Guest MikeSC Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 The economy grew at an astonishingly good 7.2% in the 3rd quarter. -=Mike ...Figured that a recovery would hit at the worst possible time for the Dems
Spicy McHaggis Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 I thought this thread would be about Dean-o declaring himself a metrosexual. But I guess that wouldn't be good news for anybody.

Heck, Dean's also a Wyclef Jean fan, apparently. Man, I'm looking forward to the curb-stomping-to-be in 2004. -=Mike

Guest Choken One Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Damn the Economy for going up...DAMN It to hell. If it has the balls to go up come Holiday season...then let it burn because we GOTTA have that pit of energy Kerry or Mr. Charisma Howie Dean in office damn it!

I'd almost like to see Dean in office, to be honest. I'm too young to remember much of the debacle of the Carter years, and I'm getting a real strong Jimmy C.-vibe out of him.' Does Howie have an idiot brother or ugly daughter? -=Mike
C Dubya 04 Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Is it wrong for me to hope for economic downturn. I think that a year long recession would be worth it to get Bush out of office.

kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Where did you hear this Mike? I knew the economy's growing, just not by that much. And what good is it when the only jobs created aren't REAL UNION WORKING MAN JOBS? You're such an elitist...
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 It was a headline on Yahoo for most of the day.

And as usual he won't be able to drink water when Colmes talks, lest their ventriloquist gig be discovered.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 It actually broke a record for the last 30 yrs. or something like that.
Guest MD2020 Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Is it wrong for me to hope for economic downturn. I think that a year long recession would be worth it to get Bush out of office. YEAH!! And maybe they'll be a terriorst attack, like a nuke, in a major city!!!! That'll show that Bush can't lead, and we'll get a good old Dem in charge. Of course, LOL FAUXNEWS2009 LOL will try to spin it like it wasn't Bush's fault, but we'll know it is, because OMG BUSH IS DUMB LOL. Sorry if good news for the country might lead to the person of you're choosing losing an election.
Guest Choken One Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 The Dems can still bitch about the War if they want... No one will listen because fuck we just want our money and jobs.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Most of the jobs being created are not ones that can support the average family. This isn't growth, it's a mile's swelling.

Sorry if good news for the country might lead to the person of you're choosing losing an election. Let's not jump the gun here. There's an extreme difference between the economy and terrorists. And what I said I thought was pretty clearly in jest. (But I apologize if it was taken the wrong way. It's really hard to write a dry sense of humor and have it come off right.) Yes, I don't want Bush to be President again, I'll never deny that, but I think that those discussions fit much better in another thread. I just wanted to respond to this post because I don't like that liberals are being painted as anti-American all over the place and made to seem like we're rooting for terrorists and the like. Just because I'm a liberal and don't support the President does not mean I do not 100% love this country. The best part of this country in my opinion is that we are supposed to be able to voice our opinions and displeasure with anyone, even the President.
Justice Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Most of the jobs being created are not ones that can support the average family. This isn't growth, it's a mile's swelling. Got any proof of this, if I may ask. I don't remember anyone actually specifying what type of jobs were really being made.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Economic growth isn't gonna matter unless it's noticed in day to day life by the public. This won't help or hinder Dean unless a big deal is made out of this.
Justice Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 This won't help or hinder Dean unless a big deal is made out of this. Naw, I'm sure the Bush Administration will just downplay this.
Guest stardust Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 I saw the report on this on the CBS evening news tonight, and it's actually the largest 3rd quarter jump the economy has made since the '80s. And while it's great that people are spending money and businesses are profitting, part of the reason businesses are profitting is because their number of employees, for the most part, is considerably lower due to the increased amount of layoffs over the past year. Yes, more money changed hands and was spent in retail and on houses and cars due to low interest rates, but new jobs, for the most part, still aren't being created. Bush credited the upswing to his tax credits, which is probably true, since a lot of those were put in the mail right around back to school time when people were spending money on school clothes and supplies. But those checks don't last forever; hell, most people I know who got those barely had any of the money after two weeks. I'm curious to see how much spending is done this quarter, though, what with the holiday season coming upon us.
Michrome Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 There's no way the economy can maintain 7.2% growth for the third quarter, but inital unemployment claims are dropping, and I'll be interested in seeing the jobs report on October. All this proves is that when Americans get to keep more of their money, they spend more. This is how the economy has worked for a long time, and I don't understand why it's a shocking revelation. I can't *wait* to see Krugman's spin on this.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Krugman -- hahahahaha. Freakin' turd...
Guest MikeSC Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Most of the jobs being created are not ones that can support the average family. This isn't growth, it's a mile's swelling. And you know this how? We could go into depth with what kinds of jobs were created under Clinton --- but what would be the point? -=Mike ...Hillary griped that most of the wealth of the 80's was only on paper. How in the heck can they explain away the wealth of the 90's, which was even MORE "on paper"?
Guest MikeSC Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 This won't help or hinder Dean unless a big deal is made out of this. Naw, I'm sure the Bush Administration will just downplay this. I can see it now: Helen Thomas: President Bush, what do you think about the economic growth? Also, shouldn't I be dead by now? Bush: Oh, the numbers don't mean much. And I thought you died 4 years ago. -=Mike ...Wonder how Bill Moyer will handle this. Krugman, I can imagine, will commit hari kari.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 1980s = Decade of Greed 1990s = Decade of Greedier...
Vyce Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Wait, wait - Helen Thomas is NOT dead? I would have bet money that she was. Honest.
