Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted November 29, 2003 I tend to wonder whether or not the people who've picked Jericho vs HBK as their MOTY have seen Benoit vs Angle from the Rumble. I think it's because the difference in actual match quality is negligible, and the two storylines (Y2J wants to show he's better, HBK doesn't want his career to be ended) and three months of feuding going into that match make it seem a bit more important than the RR match that felt like the build-up was written on a napkin. Ok, I'll give you the storyline for Jericho/HBK was better but to say that the match quality is "negligable" is an insult to Benoit and Angle. Every single aspect of the match, better then anything Jericho and Michaels did.
Guest Fook Report post Posted November 29, 2003 MVP of the year: Eddie Guerrero Eddie completely stepped up this year, having great matches with pretty much everybody and connecting with the crowd like no one's done since Austin or Rock. It's a shame he's been pushed back to the tag division. Match of the year: Benoit/Angle RR Wasn't much competition here, at least not in the wwe. Raw wrestler of the year: Chris Jericho No contest here. Jericho is the total package and I think has finally recovered from his 2002 burial. Smackdown wrestler of the year: Eddie Guerrero It's pretty much between Eddie and Cena, but Eddie's been more consistent and has been over for more than a couple of months. We have yet to see whether Cena can fully adjust to being a face. Rookie of the year: Sheldon Benjamin (I don't consider Cena a rookie) I prefer Benjamin to Haas. His look is better and pulls off his moves more crisply. I see main events for him by the end of 2005. Tag team of the year: TWGTT Not really much of a choice. The only competition would be Los Guerreros, but Eddie's pushed more as a singles wrestler than a tag. Feud of the year: Jericho vs HBK They put on great matches and promos as well as an interesting storyline consisting of their backgrounds as a wrestler. Plus, it actually went on for over two months. PPV of the year: WM19 The top ppv of the year (in kayfabe terms) happened to have enough good matches (Angle/Lesnar, HBK/Jericho) and drama (McMahon/Hogan) to please the smark crowd. Storyline of the year: Jericho/Trish romance They have great chemistry together and can pull off their lines convincingly. Plus, they're CANADIAN! Announcer of the year: Tazz Process of elimination here. He's the only tolerable one. Plus, I like his "keys to victory" that he does sometimes.

I agree that Benoit/Angle was the better "match" quality wise but There's something as a Long time HBK mark and current Jericho mark watching those two go at it in a very good match. It was my personal Hogan/Rock. The emotional drive that match put me through was more trying then Angle/Benoit was.

I'll Go HHH/Goldberg by default, just cos Goldberg's managed to keep the belt away from him, and he's entertained me in the process. I can't believe it either. DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2003 I'd say Test. Not only have his ring skills improved in the last 12 months, but he's displayed a previously unseen side to his character by being a super-asshole. He's thus become much more entertaining to watch than he was this time last year, not just in the ring, but also in backstage segments and on the mic

Guest Ray Report post Posted November 29, 2003 I need to rewatch Angle/Benoit, to find a dozen reasons why it isn't light-years-ahead-of everything-else-holy-shit-*****-OMG-no-match-can-touch-it! I certainly didn't have that reaction when I first watched it. What is the big deal with this match?

No one feud this year was something I liked totally. Lesnar/Angle has length (January to now) but that feud was one of the largest trainwreck feuds of recent memory. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2003 When did Matt start using the Version 1.0 Gimmick? If it was from a year ago then I'd say he's most improved because before that he was just Jeff's brother. If not, i'd say Big Show.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2003 Most improved I would have to go with Taker. Nobody overwhelmed me with their improvment this year, so I'll just go with Taker. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year, there would have been a good Taker/Angle match with more of it having to do with Taker I wouldn't have believed that. So in this weak field, one month gives Taker the MIW. Also, just want to throw my hat in the ring as one of those who wonder how Cena is a rookie. He was around for six months last year. That is a little too much to be considered a rookie again. Figure by this year, they had already been able to dump his ruthless agression rookie character, move him into the hip hop character, and give him his own posse. That is too much of a head start compared to other rookies like Haas and Benjamin who showed up in the last two weeks of the year.

clean rob 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2003 I can understand people calling Taker or Hardy most improved this past year, as they've both put on much better matches in the last 12 months than previously, but just take a long, painful look at any of Big Show's matches about 18 months ago. He was SHIT. Appallingly so. Now - my god - he's fairly competent! No-one has made anything close to the relative improvement that he has. Oh, and Ray - the big deal about Angle/Benoit was that it was the best match in WWE this year. That's pretty much it.

IIRC, he started it after he jumped to SD last October, so the gimmick's over a year old.
