Jonathan Dehn showed good strike zone judgement! Carlos Desantis will be batting second in the batting order against both left-handed and right-handed pitchers. Although Atlanta will do a fairly good job of avoiding strikeouts and drawing walks, they probably won't be able to do anything else offensively. The pitching is looking good, with a solid core of Guillermo Bilbao, Matt Mckain and Jose Ayala. Joseph Corbin's goal of reaching the major leagues this season does not seem to be in the cards, and despite his best efforts in Spring Training, it's hard to envision a scenario where Corbin would get even one start in the bigs. As for the rest of the Crime Spree that did make the cut, Paco Fernandez will be playing third base on opening day and leading off for the Crime Spree offense, as Baltimore is banking that his marvelous speed will churn out plenty of leadoff doubles and triples. Charlie Matthews has once again been relegated to "simply backup", although a sudden injury to the other catchers on the depth chart could result in some nice playing time for the Grappler. Much like the Hanoi Janes, the Crime Spree should not have a problem avoiding strikeouts and gaining plenty of walks, but the fact that they'll have trouble getting the bat on the ball at all will likely render them useless. Despite a pretty vanilla starting rotation, the Baltimore bullpen will likely save the rest of the team from many losses. Christian Fury was able to trim down the strikeouts last year, but unfortunately also saw a drop in his RBI total (from 113 to 91). Now, the third-year player will be hoping to bring up his batting average quite a bit in the fifth position on the lineup, while maintaining his other solid numbers in homeruns, doubles, runs scored and stolen bases. Boston's offense still has a spark to it, but it was never truly the key to success for the Tea Baggers in recent years. Indeed, the pitching has been the backbone of the Baggers, and many fans were calling for the apocalypse when Tim Neal decided to move on to (perhaps) greener pastures. Despite "Hack"'s less than succesful postseason run last year, nothing changes his 24-8 regular season record, and many fans were willing to put up with those kind of postseason performances in exchange for regluar season performances like the one he had in 2020. Boston tried to renew faith in their team by snagging the phenomenal William Tienhaara, but the Boston rotation is looking terrible this year and there won't be much that the bullpen can do to help matters. This seems like a very likely season for Boston to finish out of the playoffs and hope for the best in the Postseason Tournament. Austin Sly has moved from Los Angeles to Columbus, something a little bit more quaint and a little bit more queer. As the designated hitter, he'll lead off against right-handed pitchers and bat cleanup against left-handed pitchers. Jesse Ewiak will be returning to the Columbus Pride, and he has expressed hope that he will be there the entire season, unlike his short stints with Kansas City in 2018 and New Orleans in 2020 prior to the trade that sent him to Ohio. Ewiak is static in the third spot of the lineup against both hands of pitchers. The hitting for Columbus is a mixed bag, as they won't get the bat on the ball all too often, but when they will, it'll be big hits. A lot of SFBL fans have been buzzing about Nigel McClain, wondering if this will be his year to make a serious run at the Rocket Wrist. He might not be getting all the run support that he'll want, but he has surpassed the doubts of many and has turned out to earned the #1 spot on the Columbus pitching rotation. Besides Roberto Velez, however, the Columbus rotation looks a little shaky. They'll have a very nice core of bullpeners who will keep things in line. Logan Caldwell is once again employed by the DMV. There is an insane amount of doubt as to how long this can last, and the correct answer is likely "not long," given Caldwell's extreme unsatisfaction with playing for Detroit, who haven't even gotten a whiff of a League Championship. Perhaps Logan should reconsider, however, as Detroit is looking fairly well on the offensive side, which is a good explanation as to why Caldwell is in the seventh and eighth spots of the lineup against right-handed and left-handed pitchers, respectively. Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem avoiding strikeouts that might hurt the team should they reach the postseason. The DMV acquired one of the if not the best closer in the game today in Frederick Dale, and now seem to have built themselves a top-notch pitching staff from top to bottom. It's not perfect, of course, but it's the closest that Detroit has ever come to that mark. Winston Ghandi is 36 years old but is still looking sharp at the third position against both hands of pitchers. Winston will be expected to pull in an astronomical number of walks, but he will not be alone, as three other players will also amass quite a bit of walks, which will make this team a sureshot hotbed for base on balls in the upcoming season. The rest of the offensive stats won't likely be anything to write home about, aside