Nevermortal Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Keith gave that abortion of a match ****1/4 stars. Yep, he's fucking insane.
Styles Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Keith gave that abortion of a match ****1/4 stars. Yep, he's fucking insane. Keller liked it the same too: "****1/4 -- Extra credit for it being a truly new twist on gimmick matches. Great bumps, but also some good spots inside the ring that didn't involve the apparatus. The finish was cool, too. The blood added to the visual spectacular. All three worked hard and seemed genuinely determined to win. No moping around or stalling"
SpikeFayeJettEdBebop Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Total Nonstop Action... Except when we stop to fix the belt... HAHAHAHAH Now that, my friend, was truley EXCELLENT!
Mecha Mummy Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 *Cough* I gave it *** 3/4 in my TNA recap for voiceofwrestling.com. *Runs and hides*
Nevermortal Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Its a neat concept, but c'mon, that match was just plain old bad. The belt falling made it look like a backyard promotion. You could tell during both falls, the three of them were panicking, bad. Not to mention there were many blown spots, and nearly no flow whatsoever. I'd have a hard time giving it **, nevermind ****1/4. That's like a low end match of the year candidate.
Guest dvkorn Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 (edited) The Ultimate X match wasn't for everyone but i for one really enjoyed it.... and hope they use it again at a later date, just need to get on top of the belt falling down problem... I'd probably give it ***1/2 ish but i'd have to watch it again... to be sure Overall, i thought the show was excellent.... one of the best if not the best i have seen.... I haven't seen all the shows though.... Takes a while to get tapes of the other shows.... Only see one a month live.... Actually... there was one part of the show i didn't like.... The Siaki/D'Lo segment.... more predictable than the outcome of a HHH World title match.... But this show was 100 times better than the tripe that WWE produces week in, week out.... {''({o..o})''} Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 After watching the show again I must say the show was alot better than I thought the first time I viewed it. The booking in the gauntlet was pretty good and there wasn't a lot of wasted segments. I still say that the x match did come off a little bit bad but knowing about the belt falling I was able to enjoy the work in the match quite a bit more.
Guest Boomer Sprinklespax Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 There's no way in hell the Ultimate X deserves anywhere near ****1/4. To me, any one badly blown spot takes a match out of that range...not to mention like three of them. There was some cool stuff, definitely, but it was tempered by the bad as well. Of course, the belt falling wasn't their fault, but it DID take away from my enjoyment of the match, so I've got to say that it effects the rating. The highest I'd give it is probably ***, but I'm leaning towards **1/2 right now.

That's like a low end match of the year candidate. Well, let's see. Meltzer liked it a lot. Keller liked it a lot. Keith liked it a lot (whatever that's worth). I guess everyone's just crazy then.
Fökai Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Well, let's see. Meltzer liked it a lot. Keller liked it a lot. Keith liked it a lot (whatever that's worth). I guess everyone's just crazy then. Most of the early posts are attributing the match's atrocities to the gimmick itself, and not the match buried within. I guess we'd assume that a good wrestling match within a bad gimmick match, still doesn't make up for the gimmick - ESPECIALLY considering how the belt incident exposed the match (and the gimmick) immensely.
Guest TDinDC1112 Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I think if the belt didn't fall off, the match would have been more than great. I'm not sure the fault is with the gimmick. I think it's with the brain surgeons in TNA who didn't figure out to just hang the belt from one bar instead of both. I think the gimmick has some legs - it can be their signature maybe, like WWE has with the TLC matches.

Well of course then, my opinion means shit because I'm not a Meltzer, a Keller, or a Keith. Good call. But the match still sucked.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 Your opinion means as much as anyones... It just happens to be very much placed in the minority... so acting like a baby when most people diagree with you is what makes it not matter to anyone
