Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 29, 2003 I have another question: Since when did Metallica create Heavy Metal? That's something one of the Stinkin Fart jackasses said. They didn't create it but I could see arguement that Tallica mainstreamed it.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 29, 2003 It was also pretty funny when the 40-something-year-old white guy interviewing him said "I hear you have the best flow in the business. What exactly is flow?" Just an interesting little anecdote... Imaging Andy Rooney asking that makes it much funnier.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Well I just won't understand the rap attraction...nothing about this music attracts me. Hey if you like it have fun but I don't and it pisses me off that the only place I can get good rock is by buying the CD. I can't turn on the TV and catch a song or turn on the radio and catch a song. I can catch all the Rap, Pop, and R&B I want...but I can catch just a little bit of Rock. It's pretty annoying. You should see where I'm coming from here.....now where's my Master of Puppets CD?.......
Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Hey Mighty, I see where your coming from. MTV has sucked for a long time. They only cator to one or two types of music, and they don't even show any videos. On the otherhand, I have advice for you. If you want to turn on the tv, and see wide varities of music, just watch MTV 2. Chris Rock was great as usual last night. Forget Johnny Cash for a second, I'm mad that 2Pac lost. He was only up for one category, he's never won a f'ing VMA, and it's his 7 year anniversary....but noooo....50 cent wins it for the most played out song in rap history. I love rap, but I can't stand 50...or Missy for that matter.

Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 The most disturbing thing of the VMA's: Me and my dad actually conversated about the Madonna/Britney kiss. It was one of the most awkward moments in my life.
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 The strangest thing is when you're in public and your dad starts checking out girls. "Wow, look at the tits on that one." "Sweet Jesus, Dad, don't say things like that." In other news, that kiss was overrated.

"Sweet Jesus, Dad, don't say things like that." In other news, that kiss was overrated. Good thing that's never happened. The kiss was overrated in terms of actual kissing (I'd give it **1/4, it was uninspired), but it was more about who was doing the kissing rather than the actual kiss. Yes, I just gave a star rating to a lesbian kiss. What?

Perfxion 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 People need to remember one thing: It is the VIDEO that wins it. Not the song, Cry Me A River and Work It are great videos. Work it is an ok song to me but the video rocks. Busta and LP both do great videos. That is what wins it. LP winning best rock video works because it was one of the best rock videos I seen upwith "She Fucking Hates Me". Missy is talented, she is one of the best writers in music right now. Alot of major hits people have been written by Missy. Saying she sucks is just wrong and dumb. Johnny Cash had a great song. So did Missy, Johnny Cash had a great video. But Missy's was real good with the old school look. Bottomline, it is the video that matters. And for MTV to play that Cash video like 6 times. How do you expect it to win over other videos that TRL had to retire? Add to it, they needed a video package for most fans to even know who the fuck Cash is? As for rap sucking or not. Most times than not, most who speak on rap in this folder and retards who say some of the dumbest shit. I seen people saying they are glad JMJ died. I seen people compare 50 Cent to Jill Scott and saying they are the same. I seen people say other fucking retarded things. It is pointless even speak on the subject on in this folder because people just don't know what the fuck they are talking about. If you think Rock has 50 different sub genres under its title. Why can't rap have atleast 5 different styles? If you think every rap song is about "bling bling" or "bitches" then you are not only wrong, but you are a fucking moron. And not all the good rappers are dead. A few of them moved on to Hollywood or Church. BTW: Line of the night "50 got shot nine times, 50 got shot nine times, 50 got shot more times in the face than Jenna Jameson"

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Because they may make a good video? I dunno... Perfxion 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2003 If you have the intetnet, nothing should be a problem. Download what you need. Buy what you love. Use these shows to gage what it popular and what is good. Like all those top blah blah blah countdowns at the end of the year. It sparks debate and most times, the right people win it. Red Baron 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2003 being black and saying repetitive lyrics that you didn't even write = talent But not knowing anything about what you are talking about and making generalizations on single=being stupid. isn't that what you are doin? Red Baron 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2003 As a "Rock" fan, I prefer "Rock" over "Rap". Both of these "genre's" has their good, the bad, and the ugly, and we know what some of the ugly is. Sometimes the ugly is so bad its good. I've always found 50 cent stuff just bland, uninspiring, meaningless rap. I've found that Metallica has released tons of junk as well, ie St. Anger and Re-Load. Some may think Missy is over-rated, but many think as her as a genius. Many think Jimmy Page is one of the best guitarists, but technically, he is not. I respect rap music, and actually being some great talent in the "genre" such as RUN DMC, Public Enemy, Dr. Dre, 2Pac, NWA, M.C. Hammer (just kiddin). Missy's video was good, but I don't think it actually holds up to Cash's video if its was voted by the "best video". I don't think MTV knows what emotion, or history, or actual depth of a song really means, but Cash's video shows that very well in his video, thus should have won it. Though I don't really cared much for the song itself. I think more people are just pissed that Missy didn't acknowledge Cash.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 30, 2003 Because they didn't really make any great videos this year... Foo is nomed all most every year... One nomination that annoyed me was Aalyiah's video.
HellSpawn 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2003 One question... Looking at Aalyiah or past nominations in others awards, and also at that RS 100 guitar players lists... You think Cash could have win if he dies before the event, lets say, two weeks ago?

I doubt it, but it would be funny if Dave came out and said he was feed up MTV and was above them. I dare any "mainstream" band, artist, person, etc, to come out and bash MTV and refuse to do anything for the company. And I don't mean Pearl Jam and Nirvana years ago when they would say they were anti-corporate but there they were making videos, doing interviews with MTV, doing spreads in RollingStone magazine or performing on Saturday Night Live. Some of these PopPunk bands are trying to be "rebels" and anti-whatever but there is Good Charlotte hosting TRL once a week.

Well you have the ones like Rancid and Anti-Flag who actually aren't on MTV. They do make videos however...and then they release them on a tape. Has anybody heard that NOFX song about playing this song on the radio? It's funny...
