I'm totally with DropToeHoldOntoChair here, I'm kind of shocked by all this raving over what I thought was a very weak show. I went to a near-empty Hooters with my roommate, and we both were sitting there laughing at how bad everything was and walked out shaking our heads. It was a good time, but not because of the quality of the PPV. Tajiri/Rey was a nice enough opener and Brock/Taker was better than I expected, but it had a horrible ending and felt a little slow. Everything else was either bland, or in the case of Steph/Vince and Show/Eddy, really really bad. Benoit's carry job of Albert was pretty amazing, but it still wasn't a very good match. I'm probably the only one, but I found myself getting into Summerslam and Unforgiven more than this. Shrug.

i guess the next SD! only ppv is no way out... i will skip the next three and save my money to get that and WMXX... screw RAW...

Well I wouldn't go as far as to call the main event 4-stars.

Now not to disagree that it was damn good and Taker carried the bitch on his back.

I mean I said it in an earlier thread that Taker can work when he feels like it and he obviously felt like it.

Armageddon is Raw, No Way Out is Smackdown.

Maybe I'm living in a paralell universe, but I thought Taker-Brock was by far their worst match, as both guys seemed completely blown up 5-10 minutes in to me. Plus, how lame is it to do false finishes before the chain is grabbed? Nobody bought them at all, and rightly so.

I guess I need to get No Mercy on tape when it comes out, because I thought the main event was in the DUD range.

Cena-Angle was very good, but the booking tonight was APPALLING.

Cena doesn't go over, Big Show makes Eddy look like shit, etc. Where is any of this going? Eddy-Chavo feud? Spare me.

Taker eats Ultimo for lunch and you call it a dud?

Tajiri/Rey - ****1/2. I fell in absolute love with this match. Tajiri working Rey and working Rey and all the spots made SENSE. Big thumbs up.

Benoit/Train - ***1/2. About as good as it could have possibly been. Train beat the snot out of Benoit and the crowd RALLIED. Nice build to a hot ending.

Hardy/Gowan - **. Spotty but fun.

APA/Bashams - 1/4*. Get the fucking APA off my tv. Now would be nice. Remember when Farooq was supposed to retire? Yea me too.

Vince/Steph - 1/2*. Boring boring boring. We all knew who would win, and I could call Linda throwing in the towel from the time the first bell rang.

Angle/Cena - ***3/4. And Cena can be a main event guy. This was pretty pedestrian til the latter half of the match, and then all the near-falls reminded me of the wondeful Angle/Edge matches and I weeped for joy for Cena. Good job to both men.

Eddy/Show - *. Eddy was really off tonight. Oh my I was not pleased. Show was his terrible steaming pile of shit tonight, and the match did not work. No it didn't.

Brock/Taker - ***. Some good action, but there were definately some plodding parts and run-ins galore didn't help. The gimmick part hurt this big time.

Overall: I TOLD you not to doubt this show. Look in the official thread. I told you Smackdown is on a mission to deliver no matter what. 4 ***+ matches with Tajiri/Rey blowing my mind and I am happy with wrestling tonight.

Thats why AFTER the first 5-10 Minutes Undertaker was going Lucha-Taker.

WWE SmackDown! presents......NO MERCY 2003

Star Ratings

Tajiri vs Rey Mysterio = ***1/4

Chris Benoit vs A-Train = **1/2

Zach Gowen vs Matt Hardy = **

Basham Brothers vs APA = *1/4

Vince McMahon vs Stephanie McMahon = *

Kurt Angle vs John Cena = ***3/4

Eddie Guerrero vs The Big Show = **1/2

Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar = **3/4

Good show overall. Not an excellent show, or an amazing effort from SmackDown!, but it was good. I wasnt really expecting a lot from this Pay-Per-View, so I can't say I was disappointed at all. One thing I don't get here is the high, high praise for the Main Event. Sure the UT has been pulling on the work boots for some time now, and especially tonight he was on. But overall, the match was overbooked and boring at times. I give it a solid two and three quarter stars, and thats being generous.

exactly...Outside of liger and Mysterio...I never seen a blown up wrestler go luncha with Magristral Cradles, Planchas, Over the top rope Heascisscors and shit...

Now I didn't see the show but just judging from various opinions that it was probably a good show. But I am getting a vibe about how there was such low expectations coming in that people probably are overrating it a bit. From reading reports on the show the booking does seem a bit out of whack but what else is new?

Man I was kind of angry at Albert nearly killing Benoit. You could tell Albert was scared though. I mean he had this look on his face for the next 5 minutes like he was going to vomit. I actually kind of felt sorry for him after that. Then I remember he nearly killed Jesus H. Benoit.

After two split PPVS, who do you guys think is the winner? RAW or Smackdown?

.......Smackdown 2. Raw 0.

Bad Blood sucked. Unforgiven was decent at best.

Vengeance kicked ass. No Mercy shocked the hell out of me by kicking ass as well.

thank GOD Vicne/Steph was in the middle of the card and kept under 8:00 though.

You'd skip the Rumble? The last 4 years it's been a consistantly good show.

gotta love the focus the McMahon match took NOT to have steph's face touched in any way possible...

Truth be told, I haven't seen No Mercy yet, but with what everyone is saying, and considering I saw the other three PPVs, I'd say Smackdown, by quite a bit, despite McMahon-a-mania.