from an above average homerun total. The Jacksonville pitching seems to be a mixed bag, with a good ability to strikeout batters and keep from walking them, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of consistency in avoiding runs from crossing the plate. Should they make it to the playoffs, they will likely have a nice little three man rotation, although doubles will become a problem. To Kansas City's credit, they are getting better. Although not by much. This team will be able to scrap together a good amount of singles but probably not a lot of extra base hits, save for homeruns, which they are also getting better at. Continue to expect a high number of strikeouts from this team, however. What remains sickening is Kansas City's refusal to do anything with their pitching. They have remained in the same crappy state for seasons on end, and there has to be a way to draw the line somewhere. Ann Onita remains the #1 starter although she'd likely be #4 or #5 on most other teams in the league. Better luck next year, and I'm saying that before this season's already started. David Hunter likely won't be getting a lot of playing time, except for perhaps as a pinch runner as he might not be good for anything else on the Jokers. Patrick Hannon is locked in at the cleanup position, and he has been trying to motivate himself in the offseason to convince him to come through for Las Vegas, a team that was gracious enough to accept him in the middle of a run for the playoffs, only to end up missing the playoffs by quite a considerable margin. As a team, Las Vegas looks to be pretty good at getting the bat on the ball and perhaps getting a double, but anything beyond that is going to take a bit of work. Paul Wiley is expected to take another crack at the Rocket Wrist, and he'll have to do it with the rest of his rotation buddies straggling behind. The bullpen looks to be solid enough to support the "Razor", however, so all hope might not be lost for Las Vegas. Returning to SFBL action for the first time since a groin injury, Robert Henderson is hoping to lead his team to the playoffs again this year, but this time stay healthy long enough to play in the postseason. He's locked in at the number three position in the lineup, playing first base. "Big Red" had his streak of six straight Big Sticks interrupted in 2020, but this season could easily be the season that he regains the league's top hitting award. Henderson also only needs 130 hits for 3,000 hits at the age of 31 years old, A goal that can be easily attained. Henderson will be bidding for his 11th consecutive All-Star appearance as well. Surrounding him will be an offense more contact based than power based. Overall, the offense will be just around average. The bullpen needs some work, but Memphis has a great core rotation of Claudio Galaviz, Eugene Viljoen and Forest Kwong, who should be tearing things up again this season for the Eels. Three seasons after winning the League Championship with the Freedom, Philadelphia has fallen into obscurity and caused Edward James to leave for greener pastures, much like he did in 2007 when the Freedom again didn't seem like the place for him. Now going south of the border to the Mexico City Guerreros, he will be batting third against righties and fifth against lefties in the designated hitter position. Edward will be surrounded by an offense that will be pretty skilled in getting the bat on the ball, but will have trouble going deep in the count and thus will have a good skill of avoiding strikeouts. Mexico City could really surprise with their offense this season, especially when adding James to the equation. Mack Saberton and Ramon Razo should be able to carry the starting rotation to just above mediocrity, and with an awesome closer in Jose Lopez coming back for his second season with Mexico City, there's no telling what Mexico City can do. Brandon Rhodes is back in single A, batting in the cleanup position, as his career continues to circle the drain, just waiting to be sucked right out. The Crunk Machine will be hoping that lightning will strike twice and they will be able to reach the postseason once again this season. Andre Chevalier, Fresh Fish winner and candidate for the Big Stick last year will return this year, hoping to not fall into a sophomore slump in the cleanup position against righties and in the fifth position on the lineup against lefties. Mike Van Siclen's return to the Crunk Machine and his subsequent Spring Training session has brought him great joy, as he will get the chance to start on opening day. He will be batting eighth in the order, but will not go up against lefties. Tiny Gonzales is an intricate part of a above average bullpen that will save the asses of the Crunk Machine rotation more than once. Adam West will be back with the Bums, hoping to get another All-Star bid to add on to his first one last season. He'll lead off against right-handers and bat fifth against lefties. The offense won't be anything too fantastic as far as getting simple hits, but they do have the power to turn singles into doubles. Frigid Soul is third in the pitching rotation, as a part of a three-man