Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 14, 2003 80's music are "oldies" now. Unless your using the definition that oldies is pre 1960's music. Still, you can't get pissed about 80's music being called old when it is old.
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 i just don't consider it "oldies" because I do use defintions such as "anything they would play on Oldies radio" ...i don't hear no fucking Whitesnake backing up The Box Tops on my local oldies station
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 And your adventures with your sister while trying to find her some Modest Mouse tickets, who she apparently likes because she thinks they're hot, has to do with narrow-mindedness how? I can see some possible reasoning there, such as "I hate people that just like a band/artist because they're attractive," but otherwise...nope, not feelin' it. Fred has a mohawk? I now feel dirty for ever having a mohawk... Oh, no, not hot as in attractive. Hot as in, "SO HOT RIGHT NOW". I've had repeated arguments with her about how Good Charlotte and Linkin Park are horrible, bringing up points lifted from various threads here, but she still insists that they're good....she also used to work at Hot Topic. Better?

Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 I'd say the hardcore ICP fans are, but I'm to scared of them to have any kind of conversation with them to find out. So I'mma go with the goth punk emo whatever thing. And all the kids at my school. Except for a couple of them, NONE of them have any kind of taste in music. But I hate most rap, so what do I know? So if not being punk is punk, does that mean Bocelli is punk?

Big McLargeHuge 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 Since I haven't bashed Metal in awhile, I might as well do it here: Metalheads are the correct answer... And people who hate anything current/mainstream/popular just 'cuz'.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 Hardcore punk fans piss me off the most. I resent being told that my musical tastes aren't any good by anyone. I'll fucking listen to whatever I enjoy and I don't want to have to worry about whether or not I'm being a poser. If I feel like listening to Korn, I'll listen to Korn. If I want to turn the volume up for Ben Folds, I fucking will. It's unfair to tell anyone that they are stupid for liking whatever they like (with MTV influence being the sole exception, those poor kids are being manipulated). Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 Personally, I'd say Black Metal fans. Not ALL of them, but the hardcore ones, who seem to think that if you aren't wearing corpsepaint and making weird fucking sounds, you're not "true". They bother me. Example: in 1993(dont quote me on that because I ain't 100% sure of the time) Varg Vikernes, of the band Burzum, sent his psycho girlfriend from Norway to Sweden to threaten, and ultimately after some scare tactics, burn down the leader of the band therion's house due to his decision to slightly alter musical styles. Example2: In 1991(roughly), the vocalist of the band Mayhem, Dead(ironic stagename) committed suicide. After this happened, Bandleader Oystein Aarseth began using this as a marketing gimmick for 'true' black metal saying " Dead committed suicide because he could no longer deal with the so-called black/death metal communities continuing practise of selling out their principles in order to gain acceptance by the masses" or something very close to that. I couldn't make this shit up. example 3: Bigmclargehuge is a big dork.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 The people that come in here and accuse folk of hating mainstream music just because, and only listening to death metal. People like what they like, and don't like what they don't like. I don't give a shit if someone wants to like Coldplay, it's just that if I ever found myself enjoying them, I would request my friends drown me like a kitten. Perfxion 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 Stupid fans are the worst. It doesn't matter what genre it is. THey all fucking suck. Rap fans who don't know about sampling. Rock fans that blindy hate rap even when their favorite groups rap their lyrics. Metal and Indy fans that say anything top 40 is crap. MTV fans that say anything non mainstream is crap. People who can't stand that people like Coldplay, Creed, Cleine Dion, 50 Cent, Brit ect. ect. Anyone that calls any group "Sellouts". Rap fans that think D-Block and the like is true hip-hop and that Nelly and Diddy aren't hip-hop. Older people who think all rap sucks. Older people that hate everything past 1981. Anyone who calls any group overrated(looking at a lot of people on this board right now). Anyone who thinks pop music sucks because the artist "are puppets of the record comps". Anyone who says Linkin Park sucks because they are "BSB with gutairs". Any old school rock fans that think they 60s and 70s was all about the music excluding the drugs and war going on. Old school fans of many genres that hate RnB, Rock, and Rap now adays because it talks about sex too much, but own every CD of Barry White. People who say this is "White music" and this is "Black Music". Country fans that won't give rap one second. Rap fans that won't give country a second. Artist who make "White Music" and "Black Music" for their fans to be dumb enough to think music is only for some races.. Women who think rap and rock degrades women yet is blind to the million women trying to be Miss Applebottom. And finally, for now, Men who think RnB is nothing but male bashers while listening to a 2 Live Crew CD.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 ^Agreed. My friend Crawford, who is the guitarist of an awesome local death band known as Inheritance, said "if Shadows Fall got an album in the top 100, then they sold out, simply because success means you sold out." And yes, I do wish his band gets very successful, and plays shows in other places besides at a friend's party or local bars/clubs/whatever. Why? Because then I can use his own philosophy against him. Women who think rap and rock degrades women yet is blind to the million women trying to be Miss Applebottom. And finally, for now, Men who think RnB is nothing but male bashers while listening to a 2 Live Crew CD. This is the most intelligent thing I've read in this thread so far. You can like what you like, but don't be stupid about what you're listening to... or more importantly, don't be stupid about what you're not listening to. If I had to narrow the stupidity down to one segment of the population, it would have to be teenagers. The majority seem to have tunnel vision when it comes to what they like and what "sucks", especially in terms of music. This goes hand in hand with the earmark of adolescence:seeking an identity. Paradoxically, finding yourself often involves sacrificing your individuality and glomming onto a particular social sect, which more often than not, has its own "soundtrack". "Can't be a skinhead and listen to Avril Lavigne", or "That Hatebreed stuff is so loud... that guy definitely ain't no Usher" or "Shit, those emo kids are so lame-ass with their weepy rock... hey, the new Creed just came out! Cool!" Guess that's just part and parcel of being young. I know... I've been there. In some ways, I've never left.
Jack_Bauer 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 That's totally true. Someone was like 'How can you like Linkin Park and REM ? That's impossible !' I basically said 'No it isn't, because I like both' Too many people stick people into categories. I wear a band hoodie, therefore I am a goth who only likes metal. The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 if i took the time to write down my entire CD collecion...i'd get odd looks from some people everything from Mariah to Journey to Linkin Park to Phish to Metallica to crazy techno to Whitesnake to etc to etc to etc... 400 CDs can make for quite the crazy list of choices... Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 I bet I have a crazier collection than you. Everything imaginable except country, save some Johnny Cash and a little Hank Williams. Another irritating music fan is those (and there's a few around here) who say that pure pop artists have no talent. Granted, they're often sold on something other than musical ability, but to say they have no talent at all is fairly daft.

The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 I don't really enjoy the whole new wave of pop music... but I can look at them and hear the "music" and understand why they are making the money they are making... and I don't really have any country either... And remember kids, that's only SOME of us, not all, some are nice, likable people, like me. Oh and only SOME are complete pussies not all, so when you see a 6'6 300lbs juggalo with tattoos and muscles on top of muscles, he ain't a pussy don't fuck with him.
