Eminem a racist?

Eminem found himself on the defensive Tuesday after The Source magazine owners Ray Benzino and Dave Mays held a press conference to play a recording of the MC delivering racial slurs. On the first of two tracks purportedly recorded in 1993, an audibly young Slim Shady raps, "All the girls I like to bone have big butts/ No they don't, 'cause I don't like that nigger shit/ I'm just here to make a bigger hit."

The second track featured Eminem rapping about a black girlfriend he broke up with. "Blacks and whites, they sometimes mix/ But black girls only want your money, 'cause they're dumb chicks," he rhymes. Later in the freestyle Em raps, "Never date a black girl, because blacks only want your money/ And that shit ain't funny."

The first track was only a few lines long, but the second track went on for several minutes with Mathers, seemingly rhyming off the top of his head, repeatedly saying he did not like black girls and that they were only out to get money. Both tracks sounded amateurish, which is no surprise, considering that Eminem was an amateur at the time.

"Don't make this right now a double standard," Benzino said at the press conference. "We gotta treat this the same way you treat Mike Tyson, like you treat Kobe Bryant, like you treat R. Kelly, like you treat O.J. Simpson."

Eminem responded by insisting he isn't racist and explaining that the recording was made when he was young, foolish and angry. "Ray Benzino, Dave Mays and The Source have had a vendetta against me, Shady Records and our artists for a long time," Eminem said in a statement. "The tape they played today was something I made out of anger, stupidity and frustration when I was a teenager. I'd just broken up with my girlfriend, who was African-American, and I reacted like the angry, stupid kid I was. I hope people will take it for the foolishness that it was, not for what somebody is trying to make it into today."

Eminem, 50 Cent and the rest of the Shady/Aftermath team have had a long-running feud with The Source, fueled by Benzino's accusations that the media operate on a double standard when it comes to the multi-platinum white MC and that an artist of color could never get away with saying some of the things Em says in his music.

After their comments, Benzino and Mays refused to entertain questions about the tape and its origins. They did say they plan to include a CD of the Eminem recordings in February's issue, and they promised another press conference concerning Eminem will be held in the future, when they'll answer questions and have civic leaders and members of the hip-hop community.

I think Eminem explained himself well and I believe him. People change. Yes, even superstars!

What did any of these people's public downfalls have to do with racial comments? In all four cases, they allegedly commited CRIMES.

Hearing him say this line, I don't know about you guys, but it makes it seem like a hypocrite.

Em looks to be handling it well, explained it pretty good in my opinion.

plus Benzino just wishes he had half of Em's Talent.

Wasn't Eminem only like 14 in 1993? That's pretty young age.

He explained himself VERY WELL and makes total sense. He's smart, He didn't deny it.

No one will buy him as a racist when he has embraced the Black Culture all his life.

Benzino needs to understand that his obsession with bringing Eminem down just makes him look like a fool.

To go as far as putting a CD in the next Source makes him just look desperate for followers of his "cause."

Ray Benzino...

You are our Jackass Of The Week.

Eminem is about 30 years old maybe 31 his birthday is listed anywhere from 1972-74 but when i was at work and we looked him up in the CVS database he was listed as being born in 1974, so going with that he was likely about 19 or 20 at the time which is the same age i am now and lord knows i say some pretty stupid shit. Being black this shit doesnt really offend me, because i know ive said worse shit about white people and most of my friends are white

Granted I haven't heart Em's retort...

But he has often said he says things just to be offensive. He bashes everyone and anyone because it sells.

And now people are amazed that he did the same thing to black people? Like he can diss women, gays, uh his fans... pop stars... but not black people?

Benzino's problem is that anything that comes out of his mouth is automatically crap regardless of what it is because he's Benzino. He should just tell other people what to say and maybe it would go better.

Benzino is a flat out idiot and this reeks of simply trying to discredit Eminem.

Kudos to Eminem for explaining himself well.

Dames

That's because Eminem speaks so well.

I read this story last night -- what a freaking joke.

I hope Big Media picks this up and there's a whole Eminem-is-a-RACIST discussion...

What's all the fuss about?

I don't like black girls, too.

But that's b/c we have few here in my country.

I dig Beyonce, though she's a little too slim.

I'm sure Eminem will play KKK Grand Wizard in his next Video and beat up Dre and 50 cent.

Seriously, That's the ONLY market he hasn't tried to offend and I could see him doing and STILL going over huge.

Here's a thought.

Why has nobody ever called out a black rapper for talking about how much better black women are to white women?

Oh yeah, I know. BECAUSE IT'S A FUCKING OPINION!

Don't get me wrong. Racism is not a good thing at all. But that's when the cries of racism are legit. Some black men prefer white women to black women too. Are they racist too? Or does that not count?

In this case, the guy is using lyrics from a song that was recorded ten years ago. If you absolutely have to try to bring the man down, at least use something fairly recent so you don't come off looking like a total jackass.

I'm not even an Eminem fan, but any cry of racism that seems unfounded pisses me off.

let's put it this way. black rappers go with white women b/c it's symbol of power to have a white woman.

Of course they prefer to act like stupid monkeys by having a woman that hangs around them b/c they're rich.
