When did annoying become a selling point?

When the hell did someone decide that annoying the living shit out of the viewer was the way to sell merchandise?

I know there are more, and feel free to mention them, but...

WHY THE HELL are we subjected to multiple commericals of this annoying as all fuck jackass harassing pro athletes and screaming about some ESPN video game? There's a football one, a hockey one and a basketball one, and all he does his scream, make stupid faces and yell some more. Why does this make me want to buy the product?

I'm not even going to get into Talking baby.

Because it's Tracy Morgan. I guess it doesn't work if you're not familiar with him.

Why should I be familiar with him?

Would being familiar with him make it less annoying?

You ARE in his biggest well known demo aren't you?

18-24. College. SNL Market.

Besides, those ORBIT gum commericals are even worse.

SNL?

Saturday Night Live?

Sorry, I watch Raw and Smackdown. I don't know if I can routinely watch a third show that was once good but now Godawful.

Here's a tough concept to grasp:

Whats annoying to you, may not being annoying, or even be funny to someone else.

Hard to grasp, I know, but work at it.

Virgin cell phones are the worst commercials ever made.

No, that would be the old TRUTH commercials.

Well if you can hear him on the phone than you know its a quality product. I would rather hear him than a Pakistani lounge singer trying to sell me pork chops from a vending machine.

Yeah, that one gives me more of an urge to kill him and anyone who looks at all like him...not buy a phone.

Truth is more annoying then anything else. But they're not selling anything, they're just annoying kids.

The one I love the most are the pot ones...where the girl smokes a joint and gets molested at a party. And the other where the girl gets knocked up cause she smoked...I thought that one was for bad parents who raise little whore pot smoking kids.

I don't smoke or anything...but most people I know that smoke pot are usually laid back people who don't hurt anyone.

I like the Tracy Morgan basketball commercial. I chuckle every time he says "And I've acheived the isometric motion" to Ben Wallace. Just the rediculousness of the statement and the tone of his voice get me every time.

You can't really say it's "godawful" if you don't watch it..

I posted a thread about that commercial in the Food/Shopping folder. So I'm way ahead of you on that one.

Well Morgan isn't annoying, he's funny.

"The way I dunk on you will look unorthodoxed!"

That's gold.

Well, you answered your own question. It's annoying because you will remember it. You obviously remember those commericals, thus the product has recognition with you. Doesn't mean you'll run out and buy it but you do know about it now...

That line kills me every time. I'm tearing up right now just imagining it.

Is it just me, or is that lazy eye of his frightening?

Wait, I thought the be-all-end-all of advertising was to get people to buy your shit

Doesn't make much sense to make a product, then advertise it and have no one buy it

"We're in the red and nearing Chapter 11, but by gawd at least everyone knows who we are."

What about those John Stamos 10-10-987 ones, or whatever stupid phone thing it is? Those are God awful.
