When did you start disliking HHH?

Recommended Posts

I've actually hated HHH since late 1999 because it seemed like every week he always got the upperhand over Foley and Foley NEVER got his revenge on HHH at either the Royal Rumble or No Way Out for that matter. I knew HHH had to have been playing politics at that time, however, I still praised his wrestling ability around that time up until 2002 after his first match back.

He looked too big, moved around REALLY slow, and used a pointless moveset with choking, a spinebuster, punching, kick, and the Pedigree. After he won the Royal Rumble when it was obviously too late for him to be at 100% for the Wrestlemania main-event, I began to hate him even more, and felt that Angle would have been a better challenger for Jericho's Undisputed title. After noticing HHH and Steph getting the attention put on themselves while Jericho was playing second fiddle, and then Jericho losing the title to HHH at Wrestlemania, that's when I REALLY began to hate HHH, and have ever since.

I started to hate him when his title reign turned into a living hell with some of the shittiest matches he has ever been involved in.

It made me think 'this guy isnt HALF as good as he used to be'

I thought his match at Judgement Day 2002 was OK and it still wasn't amazingly clear to me that Triple H had gone downhill in an amazing way. His match with Undertaker the month after was as poor a match as I had seen Triple H in and made me think about it a little more.

Don't hate HHH but I seriously got annoyed with him(or whoever called this) when it looked like Benoit was being progammed with Austin for a feud right after the car incident where HHH got dropped on his head. However, the WWE despite teasing the Benoit/Austin feud wouldn't announce it. At the time the WWE would typically announce the PPV matches at a certain time before the PPV. This time they waited a lot closer to the PPV to announce some matches and when they did suddenly HHH had the match with Austin while Benoit got demoted to the mid card with an obviously sudden Billy Gun feud. Benoit would than be stuck in the midcard for quite a while.

One other thing I'd like to mention here(Yes, some HHH defending)-Everyone talks about how HHH "sucked" after he returned from the rumble. I believe it was more of a problem of HHH being a much better wrestler as a heel than a face. HIs moveset in the WWE style just doesn't equal face material as his wrestling manuevers are better suited for a heel. I also think he's more comfortable when calling a match. Look at his teased face run back in 2000. The only great match I remember him having was against Benoit at No Mercy. Now back as a heel once again he's managed to pull out some good stuff against wrestlers that can go such as Booker T and Flair. When against someone of good caliber HHH can still deliver because let's face it - HHH's list of opponents rescently hasn't been the best ever.

I thought that his match at Wrestlemania XIX with Booker T. was good.

Then again, I don't hate Triple H really. He still entertains me, and that's all I can ask for. I like that majority of his moveset and I still mark for his finisher. People say that he is boring on the mic, which I admit I can't argue, however I never change the channel when he is talking. That is probably due to the fact that I never change the channel, but him being a main eventer means that he might say something important too.

I have no real ill will towards the man. I think he's lucky. Actually, I somewhat envy the man.

If Jericho wasn't around, I wouldn't hate the guy. But the fact that The Rock jobbed to Y2J in all three of their PPV matches (NM 2001, Ven 2001, RR 2002) and Triple H didn't job in all three of their PPV matches (Fully 2000, WM 18, JD '02) makes me absolutely sick to my stomach.

I don't care enough to actually hate the guy, but uh... since the beginning of '99. I got tired of him in January, though now I can't remember why. Overkill, I guess.

I'd obviously disliked him beforehand (eg '95) but I starting hating him for Smark reasons when it became pretty obvious where he stood, around 2001 maybe.

I've actually hated him since about December 00/January 01. That's when the political bullshit came to the forefront. They were setting up a Jericho/Angle match for the Rumble then out of nowhere Vince comes out on SD! and says "Well HHH gets a title match at the Rumble" with absolutely no explanation. Jericho is suddenly in an IC title match with Benoit and Angle is wrestling HHH. That's when I started hating him.

I remember telling my non-smark friend at the time that HHH had torn his quad...

"HHH is going to be out for a year?"

"Yep..."

"Good...."

I never really liked HHH to begin with. But, my HHHatered officially began when it was revealed that he was dating Stephanie McMahon. The bosses daughter. The leader of the writing team. The 25% co-owner of the WWF/E. He started getting so powerful. When I found out about HHH & Steph, I immediately knew that the company's future was looking pretty bleak. As a matter of fact, I knew that the company was in danger of having no future, at all. I don't care what you guys think. IMO, there is absolutely no reason, whatsoever for an employee to date his own employer, especially when that employee is a wrestler working for a wrestling promotion, and that employer is the owner of that promotion. Not to mention the promotion has more politics backstage than in Washington, DC. There is no logical reason for HHH to be in the position that he is in, now.

My hatred of Triple H goes all the way back to DX v.2 when he was the leader of DX with HBK out of wrestling for the moment. I never thought DX was the same after HBK left and it started me slowly down the path of HHHate.

It worsened when his GOD feud started with Foley.

