tpww7 Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Speaking of the Rexplex, WWE has booked the Elizabeth, New Jersey building for a January 2004 Smackdown house show. From what I am told, WWE was looking into running the venue at the same time as Ring of Honor booked their first event there back in July.
Guest Boo_Bradley Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 How many seats? *checks old high school gym*
Guest Boo_Bradley Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 ^ Actually I have a PWI mag from 91 with a Lanny Poffo interview where they show pics of him vs Zuhhov in a High School sized building and the caption says WWF show I'm pretty sure... -- Someone needs to pull out that Money Inc 1993 High School House Show pic from MANY MANY months ago....
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Was this what you were referring to?
BifEverchad Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Was this what you were referring to? Oh Man! Those are sweet. I didnt see those before. Business was BAD.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Well it's about time someone got a clue and started running at smaller and cheaper buildings.
tpww7 Posted October 6, 2003 Author Report Posted October 6, 2003 Rexplex holds arbout 2,500 max I think. Hey, maybe they'll sell out for once. Or maybe they wont even get as many as ROH did at 1,200, which would give me a good laugh.
Mole Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 If they can't out draw ROH, they are in BIG trouble.
Guest Boo_Bradley Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Was this what you were referring to? Yes. Yes it is. Thanx.
KTID Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Why would they outdraw ROH? Its not like ANYONE would actually go out of their way to see WWE.
Guest Boo_Bradley Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 ^ That's kind of an ignorant statement, since MSG sold out this week within minutes for WM XX. ROH wouldn't be able to say the same about any arena over 5000 people.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 I didn't think ROH could sell out a 2500 seat arena. Hell ECW had trouble doing it.
Guest TSMAdmin Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Was this what you were referring to? That is one of the worst wrestling cards I have ever seen in my life.
teke184 Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Was this what you were referring to? That is one of the worst wrestling cards I have ever seen in my life. Steiners vs. Money Inc and Owen Hart vs. Terry Taylor wouldn't be bad, but the rest is pure 100% shite.
Steviekick Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Woohoo...i'm going to Rexplex to see WWE.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Was this what you were referring to? That is one of the worst wrestling cards I have ever seen in my life. Steiners vs. Money Inc and Owen Hart vs. Terry Taylor wouldn't be bad, but the rest is pure 100% shite. Maybe not, but as for name value, it's non-existant. Owen meant nothing in May of 1993, and I don't think Taylor was even on TV by that point. Same goes for Typhoon. Ramon was fresh off of his loss to 100-pound Sean Waltman. And Kamala vs. Kimchee? Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez as the main event? Please.
MillenniumMan831 Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Was this what you were referring to? Yes. Yes it is. Thanx. Holy shit! That looks like an event from BW-3. You would think the mere mention of the WWF would be enough of a draw to bring enough people to adequately fill an arena. And it wasn't even 1995!
Mole Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Why would they outdraw ROH? Its not like ANYONE would actually go out of their way to see WWE. Even though the product sucks, I would still go see a WWE event anytime. If I was home in CT, I would of gone to Raw tonight. Mohegan Sun is like 20 minutes away from me, so it isn't like going out of my way. But that isn't the point, I would still go to a WWE show anytime, other than a house show.

tpww7 Posted October 7, 2003 Author Report Posted October 7, 2003 Wow...maybe ROH will outdraw them in Jersey...

Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez as the main event? Please. Maybe I'm a bit biased, but seeing as those are my pictures and it was the first WWF show I had ever been to, the card wasn't THAT bad. Not all of the matches listed took place since not everyone advertised showed up (I don't remember Kamala or Typhoon being there), but as a mark, I got to see Tatanka vs. Razon Ramon (2 of my favourites go at it), Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez (I was a 'Taker mark, I'll admit it), and Money Inc. vs. the Steiners. It was awesome. Also, the arena was mostly filled that night, but there are only seats on one side of the ice surface at the Memorial Centre. The side that is seen in those pictures is on the same side as the hockey benches, which just have dressing rooms behind them. The arena used to have a website that had a 360 panorama view from centre ice that would show what I mean better, but it looks like it's down now.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Business is booming and everyone goes home happy: http://www.liveaudiowrestling.com/wo/news/...lt.asp?aID=8618 I saw that at 1bob (unfortunately, pop-ups and all, they're right up there with the Observer in getting the most house show reviews, and getting them up the quickest), and debated over posting it here. But you beat me to it. THE FUTURE TWO SIXTEEN. Move over, Storm 1:08! And thanks for the explanation TC. From the pictures it looked like an elementary school gymnasium.
treble Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 It's not a big arena, as I think the listed seating capacity is around 2,000, but I'd say that there were around that many people there that night. It was 10 years ago, though, so my memory's a little fuzzy.

RavishingRickRudo Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 I am waiting for the triumphant return of the Executioner gimmick.
