If the New Deal hadn't kept the US Economy alive there's strong evidence that there would've been either a Communist or Facist uprising. The shit was THAT BAD.

 

Plus, the man made a significant, positive, impact within 100 Days of entering the White House. How many other presidents can claim that ?

This is true. The New Deal's impact was pretty much non-existant in terms of helping the economy. WW2 brought the US out of the Depression.

 

Not just your opinion, but the opinion of every US History professor I've ever had as well. And their opinion is worth more than ours.

I was making fun of the reasons people don't like Arnold running. I LIKE Arnold myself. I have to disagree with you about Reagan, though. But I don't want to get into that here... and I won't.

Ok back to the recall...latest exit poll shows Ahnold with 43%, Bustmante 30%, and "Yes To Recall" at 59% Exit polls aren't terribly reliable but it doesn't look too good for Davis but pretty good for Ahnold.

My question is, what will the republican response be if a RECALL ARNOLD petition is started? Are they going to embrace this as the will of the people, or are they going to call it a liberal tactic to try to win an election that they lost fair & square!?!

Matt Drudge is reporting the results as being:

51% Arnold

 

30% Bustamante

 

13% McClintock

 

Now, the polls have not yet closed (they will shortly), and this is Drudge we're talking about, but presuming that his numbers aren't outrageously erroneous, it appears that Arnold will be the next governor of the State of California.

 

Unless, of course, the ACLU and God knows who else file lawsuits to the contrary.

Well the first issue of concern among Jesse Jackson and Co. Is that they say the infrastructure in the balloting is all fucked up. I guess in a normal election there is 5400 polling stations and for this election there is only 1800. He is trying to argue that the 1800 simply cannot handle the masses and is leading to disenfranchised voters. He may have some valid points, but when I went to vote earlier today at approx 2pm, my polling booth was fucking dead. I was the only one in there voting, and I think maybe one person was coming in as I was leaving. I am not sure if more people vote before or after the general 9-5 work hours though.

That the Socialist Party was handidly trounced in 1932 --- when the Depression was at its NADIR --- says that they never had a prayer of ever winning.

 

FDR did a lot of good, but he did A LOT of bad.

 

1) He attempted to basically do away with a balance on executive power by attempting to pack the Supreme Court.

 

2) His social policies have become economic boondoggles (and he KNEW Social Security would become a huge problem in the future).

 

3) He ran for office in 1944 when he knew he shouldn't. He also killed off the unspoken 2-term rule that people like Washington, who could've been President PERMANENTLY had he wished, followed.

 

Give me Eisenhower for an underappreciated President.

Actually FDR didn't break the 2-term "limit" in 44, he did it in 40 when he ran for a 3rd term.