rotation that will tear teams in half should they reach the postseason. Binky Musty and Garry Minkel will bring the awesome with Frigid. Except for the closer, however, the bullpen and remainder of the rotation won't be providing much along the lines of support. The signing of Andrew Fasquelle has given the Oklahoma Twisters a much needed improvement in the pitching department, making Fasquelle the #1 starter and moving down the TSM threesome of Cirillo, Jenkins and Simmons. Gabriel Cirillo is now second in the pitching rotation, with Marvin Jenkins third and Charlie Simmons fourth. The addition of Fasquelle gives Oklahoma one of the finest starting rotations, if not THE best in the SFBL. Or at least the most solid. The bullpen isn't too bad, but the Twisters are likely hoping that it won't come to that very often. Combined with an offense that will be able to get a good amount of hits, and Oklahoma is looking to become the second of the four expansion teams to get their first postseason berth. Peter Kostka and his loss of control in Spring Training has hurt him considerably, as he has fallen from the fifth spot in the starting rotation all the way to middle reliever, a position that he hasn't played in quite a long amount of time. The pitching staff is good at some things, but avoiding runs is not one of them, so don't expect them to make that much of a difference. With a few choice bright spots, the offense isn't looking much better, so expect this to be another rebuilding year for the Freedom. Simeon Reboyro was brought to Phoenix for the purpose of having him be the go-to guy for the closer. Unfortunately, he was injured early in 2020 after a solid season in 2019, and Rolf Dreikugeln took his place. The Berzerker is out, however, and Reboyro is back in, as Rolf is relegated to a set-up role for Simeon. Much like Philly, Phoenix is good at a lot of things not called avoiding runs. The bullpen is eons better than the starting rotation, and the offense is slightly above average at best. Ashes fans will likely be wondering once again this year when their time will come to return to the postseason. During the offseason, many New Jersians were angered by the move of the Clerks to Quahog to become the Quagmires. However, Quahog fans couldn't be happier, as the move to Quahog has attracted two players who are fascinated by Quahog and Rhode Island in general: Jonathan Dehn and Timothy Marsch, who came over to Quahog in a trade and free agency, respectively. The hitting-happy Clerks makes Marsch a little out of place, especially with his lack of defense at the catcher position. Marsch can still steal them bases, however, and thus leads off against lefties and bats seventh against righties. Dehn is looking to hit the 200-hit mark this season, and can easily attain it with a team like the Quagmires surrounding him as he leads off against righties and bats fifth against lefties. Dehn is a speedster as well, and can also gun down potential runs with his above average throwing arm. Both are great additions to the Quagmires, ensuring that the retirement of Trent Morphy will not hurt them too seriously. The league's best rotation might be a toss-up between Oklahoma and Quahog, as the latter brings some of the goodness that will likely easily get them into the playoffs again this year. In fact, don't be surprised if the Quagmires repeat as League Champions. They've certainly got the goods. It looks like the Velvet Hammer has reached the end of his velvet rope. RJ Frost will likely hang up the glove after this season with the Frasiers, and what a crazy road it has been. It's doubtful that Frost will be much of a factor this year, batting last against righties and lefties. Many won't be surprised to see him go out of the lineup early should a new prospect impress in Seattle. Frost's defensive prowess continues to impress, however, and may keep him from dropping into the minors. It's a wstretch, but RJ Frost needs 140 hits for 3,000 hits, although he seems like a sure thing for the Hall of Fame given his big HR and RBI numbers. It doesn't look good for a postseason run in Frost's final season, either, as a "eh" offense will likely hurt the pitching, no matter what Tipsy does. Guest Evolution Report post Posted December 15, 2004 Hey Evo... Is there some way you can use your ... ahem ... Godly powers to ship Corbin to my team and get him the DH spot? I mean I find it sad he's never been in the big leagues yet. It can be done, if you'd like. And yes, Corbin has been in the bigs. He had five full seasons before tearing his thigh muscle early in 2017 and being put out for the rest of the season. He hasn't seen regular play since. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2004 Well yeah on him not being in the majors then... I'd like him to get a second chance, but I'll leave it up to Corbin to make the decision on to whether or not he wants to take my offer.
hhh6294 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2004 If Corbin moving to another team will get him some playing time in the bigs then I'm all for it. I would much rather Corbin get some playing time in the bigs than anything else at this point.
