Mole Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 It is a bit early seeing how some movies for the Oscar race haven't come out yet, but so far, what do you think is going to do well?
Lord of The Curry Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 This is being done on mostly hype and speculation but what the fuck..... Best Picture Lord of The Rings: Return of The King Cold Mountain Mystic River The Last Samurai Big Fish Best Actor Sean Penn, Mystic River Bill Murray, Lost in Translation Viggo Mortennson, Lord of the Rings: ROTK Ben Kingsley, House of Sand and Fog Paul Giamatti, American Splendor Best Actress Nicole Kidman, Cold Mountain Julia Roberts, Mona Lisa Smile Naomi Watts, 21 Grams Gwyneth Paltrow, Sylvia Jennifer Connoly, House of Sand and Fog Best Supporting Actor Ed Harris, The Human Stain Tim Robbins, Mystic River Kevin Bacon, Mystic River Sir Ian McKellan, Lord of The Rings: ROTK Albert Finney, Big Fish Best Supporting Actress Renee Zellewegger, Cold Mountain Laura Linney, Big Fish Holly Hunter, Thirteen Nicole Kidman, The Human Stain Jessica Lange, Big Fish Best Director Peter Jackson, Lord of The Rings: ROTK Clint Eastwood, Mystic River Anthony Minghella, Cold Mountain Tim Burton, Big Fish Sofia Coppola, Lost in Translation
Mole Posted November 17, 2003 Author Report Posted November 17, 2003 Best Supporting Actor Ed Harris, The Human Stain Tim Robbins, Mystic River Kevin Bacon, Mystic River Sir Ian McKellan, Lord of The Rings: ROTK Albert Finney, Big Fish I don't think Ian McKellan will get a nod. Kill Bill should get a Best Picture nod, but I doubt it will happen. It should get some kind of nod, maybe even orignal screenplay.
Cuban Linx Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 Paris Hilton gets a best actress nomination for her sex video.
BlackFlagg Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 I could see Kill Bill getting Best Score
Mole Posted November 17, 2003 Author Report Posted November 17, 2003 Paris Hilton gets a best actress nomination for her sex video. Yeah, seeing how it was real and the tape sucked.
WrestlingDeacon Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 No way Nicole Kidman gets nominated in the best supporting actress category after winning the best actress trophy last year.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 Im starting to think that maybe Return of the King isn't such a lock for best picture. Everyone's like "It will get best picture more or less because of the first two" but Im not seeing it. Side note: I have got to believe that FOX is somehow behind that Paris Hilton tape, its almost too good free publicity for their new show with her in it...
WrestlingDeacon Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 This is looking to be a very week Oscar year, so I think that Return of the King and Peter Jackson have very good chances at awards. However, I don't think the academy will just hand them trophies for all three films as a whole. They've never done that with a film series. The new movie will have to stand on its own.
razazteca Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 Matrix for best fight scene inspired by anime. X2 for best action movie with an actual script and best sequel. Kill Bill best score.
Ravenbomb Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 yeah, Finding Nemo for Best Animated movie is pretty much a given
razazteca Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 Will Johnny Depp get nominated for Pirates or Once Upon a Time in Mexico?
Mole Posted November 17, 2003 Author Report Posted November 17, 2003 Not for Pirates, it's a comedy and the academy doesn't like the funny. Matrix/LOTR will get a nod for special effects, along with X2.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Not for Pirates, it's a comedy and the academy doesn't like the funny. That's not true...it's just rare for comedies to be Oscar worthy and/or Oscar friendly. Besides Pirates wasn't a comedy, twas an action and adventure. Depp won't get an nomination for either. Kill Bill may win a few Tech Oscars and maybe screenplay. Hulk should get an editing nod, because I liked the comic panels.
Cheex Incarnate Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 I hate to break it to you, but Big Fish was pushed back to a March release, so no noms this year.
Kahran Ramsus Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Daredevil should get a nom for Sound Effects Editing, but it probably won't.
Mik Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 We should be doing this thread in January, when all the movies have been seen. What is up with this? Shoudln't really expect more from Smartmarks least intelligent poster.

Pirates was a action/comedy, kind of like MIB but was actually good. X2 for best action movie with an actual script and best sequel. If they had an award for best action movie, it should get it. I think the MTV awards do though.

Shoudln't really expect more from Smartmarks least intelligent poster. If you read what I wrote in the beginning of the thread: It is a bit early seeing how some movies for the Oscar race haven't come out yet, but so far, what do you think is going to do well? Plus EW has already done an Oscar Predictions article, so I figured that TSM would too. Some thoughts they made on the Oscars. I'm not going to type all of the things they said because that would take too long. Best Picture: Return of the King Cold Mountain The Last Samurai Master and Commander Mystic River Lost in Translation Seabiscuit House of Sand and Fog 21 Grams The Missing Best Actor: Sean Penn - Mystic River Bill Murray - Lost in Translation Ben Kingsley - House of Sand and Fog Michael Caine - The Statement Lude Jaw - Cold Mountain Russel Crowe - Master and Commander The Last Samurai - Tom Cruise Anthony Hopkins - The Human Stain Jack Nicholson - Something's Gotta Give Best Actress: Nicole Kidman - Cold Mountain Diane Keaton - Something's Gotta Give Naomi Watts - 21 Grams Jennifer Connelly - House of Sand and Fog Gwyneth Paltrow - Sylvia Diane Lane - Under the Tuscan Sun Samantha Morton - In America If I'm not lazy, I'll do other the other contenders.
Mik Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 The difference is...as a magazine and as reviewers, these people have seen the movies already. We, as common movie ticket buying people, have not. We should wait until we've seen the flicks to pass judgment.

They are speculating just like we are. Besides, everyone is a reviewer when it comes down to it.
razazteca Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Out of all of the movies nominated I have seen maybe 2 of them because the local theater does not show indy films.
Mole Posted November 18, 2003 Author Report Posted November 18, 2003 I was planning on seeing most of the movies of the Oscars this year, but I can't afford it.
godthedog Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 could somebody tell me what the hell was oscar-worthy in the 'kill bill' screenplay?
treble Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Best Actor: Lude Jaw - Cold Mountain You really think he has what it takes?
Guest Choken One Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 If Cuba Gooding Jr can win an oscar...Jude Law can.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Russell Crowe is sounding like one of the best bets right now.