During that era, I respected his ability to play a hated heel, but I never once cared for his workrate at all. The matches with Foley were great, but if you dissect the matches, by thirds, you would see that the 2/3 of the match that was actually great, was Foley being beaten up by chairshots and weapons, along with Foleys signature big bump, so I could never understand the credit Triple H got for those matches. Once Foley put him over FOREVER like that, Triple H was officially GOD to the marks, and my hatred was full-fledged while most of my peers were merely annoyed with him.

We come to present day and there are about 100 more reasons to hate him now, but many of those reasons tie into Vince being an idiot, and Steph being infatuated with a beefcake. So I take notice that I really did dislike HHH for reasons other than situations where Vince/Steph were helping his masterplan churn along.

Gotta add April 2, 2000 also. It was the Rock's night damn it!

I agree with you there, dude. Wrestlemania 16 (2000) was supposed to go to The Rock. But, HHH's victory there is what started to get me suspicious. It also started me on the slow path to HHHate. HHH doesn't care what's good for the business. He only cares about what's good for himself, and himself only.

Outside of a VERY brief period in 2000, and possibly in the early stages of DX, I've never really liked HHH for various reasons.

Prior to DX, it was more of a "this guy's heel, I don't like him" kinda thing. Once DX started, I began to dislike him because he kept interfering in Shawn's matches and ended up getting him DQ'd. That dislike grew stronger when he kicked HBK out of DX...and stronger when I found out he was dating Chyna. And STRONGER once the push from hell set in, and they put him in that horrible feud with Vince McMahon in the latter part of 99 (not only was it boring as hell, but it stole a lot of TV time from more entertaining programs). Then came the McMahon/Helsmley "Fact-gime", the single WORST stable in the history of professional wrestling. Then came HHH going over Tazz and, in essence, ECW in Philly. KOTR 2000, where Vince McMahon was pinned in order to take the belt off of him. I started liking him as the love triangle with Angle went on, but they fucked up the blowoff completely, and I ended up hating him again. Then came him being revealed as the mastermind behind Austin's hit and run. Then came the death no-sell at Survivor Series, where he blatantly defied logic because he was afriad of losing his spot if he went off on the injured list. I was fairly indifferent to him in 2001, although I *HATED* how he always seemed to get the better of Taker leading into WMX-7 (although that was good booking in retrospect, because I was VERY hyped to see the match between those two). I liked the 2 man power trip, although I hated how Austin was made to look weak while HHH was made to look strong week after week.

I also hate his post return stuff, and that's pretty much self-explanitory.

I don't, and never have, HATED the guy. I first disliked him the moment he won the Royal Rumble 2002 however. I was totally against his going to WrestleMania to defear Jericho.

I don't know if I've EVER wanted someone to eliminate someone else, like I wanted Angle to eliminate HHH that night.

I'd also like to state that I never have really allowed his backstage antics to get in the way of my liking for him. The only reasons I've really disliked him at times is because of the above, and because his skill in the ring went way down after returning from the quad tear.

I stopped caring February 2002. I expected him to be pretty crap from ring rust for a month or so, but when it became apparent that he was getting the Undisputed title, while being extremely rusty, pissed me off. I didn't start EXTREMELY disliking him as a wrestler until he dropped the Undisputed title to the Undertaker (Backlash 2002, I believe). That's when I stopped caring at all for HHH.

Recently, though, I've started liking the HHH character again. The wrestler? Tolerable. He HAS been showing signs of his former 1999/2000/2001 self again, but he's still not even 1/4 as good as he used to be.

Most of all, though, I'm pissed that I have so much HHH memorabilia ("The Game" edition of WWF Magazine, a HHH throwblanket, "Game Over?!" t-shirt, a HHH tee from around his quad tear that is so crappy looking, and a few HHH figures).

I actually really like HHH right now. I'm thinking that this time that he's gone, will allow me to recharge my liking for him once again.

I've been an even bigger mark for HHH ever since Evolution started up. I've really enjoyed the group, and I really like the new 100,000 angle. It feels so...oldschool WCWish to me for some reason.

I've disliked him here and there, tired that he wouldn't drop the title earlier, but I tried to put all of that aside, and start to either like/hate him based on his character, in a markish sort of way.

Between No Way Out 2002 and Judgment Day 2002 for me. I started to hate him just for the sake that he was going to beat Jericho for the Undisputed title at WMX8, but I wasn't too mad. When he was going up against Hogan at Backlash, then I rooted for HHH, because the last thing I wanted to see was Hogan on top of the company. Judgment Day... when HHH beat Jericho yet again. At that point, I was really fed up with him, and I didn't really like him as a face anyway. I still had faith that he would still be able to wrestle decent matches, though. KOTR 2002 was the final nail in the coffin after watching him "brawl" with Undertaker for 20 min. in a horrible main event.

HHH is not the only one, is certainly not the first and won't be the last worker to play politics. In fact, Austin despite his overness, irks me more than HHH. And it's not like HHH is the only one that refuses to do the j-o-b (see UT, SCSA, HBK).

Taker, HBK, and Austin (to a much lesser extent) are all criticized for backstage politics. What's your point?