A Happy Medium 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2004 Does Quahog need another bat? I'd love to have another good bat backing my guy up.
Guest Evolution Report post Posted December 16, 2004 Does Quahog need another bat? Short answer: Not really. Long answer: They could use someone who can hit for average, but as far as hitters for every other type of extra-base hit, they're well covered. There's no reason to overkill the hitting here. And instead of trading Corbin to Mexico City, I decided to make him DH for the Crime Spree in place of making a worthless trade that I can just get the same effect out of sending him up to DH in the Baltimore system. So Eddy J is all alone in Mexico City, for now. Oh yeah, and paging Mr. Logan Caldwell...you're a member of the DMV again...does this please you?

Guest Evolution Report post Posted December 17, 2004 SFBL April 2021 Best Team in April: The Oklahoma Twisters. Oklahoma is off to a good start in their quest to be the second expansion team to reach the playoffs, finishing the month winning nine of their last ten games and jumping out to a commanding nine game lead in the East-West Central. Andrew Fasquelle and Marvin Jenkins lead what many believe to be the best rotation in the SFBL this year, as Andrew is 5-0 with a 2.31 ERA and Marvin is 3-0 with a 4.02 ERA. Worst Team in April: The Montreal Fritures de Liberte. The third place team in the SFBL Postseason Tournament last year don't seem to have benefitted from last year's $250,000 bonus, as they are the worst of a terrible league in the East, losing nine of their final ten games in the month and finishing 7-19. Transactions: Monday 4/9/2021 : Baltimore: Released SS Joseph Corbin. Tuesday 4/17/2021 : Seattle: Released 1B RJ Frost, he refused assignment to minors. Awards/SFBL Players In The News: Friday, April 20th, 2021: Jonathan Dehn on fire, hits for cycle On 4/20, 2021, light one up for this pimp daddy. Jonathan Dehn hits 'em where they ain't. Vancouver certainly agrees as Quahog's centerfielder unloaded five hits and hit for the cycle. His first hit was a triple off Leon Gervin in the first inning. A single in the second off Gervin accounted for his second hit. His third hit, a solo homerun off Domingo Santana in the sixth inning, cleared the fence in center field. A pitch from Santana in the very same inning left his bat for a three-RBI double. That drive completed the cycle, as Dehn couldn't be more pleased with his performance! A single in the eighth off Rex "Rut-Roh" Rastrelli accounted for his fifth hit. Jonathan drove in four runs while scoring two on his own. He is hitting .282 this season, with two homers and 7 RBI. Just six days ago, Brandon Mariano also hit for the cycle. Tuesday, April 24th, 2021: Zoilo Castillo (non-TSM) stars with 3000th career hit PHOENIX - Baltimore's players had every reason to congratulate Zoilo Castillo, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 3000th career hit! He hit a single in the third off Raul Alvarez for number 3,000. His best year so far was 2012 where he hit .326 with 34 homeruns and 98 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'm going to the hotel to get some rest and then maybe it'll hit me.' The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player! Monday, April 30th, 2021: Jacksonville's Ghandi wins Player of the Week Award The North-South Player of the Week award goes to Winston Ghandi, Jacksonville's starting shortstop. He had an on base percentage of .619 and hit .579, while driving in 9 runs. Tuesday, May 1st, 2021: Henderson wins Batter of the Month award It's the 19th time that the North-South Batter of the Month award goes to Memphis' first baseman Robert Henderson. Robert pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .409 with seven homeruns and 26 RBI while slugging .720. SFBL Standings Injuries: Friday 4/13/2021 : DET: Logan Caldwell was injured while running the bases. hhh6294 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2004 Transactions: Monday 4/9/2021 : Baltimore: Released SS Joseph Corbin. IMPORTANT: After some consideration and realizing that it's really not fair to treat peeps this way, I have decided that the Euthanasia Rule will not have any consequences anymore. If you want to kill your player off and create a new one, you're free to go ahead. Bah... fuckin' Crime Spree. >_< here's hoping that Corbin gets picked up by some other team this season... otherwise I might as well be the first to excersize the euthanasia rule. You're so close to retirement anyway that it's just worth seeing if you out and out retire at the end of this season. If you don't retire, than I can kill you off at the very beginning of 2022. