Kanyon hasn't impressed me since the Positively Kanyon gimmick. The "who betta than Kanyon" gimmick (and I use the term "gimmick" in a real loose definition of the term there) never impressed me. It didn't seem like heel heat, it seemed like borderline "who cares, get off my screen" heat. While I will grant you that the wwe majorly fucked up his return from his injury, if Kanyon was as charismatic as people here are claiming, he would have still gotten over. As an example: Hurricane - he turned chicken shit into chicken soup. So should Kanyon.

 

I hope Mortis gets over, because I have no dislike for Kanyon as a human being and I'd like to see him suceed in a profession that he obviously really loves. But moreso I'd like to see Mortis suceed because I don't like the Kanyon character at all.

Good. I liked Mortis better anyway. Too bad it won't mean shit, as it's not a McMahon brainchild. But who knows. Kanyon/Mortis is PERFECT for the US title picture. Tajiri/Mortis, Benoit/Mortis, Eddie/Mortis-all sounds good to me.

Seeing as how it was a dark match, we won't know for sure after watching Smackdown either.

I've read all of this and I have to say whoever thinks Kanyon cannot get over in anyway, is a complete tool.

 

I remember the Mortis gimmick actually being one of the reasons why I started to become more serious in watching wrestling. If you for one second think that Kanyon cannot pull off promo's as Mortis, you are strongly mistaken...Especially now after YEARS of promo experience he has obtained. Just point that man in the right direction and watch his skills shine.

 

Mortis = Over

Champagne Chris Kanyon = Over

Who's Betta Den Kanyon = Over

Kanyon a la Kanyon Cuttah = Over

Kanyon doing any sorta gimmick just give him a damn push = OVER!

 

This man went from teaming with DDP in a big Cage match against Undertaker and Kane, when the whole WCW becoming WWE happened...To falling clear off the map and fighting in dark matches, and on Velocity? That's worse then what happens when someone faces Triple H!

 

If they are going to definately go through with the Mortis gimmick...I say he should do something with The Hurricane...Or feud with Goldust(and his lil thing he's got going on)...That way it can build up nice and strong and before that's over focus on where he'll go next..Instead of going "push! push! push! uuuuuh it's over, what do we do with you now?"

 

I certainly have my worries about how he'll be used because lord knows masked wrestlers don't get much respect and I'm worried they'll beat it dead fast...But if they work on it enough and give it the time and effort it requires...It'll be good as gold!

For those who don't know, Kanyon is Mortis, an old gimmick (an awesome one too) he used in WCW that was inspired by Scorpion from Mortal Kombat since he was just there to be Glacier's rival. It was claimed that Mortis was a former kickboxer in the gimmick. He had elaborate entrance to which he came to a Phantom of the Opera-like theme. Mortis used to be managed by James Vandenberg and was partners with Wrath (Bryan Clarke a.k.a. Adam Bomb) for awhile.

 

Kanyon hasn't been Mortis since 1998 after he lost a match on Thunder (I forgot to who) to which if he won, he would join Raven's flock. Having lost, Mortis was rewarded with an Evenflow on a ramp backstage and was off TV for awhile before coming back as Kanyon to start a long angled feud with Raven that eventually became a friendship. Now, that he has returned as such, things could get interesting on SD soon...I'm guessing WWE just figured he needed a gimmick. Hopefully, this will get him over and maybe Kanyon will go back to playing mind games with people.

 

I also wonder if they're gonna bust a Mr. America with Kanyon now...

I'm just having visions of within weeks of being on Smackdown, Undertaker destroys Mortis(Kanyon) once again.

Take it from someone who doesn't give a flying f*ck about what happened to a guy in WCW. i.e. WWE mark, born and bred.

 

In my opinion, Kanyon was dead because despite all the wwe.com articles about his near-fatal experience and year-long recovery, they never re-debuted him with ANYTHING going for him.

 

I think the crux of the situation would have been when the APA were going around pre-Vengeance getting people for the barroom brawl, and seeing Bradshaw make fun of the "Who Betta" gimmick.

 

Worse still, they made Kanyon look like a freaking pussy before the APA, giving the lame "cable guy" excuse and allowing himself to be intimidated by Bradshaw.

 

If anything, to the guy who has never known anything about Kanyon except that he's practically fought his way back into the ring, a change of gimmick and a push (hopefully) is the best thing to happen to him.

 

Plus, I mark out everytime someone can make a "Wrestlecrap-worthy" gimmick get over, like Helms.

I talked with Chris last night, he said the idea was first mentioned to him at the PPV. He used a new costume, it's pretty much the same except the green parts are purple. He said their photographer took a bunch of pictures of him in the costume, he's going to try to get a copy of them for the site. A new commentary should be in the works soon too.

 

Interesting note: on the booking sheets, it listed him as Kanyon and when he went out as Mortis, a lot of the guys in the back had no idea who Mortis was. Chris was told to work more like Kane; not to sell much for the local guy he was working with. He used some kicks he doesn't usually use, plus he said he used the reverse boston crab he used to do as Mortis. He said the theme music wasn't the same, they weren't able to get ahold of it, but it is still creepy organ music. Should be interesting.

Even if it's just in dark matches or Velocity matches, or house shows for that matter, anytime that he appears in front of an audience he'd have a chance to get over. It starts off small, with pops from people in attendance, and then grows from there.

 

If you're logic is "put him on Smackdown until he's over" then you're putting the cart before the horse. It should be "when he's over, put him on Smackdown".
