Mik Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Anyone seen it yet, or thinking of seeing? It is getting crucified in the reviews...something like 8% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes (5 positives...ouch!) I just saw it though and thought that while not the greatest movie ever made, it had its moments and wasn't a waste of money. Anybody else catch it?
Guest Anglesault Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 I won't see it because that cat costume scares the Bejesus out of me.
Brocklock Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 I won't see it because that cat costume scares the Bejesus out of me. That and the fact that is the two most annoying child stars in it. They are Dakota Fanning and Spencer Breslin.

Certainly doesn't have alot going for it.
Bruiser Chong Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Any movie with Kelly Preston in it can't be all bad.
AboveAverage484 Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 My paper (Charlotte Observer) gave it one star. Ouch.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 It had it's moments and that was about it. Mike Myers played the role terribly. He basically rehashed all of his personalities into this and when he wasn't doing that he was channeling Austin Powers.
Yuna_Firerose Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 The Ticket in the repository gave it only 1 1/2 out of 5 stars. Which is funny, considering they wrote an article about it. I haven't seen it yet, but from the sound of it....well, it doesn't sound good. I mean, Mike Myers' raunchy humor may work good in movies like Austin Powers, but for a movie like Cat in the Hat? It just doesn't seem like a good mix.
Mik Posted November 22, 2003 Author Report Posted November 22, 2003 Yeah...Mike Myers was kinda "Mike Myers as the Cat" instead of just the Cat. He was being himself in a costume. And you're right about the boy child actor, he's no good, but I love Dakota Fanning. Anybody see her on Letterman the other night? She's adorable! And like I said, the movie had some funny and cute moments. If I had to grade it, it would probably be 2 1/2 out of 5.
chaosrage Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 It looks awful. The cat isn't supposed to have a shitty british accent and be scary looking.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 The cat isn't suppose to be scary? Maybe it's just me, but I always got a dark and demented vibe from him in the book.
The Dames Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 I've never liked that little kid ever since I saw him in the promos for Disney's The Kid. I've said this to my best friend several times. The Cat in the Hat will either make mega money or not much at all. I can't see it being anywhere in the middle. Dames
Slayer Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 And you're right about the boy child actor, he's no good
Guest El Satanico Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 I'd hit it ...dear dark lord...what did i just say
MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 The movie is just a vehicle to sell a bunch of kids toys for Christmas. They toys and stuff will be a big hit even if the movie sucks because they are still associated with the book which is rather popular. Im betting the Lorax will be the next book made into a movie. I dont know why though..
chaosrage Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 The cat isn't suppose to be scary? Maybe it's just me, but I always got a dark and demented vibe from him in the book. You were scared of THIS?

Slayer Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Im betting the Lorax will be the next book made into a movie. I dont know why though.. Something tells me (or maybe it's just hope deep inside) that if this indeed should bomb, combined what happened to Grinch, that Geisel's work will not be touched by Hollywood live-action pundits ever again.
chaosrage Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 I'd like to see Green Eggs and Ham written into a movie...
Guest El Satanico Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 The cat isn't suppose to be scary? Maybe it's just me, but I always got a dark and demented vibe from him in the book. You were scared of THIS? "scared" no, but I didn't find him to be a lovable friendly thing. There's dark currents brewing behind that smile.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Green Eggs and Ham could be made into a movie but they would need to drag it out a lot and add some sort of extra story to it or something. For what its worth, I thought that the Grinch was a decent movie. But thats just me..
chaosrage Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Look at that picture vs WTF?? ::gouges eyes out::
The Kid Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 I agree with every statement in this topic except "I'd hit it", which I cannot bring myself to agree with. This movie looks like total shit and that cat has already given me nightmares.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 I think they should take a lot of the stories like Green Eggs and Ham and just make a movie that's a collection of the stories. That way you don't have to ruin it by adding enough content to make it 90 minutes.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Regardless of the version, I see unrelenting evil. Maybe I'm just twisted, but I see a dark side in much of Suess' work.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Actually the Lorax is the next Seuss movie I want to see.
Nighthawk Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Maybe I'm just twisted, but I see a dark side in much of Suess' work. I agree, but it's a fun dark side.
Tawren Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 After seeing Hollywood butcher Seuss' Grinch, I am never going to see this movie.