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2004 Marvin Jenkins and his 7 years between playoff appearances seems to be kicking in (2007/2014/2021???) but I dont want to jinx it so early in the season. And besides, he'll suck if he does make it (0-3 with a 7.23 ERA in 4 playoff games) Also its good news that he finally tied Lebeau for 4th most wins. I wonder how many more years a 36 year old knuckleballer can pitch? It would be awesome to see Marvin get to 300 wins, but its probably not gonna happen. These numbers after one month disturb me. (Le sigh) So does Boston's record, but considering they're only doing one game worse than last year (thusfar)... Who knows... Guest Evolution Report post Posted January 3, 2005 SFBL May 2021 Best Team in May: The Seattle Frasiers. Seattle went from worst to first in the West, amassing a 21-7 record and a seven-game winning streak during the month of May. Seattle has leapfrogged Los Angeles, leading them by two games now in the West as Los Angeles simply could not keep up, having a below-.500 record for the month. Worst Team in May: The Philadelphia Freedom. In a division where being terrible could still make you first place, the Freedom aren't first place. Think about that and then realize that the Freedom, once tied for the division lead at the end of April, are now four games behind with a 7-21 May. Thankfully, all the other teams in the East are so horrible that they aren't behind too badly...yet. If even one of the teams in the East gets hot in the coming months, the Freedom will have to pick up the pace or simply get left behind. Transactions: NONE SFBL PLAYERS IN THE NEWS: Saturday, May 12th, 2021: Vancouver's Brett Smith (non-TSM) crushes homerun #500 ATLANTA - Brett Smith got a standing ovation from 34,732 fans in Atlanta, who witnessed his historic 500th career homerun. A pitch from Enrique Padilla in the seventh inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 431 feet from home plate in center field. Perhaps his best year so far was 2017 where he hit .342 with 39 homeruns and 144 RBI. Brett hit 30+ homeruns in a season 9 times, hitting 40 bombs once. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I've given everything I could to help my team.' The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player. Monday, May 14th, 2021: Ewiak wins Player of the Week award Columbus' first baseman Jesse Ewiak had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the North-South Player of the Week! Ewiak helped his team with an average of .609 and 3 RBI in 23 at bats. Jesse is hitting .383 this year, with 57 hits in 149 at bats. He has driven in 23 runs, slugging .591. He's 2nd in the North-South in batting! Saturday, May 19th, 2021: Columbus' Neall Isaacson (non-TSM) crushes homerun #500 COLUMBUS - Neall Isaacson hit his historic 500th career homerun in Applewhite Field today. His monumental drive, a solo homerun off Miguel Moldonado in the third inning, cleared the fence in left-center. Along with his 500 homeruns, Neall collected 2509 hits and 1590 RBI in 15 seasons. Neall hit 30+ homeruns in a season eight times, hitting 40 bombs 7 times. The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player. Sunday, May 20th, 2021: Columbus' McClain out of 4 weeks COLUMBUS - Columbus' ace Nigel McClain suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 4 weeks. In the third inning of the game against Quahog he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Nigel has suffered a strained back muscle. Opposing players hit .255 against Nigel this season. While posting an ERA of 3.84 he went 4-5 in 10 starts, fanning 52 and walking 20 hitters. Monday, May 21st, 2021: Memphis' Henderson wins Player of the Week award The North-South's best player of the week was Memphis' Robert Henderson, who wins the award for the 32nd time in his career. He has scored 34 runs on his own. He's 1st in the North-South in batting and 9th in RBI! Friday, June 1st, 2021: Marvin Jenkins wins Pitcher of the Month The winner of this month's East-West Pitcher of the Month award is Oklahoma's Marvin Jenkins. He struck out 14 hitters in his four starts, putting together a record of 4-0 while pitching 14 innings. His ERA in May was 1.50. Marvin also fired a shutout. Marvin has a record of 7-0 this season with an ERA of 3.04. In 77 innings he was able to strike out 40 batters. He has 3 complete games and one shutout.
