
The Ghost of bps21 Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 He was supposed to be bland. Â Bland and Big. Â Bland so he could be the most borish ordinary lame guy in the world (something that was absolutely NEEDED in between relationships with Spike and Angel) Â and Big so he could appear physically capable of his role in the initiative. Â Season 5 Riley's slow fall into madness was played very well IMO by Blucas.
LaParkaYourCar Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I hate to keep bringing it up, but I guess we're just forgetting the articles idea?? It just doesn't seem like it's gonna happen.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I still have #1,2 and 3... Â but as it stands Ripper wanted to re-do #1... Â and I don't think anyone is doing season 4.
Mole Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 He was supposed to be bland. Bland and Big.  Bland so he could be the most borish ordinary lame guy in the world (something that was absolutely NEEDED in between relationships with Spike and Angel)  and Big so he could appear physically capable of his role in the initiative.  Season 5 Riley's slow fall into madness was played very well IMO by Blucas. Maybe he was supposed to be bland, but he didn't do anything for me.  Like Youth said, his acting was horrible, which made matters worse.
Max Danger Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Why not just go ahead and post the damn articles? I mean, it's not like they HAVE to be in order. I say, just throw 'em up. Can't hurt.
Max Danger Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Oh, and I don't mind Marc Blucas at all. He was competent enough in his role, and it worked for me. So... shrug.
Mole Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Why not just go ahead and post the damn articles? I mean, it's not like they HAVE to be in order. I say, just throw 'em up. Can't hurt. I disagree, I believe they should be in order. Â This is my 700th post in this thread, wow, that's pretty lame.
Ravenbomb Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 this is my 24th, and I agree that they should be in order

This is my 463rd post in this thread and I'm still the 3rd highest poster in the Buffy thread behind Mole and YNA.
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I'm a big fan of checkpoint, it's just an all-round fun episode and then it ends with... "She's not a demon... she's a god" - gotta love Season 5 cliffhangers (oooh, another common theme for me to write about in the Season 5 review.... which will be done... sometime... before I die.) Â RRR: 6 posts away from entering the Top 5.... watch your back BPS, cause I won't be for long!!
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Oh, and that eps. established Buffy's reluctance to kill and how that would come back to haunt her with the knights... the theme was revisited in "The Gift" where she refused to kill Ben - so Giles had to.

If I were to watch season 5 when it first aired, then I would of been like, what the fuck? But I knew that she was a GoD, so it wasn't much a surprise. Â EDIT: In the Angel thread, I kill you all with 41 posts,
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I still love hearing it. "God" is so, 'big', ya know? The master was a vampire, Angelus was a vampire, there were various mummies and wolfmen, the Mayor was a giant snake, there was Frankenadam and his Universal Soldiers... Glory was a God... Plus she was insane - which is a cool undertone. Â The season is young Mole, the season is young. I'm pacing myself, you'll burn out by Xmas break...
Hank Kingsley Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Actually, I have this picture, more than anything, because I love the camera angle of it. Â Plus, it's from "The Yoko Factor", where Angel's all "You actually SLEEP with this guy?!"

Yeah but then in season 7 we get the First, which is even bigger than a GoD.
Cavi Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I didn't really have a problem with Riley (or Blucas). I thought his exit from the series in "Into The Woods" was quite well done.  And on another subject, I just got the new soundtrack. The coverart is fairly cool. Just a subdued shot of the graveyard with a statue in the foreground. On the back, there is a Season Seven shot of Buffy, one of Caleb, and one of a stupid Bringer (WTF is that doing there!?).  The tracklisting is a bit different than what was originally listed. Michelle Branch is out, which is weaksauce as I wanted that version of "Goodbye To You", but Sarah McLachlan takes her place~! The Joss Whedon written Angie Hart track from "Conversions With Dead People" also makes an appearance.  Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Radio Sunnydale: Music From The TV Series  Original Track Listing:  1. Buffy Main Title Theme - The Breeders 2. Goodbye to You (Bronze Mix) - Michelle Branch 3. Bohemian Like You - Dandy Warhols 4. There's No Other Way - Blur 5. Can't Take My Eyes Off You - Melanie Doane 6. Sound of the Revolution - Lunatic Calm 7. Out of This World - Bush 8. Pavlov's Bell - Aimee Mann 9. Stop Thinking About It - Joey Ramone 10. Key - Devics 11. Ballad for Dead Friends - Dashboard Prophets 12. Original Score - Rob Duncan  Final Track Listing:  1. Buffy Main Title Theme - The Breeders 2. Stop Thinking About It - Joey Ramone 3. Bohemian Like You - Dandy Warhols 4. Everbody Got Their Something - Nikka Costa 5. Key - Devics 6. Sound of the Revolution - Lunatic Calm 7. Ballad for Dead Friends - Dashboard Prophets 8. Blue - Angie Hart 9. Pavlov's Bell - Aimee Mann 10. There's No Other Way - Blur 11. Prayer of Saint Francis - Sarah McLachlan 12. The Final Fight (Original Score) - Rob Duncan
Mecha Mummy Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I don't mind Riley because he delivered one of my favorite lines in the series... Â "The secret to world domination? Coffee makers that think."
Mole Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Is that Sarah song the one from "Becoming Pt 2" when Buffy leaves Sunnydale?
Cavi Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 "Full of Grace" is the one from that episode. The song on the soundtrack is from "Grave."
Ripper Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 "Ballad for Dead Friends - Dashboard Prophets" Â This song kicks AYASS. Its the one that was playing when Darla and the vamps were approaching the Bronze in the Harvest. Â And I hated Riley in season 4, I liked the character in season 5. They gave him real depth. he was just Initiative guy in season 4. Â I don't think there is anything that I don't like about season 5 except the guy that played Ben.
Youth N Asia Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 YEah, Riley was a little easier to like in season 5. He just seemed like he knew he didn't have much time left in Sunnydale.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Taking the great version of Goodbye to You off means no buy for me!!
Mole Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Taking the great version of Goodbye to You off means no buy for me!! Which episode is that from?
