Bored Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 I try to avoid posting "news" topics but I felt this would create an interesting thread: Many in WWE are also confused over how WWE is using Rey Mysterio. Mysterio was a big merchandise seller and was thought to have "special" charisma not too long ago. Interestingly enough, some feel that Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar used their political power to keep Mysterio down, and that Angle and Lesnar have become more "dominant" towards their spots on Smackdown. Bruiser Chong Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Not surprising. As much love as there is for the pair, it was only a matter of time before they started in with the political games. Everyone does it eventually if they get into a position that could become risked at any moment. We bust Trips for it just because it seems like he was always doing something in that respect, but he wasn't the first or the last to do it. Brock has always thought he was hot shit since his monster push went into effect last year and with Angle's health being so uncertain these days, it's only natural that he feel his spot is at risk. That said, I don't think they should see Rey as any sort of a threat to their own spots. I don't care how many shirts he sells or how popular he is, he's not ever going to be a main event guy.
The Decemberists Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 They've no need to worry. He's no hoss, is he?
Mecha Mummy Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 I love Rey, but in a fed like WWE it's hard to buy him as anything more than an uppercarder at best. Brock and Kurt are wasting their time if they are holding him down.
AndrewTS Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Mysterio was a big merchandise seller and was thought to have "special" charisma not too long ago. What does that mean? Interestingly enough, some feel that Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar used their political power to keep Mysterio down Okay...sure. "Some" may also feel that Vince is responsible. There's nothing as overt as HHH's games going on, but sucks to hear this if it is true. Angle won't be around much longer I don't think, but if Brock pulls politics it could be a problem since he'll be around a long time. , and that Angle and Lesnar have become more "dominant" towards their spots on Smackdown. That's a rather awkward wording there.
Guest RollingSambos Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 This is from Wade Keller, so you know it's bullshit. Never believe anything that you read in the Torch. Keller is the worst. I guess he didn't learn his lesson after his OVW lie.
Guest Choken One Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Even so...It's slowly becoming a fact that Angle is becoming HBK right in our very eyes... I.E still putting on a good show but manipulating everything he can (which is different then what Hogan and H3 do)
1234-5678 Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Excuse me, I have to go file this under "Don't Give A Rat's Ass." BRB.
Youth N Asia Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 I like Rey, but this kind of thing doesn't bother me as much as it should. Once you get yourself to a main event status based on your work I don't mind if they do stuff like this. As long as they're consistantly working good matches and stay way over. HHH...I didn't mind his backstage BS from 99-01 cause he was over huge and his matches were very good. He was fun to watch. However post injury HHH isn't half as over as he use to be and the matches are nowhere near as good...so now it bugs me a little. my $0.02
Guest Ghettoman Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 God the internet is fecking hilarious.....
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Think about this, why would they care? Does anyone really think that Rey is a threat to Brock or Kurt's position on the card? I highly doubt it. God knows Vince would NEVER and I mean NEVER push a cruiser to the ME level no matter what. So all I can say is Wade, kiss your credibility (or what very little is left of it) goodbye.
Ultra Violence Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 God knows Vince would NEVER and I mean NEVER push a cruiser to the ME level no matter what. Michaels........ Jericho......
Spaceman Spiff Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 This was touched on in this thread I don't buy it. Rey, with the exception of when he first came in, has never been booked as a ME guy, so why would Brock & Angle be working to hold him down? If it was Cena or Benoit or Eddy, rather than Rey, then there might be something to it. But Rey? I don't buy it.
Spaceman Spiff Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 God knows Vince would NEVER and I mean NEVER push a cruiser to the ME level no matter what. Michaels........ Jericho...... Neither were portrayed as "cruisers" in the WWE, like Rey has always been.
Guest hunger4unger Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 I think it's a bullshit story. Whilst Angle has some clout within the company, for my mind he's not that kind of person to exercise it to keep Mysterio down. It makes no sense for Lesnar to "hold back" Mysterio as he is a heel and Mysterio is a face - there's no spot to protect. If anything it would benefit Lesnar to have Mysterio over and working with him. The fact is, is that Mysterio will never be a main eventer due to his size and style of wrestling. As entertaining that he is, he doesn't work the "main event" style.
CanadianChris Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 We bust Trips for it just because it seems like he was always doing something in that respect, but he wasn't the first or the last to do it. I thought we busted Trip for it because he can't back it up in the ring anymore. No one said a bad word about him before the quad injury.
Damaramu Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 *smacks forehead* Well if it becomes like HHH where we hear a story on it every day and see evidence backing it up on TV...then I'll prepare to bust there balls.
OldSchoolWrestling Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 I think that the jist of this is not that Rey is going to take their spot in the title picture. Its that he was getting too popular and they didn't like it. They want the focus on them. Its like in WCW when they didn't like the cruiserweights stealing the show from the slow, lumbering heavyweights. If they keep pushing Rey, he'll get all the face heat, and then when they come out the wrestle the crowd not be as into it as with Rey's match.
haVoc Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 I'm sure it was Angle and Brock who feed Rey to A-Train all those times and not Vince.
Guest Choken One Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 what did rolling sambos do to get banned?
Open the Muggy Gate Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Nah... it was Vince. Brock was still that rookie in many people's eyes at that time.
Guest Choken One Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 "THAT ROOKIE" No. He was Vince's Chosen Breed. RIGHT. FROM. THE. START.
Damaramu Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 what did rolling sambos do to get banned? Good question. Maybe a mod thought he was trolling.
Guest Choken One Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 If he was "TROLLING"...I would have been gone long time ago.
Damaramu Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 If he was "TROLLING"...I would have been gone long time ago. Well then I don't know. Make a post about it in Site Feedback...
