Cran Da Maniac Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 New releases come out on Tuesday? Anybody have any idea behind this phenomenon (sp?).
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Just a standard thing. It's easier for people when you can go "oh hey it's Tuesday, let's head over to BestBuy and see what came out." It's the same deal with movies and comic books.
Guest El Satanico Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 It's the day they decided to do it on. What else besides DVDs are released on Tuesday?
the max Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Usually CD's and videogames and magazines.
Ripper Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 I'm still trying to figure out why department stores have One Day sales on Wednesdays. Who the fuck gets paid in the middle of the week, let alone wants to go to the mall on that day. Am I the only one that thinks that they would make a lot more money if they did shit on Fridays.
Brush with Greatness Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 I think it may have something to do with that whole "cheap Tuesdays" phenomenon ruling North America for awhile. I never understood the reasoning for cheap Tuesdays (and cheap Tuesday deals are still in effect at alot of places; restaurants, etc.) Theatres used to have cheap Tuesdays where the price of a movie was cheaper than any other day of the week (same as a matinee price usually). Anyways, due to the theatre cheap Tuesdays, I figure video stores used to release movies on Tuesday's to sway people's entertainment dollar their way. Music and DVD's just followed suit. That's my theory anyways.
Karnage Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Video stores always have 2 for 1 Tuesdays or something similar to that.

I was going to say that exact thing...but you already did.....So ill just say that I agree with you, and it totally baffles me why they do that too.......But I guess it is because Movies usually open Wed. Fri and on occasion Thursday, so they want Electronics to have there own day.....
kkktookmybabyaway Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Hmmm, maybe perhaps to get all the freaks that follow a specific movie/band/video game out of the way during the workweek so they don't scare off the normal customers come the weekend...
SpikeFayeJettEdBebop Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 HAHAHA,Yeah, but most of those freaks can't go on the weekdays, so they go on the weekend....plus, the majority of people buying things...are big supporters of the products they buy.....
Dr. Tom Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Actually, I think it's because the products ship over the weekends and can be guaranteed to be on the shelves by Tuesday.
OldSchoolWrestling Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Plus businesses want to spread their business. Everyone and their mother shops on weekends so you want to get people to shop your store on other days. Restaurants do it a lot too with their midweek specials. They already know they are going to make bank and be busy on the weekend, so they target the slow days to get business coming in all week if possible.
razazteca Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 My FYE is behind the times and gets some new releases late, so they can over charge DVDs at $24.95 and CDs at $17.99.
Mole Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 My FYE is behind the times and gets some new releases late, so they can over charge DVDs at $24.95 and CDs at $17.99. My FYE does the same thing, and it is the only store around my area that sells DVDs and such, other than Wal Mart.
