Guest JMA Report post Posted October 4, 2003 One of the tigers in Siegfried & Roy's Las Vegas show bit Roy Horn in the neck Friday night, seriously injuring him, according to a spokesman for MGM Mirage. Emergency officials treated Horn at the Mirage Hotel-Casino around 8:20 p.m. (10:20 p.m. ET), for massive blood loss. Clark County Fire spokesman Bob Leinbach said Horn was talking at the time emergency workers arrived, but had trouble breathing. He was immediately transported to University Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. The hospital would not release his condition. A group of Australians witnessed the attack from the front row of the crowded theater, and said they thought it was just part of the show. "A lady ran past me, freaking out and it was then I sort of, in the back of my mind, thought now this isn't part of the show," said David Strudwick. "And then you look at the staff and they had a bit of horror in their eyes and .. it was like, wait a second, it may not be a part of the show." Horn, who was born in Nordenham, Germany, turned 59 on October 3. Combining magic with tiger stunts, the duo has performed on the Las Vegas strip for nearly 30 years. The tiger that attacked Horn is currently in quarantine and no one else was injured in the attack, according to Mirage spokesman Alan Feldman. The Kid 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 "Halfway into Friday night's performance, Horn appeared alone on stage with the tiger and told the crowd the animal was making its debut in the show - a claim hotel officials said was part of the act. The tiger, which weighs about 270 kilograms, then lunged at Horn, who tried to beat the animal off with a microphone. "I knew he was in trouble right away. I was horrified," said Diane Weightman, who was in the audience. "I wanted to jump on stage and help him. I didn't know what to do." Andy Cushman, also in the audience, said Horn "looked like a rag doll" as the tiger dragged him off the stage. Feldman said stage crew members used fire extinguishers to distract the animal and free Roy. After the attack, Fischbacher appeared on stage and told the 1,500 audience members the performance was cancelled, Cushman said. Hotel officials said the show has been cancelled indefinitely. The tiger involved in the attack, a seven-year-old male named Montecore, was quarantined at the hotel, officials said. Horn, who turned 59 on Friday, had never been injured during a show before. "Not a scratch, not by an animal," said Bernie Yuman, the duo's longtime manager. " Just brutal, I couldn't imagine seeing that...

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted October 5, 2003 I saw a clip of one of their performances. It was bound to happen. I don't want to see anybody die --- but if you mess around with TIGERS, eventually, you're going to get hurt badly. There is a reason why they aren't pets. -=Mike

Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted October 6, 2003 Id completely panic and just hope to the heavens that kicking an animal in the junk is the same as kicking a man in the junk. JangoFett4Hire 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2003 Did you know that in the U.S. this weekend there were two tiger attacks in the span of 24 hours? This other guy in NY had a PET tiger who bit his arm. He went to get treated saying his dog attacked him. Authorities noted that the wound looked too big for a mere dog attack, so police searched his apartment and found the Bengal tiger. Oh, and a crocodile too. Vyce 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2003 Do what Tyson does - punch it in the balls. That's a true story, for those who don't know. Before his bankruptcy, Tyson owned at least one "pet" tiger, which he enjoyed wrestling around with. Whenever it got a little....rambunctious, he would punch it in the balls. Frankly, even if I'm an 800 lb. beast with razor sharp teeth and claws, I wouldn't want that guy love-tapping my nutsack.

notJames 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2003 Actual footage from the tiger attack: Seriously folks, I think this was an accident. From the latest accounts I've read, Roy apparently fell while on stage, and the tiger tried to carry him offstage, unfortunately doing so by his neck and shoulder. Tigers (and most other cats) instinctually grab other tigers by the neck to move them or help them out. However, if you train a tiger to respect you like another tiger, and you fall, and that tiger tries to help you like it would help another tiger... well, it's gonna fuck you up. The tiger never really snapped. It simply tried to help Roy; however Roy has the skin of a "flamboyant" Vegas magician, not a tiger.
