Guest Boo_Bradley Report post Posted October 7, 2003 Brock Lesnar retained the WWE Title over Kurt Angle and John Cena in 2:16. Yes that is correct, TWO MINUTES AND SIXTEEN SECONDS. They were all going for finishers, Cena wound up outside the ring, Lesnar hit the F-5 on Angle for the pin. -- /discuss
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted October 7, 2003 Hm...maybe someone was a little banged up. Hell, they may have all been a little beat up and just wanted to get it the hell over with as quickly as possible. Wouldn't read too much into it.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 How many pages long will *this* topic be at this time tomorrow? Spoiler (Highlight to Read): IT'S. A. HOUSE. SHOW.
Highland 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 If they make mention of this on TV, then and only then does a house show mean anything. Bret beating Flar for the title at a house show only happened because Vince decided at the very last minute for a change. This was apparently back when Vince could actually tell what the fans wanted and would deliver, unlike today where he and his company have largely lost touch. Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted October 7, 2003 Well, this IS the first show of a long streak of shows, including international ones, for the SD! brand. And most of the matches were less than five minutes, so I guess this was a 'throwaway' show to them. But these three half-assing are the last people you'd expect doing that, and the last people that SHOULD, considering they're promoted as top stars on TV. http://www.liveaudiowrestling.com/wo/news/...lt.asp?aID=8618 Another report, this one saying that the triple threat was four minutes and Cena ate the pin. But I doubt a third report will come in to 'break the tie' (surprise me, someone out there) considering the low turnout (1700-1800).
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 Even though it's a house show, still. If no one was hurt and nothing was at risk, there is NO FUCKING EXCUSE for having the match end that quickly. It may not matter one way or another when it comes to what happens on TV, but it isn't good news for the house shows. I'd be pissed to see that at a show, and I'm sure all of you here would be as well. My money is on someone being in danger, and they had to change the finish. I can't get myself to accept the belief that they "just did it" and booked it to go like that.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 Hey, Angle beat Brock for the title in under one minute on Smackdown back in the day. Why shouldn't Brock get his quick job back.
edotherocket 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 It'd would've been cool if Brock even used the same sneaky tactic as Angle and used Crash Holly as his double.

cawthon777 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 Bret beating Flar for the title at a house show only happened because Vince decided at the very last minute for a change. That was a TV taping, not a house show. The day before the Ironman, Angle beat Brock in 2 minutes. It's not newsworthy.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 Well, the whole Bret/Flair thing was kinda confusing really. It might have been a late era Prime Time TV taping but I don't recall that match ever being on TV. I only have it on some sort of comp tape they put out. See, sometimes on TV tapings there are dark matches. I remember a Raw taping in 1995 where the main event was Sid/Diesel for the title in a cage, but it was AFTER Raw had taped. It was about 4 minutes long as well, with Nash kicking Sid in the face and pinning him. Suffice to say it wasn't until 1999 that I went to another show! Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 I'm just a bit curious as to why Cena would even be in the match. Oh, and lame two-minute main events do not a crowd draw.

cawthon777 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 The report on Observer says that Lesnar actually pinned Cena in 4 minutes. Yeah, reports will vary but I'm going to go with the original since the guy timed every match and thus obviously paid attention to what was going on.

It might have been a late era Prime Time TV taping but I don't recall that match ever being on TV. I only have it on some sort of comp tape they put out. And on that comp tape (I can't remember the name but they did a profile on Bret with the PTW IC title ladder match with Michaels as well as a WWF Title match with Kamala) it says that the Bret/Flair title change match was "never before seen". It was a house show, it seems.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 It was a dark match. House show matches are easy to recognize - they have horrible lighting for one, they lack a video screen at the entrance way for two. Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted October 7, 2003 http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/2003_/arti.../1065513578.php A third house show report, and it says that..... ANGLE took the pinfall. And the report seems to have been written by Jerry Lawler.
haVoc 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 I think they showed the Bret/Flair title change on Primetime Wrestling. They had to of aired it on something because I have a tape with the match on it. Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes does the commentary and Gorilla is all over the place and the convo goes something like this. LAH: This Canadian crowd loves Bret Hart Gorilla: That's because Bret Hart is a home town boy. LAH: Um, Bret Hart is from Calgary Alberta, Canada. Gorilla: Nope. Right here in Saskatoon. LAH: Um, Stu Hart is from Calgary and so is his son Bret. Gorilla: Nope, right here in Saskatoon. Born, breaded and raised. ::Lord Alfred Hayes just shuts up and goes with the match::
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 there like three times they actually showed either crappy video tape of a Shocking House show win in the WWF. can't remember all of them but one was edge's House show win vs Jeff Jarrett for the IC title. haVoc 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 Thank God for Raw and Smackdown now. I remember when TV taping would take place before PPV's and it was one giant spoiler for the up coming weeks. Like say, HBK would come out to defend the IC title against Owen Hart, win, then a little later do one of those interviews where Vince would interview him on the stage by the announcers booth. The whole time you would be thinking "Wait a minute?!? I thought Jeff Jarrett was still IC champion?" That was confusing when you were a kid/mark and didn't know any better. LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 They used to tape whole matches just for video tape use at those tapings, along with several unused matches. I think the title change never showed completely, they showed chunks and had to tell everyone, but wasn't available to be seen in whole until the video release. Aero 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 I actually went to the event (which was ALOT better than Raw, last night) and I'll settle it right here.... The match was about 3 min., which sucked. It was finisher after finisher by all three guys (Angle, Cena, & Lesnar). I think it went... F-5 on Cena, Angle Slam on Brock, F-U on Angle, F-5 on Angle... where Brock pinned Angle as Cena was outside. Post-match, Angle regains his heat by countering Cena's attack into the Ankle Lock where Cena tapped out.

They showed footage on TV (or at least the Coliseum Video version) at Royal Rumble 1994 when the Quebecers beat Janetty/Kid (IIRC it was Janetty and Kid) for the tag titles at an MSG house show one week after the two underdogs beat Polo's squad on Raw.
