Fox takes 'Wanda' series off the air

By Cynthia Littleton

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Fox Broadcasting Co. has pulled the plug on "Wanda at Large," a sitcom starring Wanda Sykes as a comic who lands a gig as an outspoken commentator on a local TV show in Washington.

The series had a promising start as a midseason entry in March in the Wednesday 9:30 p.m. slot behind "The Bernie Mac Show." But it hit a ratings wall after a moving to 8 p.m. Fridays this fall. In its last airing on Nov. 7, "Wanda" averaged a mere 3.8 million viewers.

Fox canceled "Wanda's" 8:30 p.m. companion, freshman sitcom "Luis" in October. The network has filled its holes on Friday in recent weeks with movies and specials. Fox declined comment Thursday.

Good. I really couldn't stand that woman and her voice.

Did Fox cancel Oliver Beene also?

No, it's a midseason replacement.

Well, thanks for ruining my night.

Oliver Beene is a cheap copy of the Wonder Years.......only without actually being, you know, good.

I'm still replaying Cosby getting in a good line on her at the Emmy's.

What did he tell her?

She was doing interviews in the crowd, and she was talking to Larry David, who was seated near Cosby, mentioning that Curb Your Enthusiasm was unscripted, and then she turned to Cosby, and said "The Cosby Show was always scripted, right?" and he said "Yes, we spoke English". I'm not really sure if it was directed to Wanda or not, since I remember reading somewhere on the net that he may have been referring to the amount of profanity found in Curb Your Enthusiasm.

We're racist if we don't find her funny? Wow. Personally I never figured out why I was supposed to like her. Wow she acts like a total bitch, I should laugh!!!

Wanda can be funny at times. She's made me laugh during a couple of those Chris Rock movies and during her appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm. But her show was just awful and I'm glad it was cancelled.

She just won a "Commie" last night for best female TV comedy performance.

I won't say anyone's necessarily racist around here or at the TV networks, but I will say that Black shows get a much shorter leash than White shows.

Anyone notice the ratio of White Football Players getting on air roles is HUGE compared to African Americans

Daryl Johnson

Cris Collinsworth

Troy Aikman

and a Ton of others over at fox

What black guys do they have? James Brown and that sideline reporter who hosts Under the helmet....

I found her funny, personally. Not the greatest female standup, but certainly not so horrible like a lot of you are making her sound.

You're right. She's worse.
