Vanhalen 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 Its always funny when an announcer tries to ignore the crowd, or calls it a "mixed reaction", examples im thinking off are Steiner/HHH Royal Rumble 03, Rock/Hogan WM18 and The Great American Bash *We Want Flair*, whats been the funniest examples from WWE? Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 Yeah. JR almost seemed mad at the crowd for Rock/Hogan. It was about 90/10 Hogan to start the match. JR: "A very split crowd, King." Hogan was whipping the shit out of Rock with the belt...the crowd went nuts. The Rock started whipping Hogan, the fans booed. And JR's yelling about how Hogan did it first and it's only even now. I was half expecting him to pull his "GAWDDAMN YOUR BLACK HEARTS!" bit on the crowd
Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 Back during the NWO peak in '97, when Hall would do the survey "Did you come to see... Dubya-C-Dubya...? ...or did you come to see the N...W...O...?" If the crowd was pro-WCW, the announcers would play it up bigtime, but if it was a pro-NWO crowd, they'd either no-sell it or write it off

Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 Heel Taker was running wild in 2002 and they had just showed a video package of some of the dastardly deeds the he had comitted, and they went backstage for an interview with him and the crowd popped HUGE when he appeared to which the Coach replied....... "Well, it's quite obvious you're not a fan favorite." It was really hard to get Taker over as a heel that year, and when they finally did, they turned him back. EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 It was really hard to get Taker over as a heel that year, and when they finally did, they turned him back. Yeah I bet JR really loved that him getting his faced shoved into Vince's ass by UT to help turn him didn't do jackshit overall to turn UT heel.
Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 It took about a month of Taker victimizing the Hardyz, Hogan, and random jobbers before he actually started getting booed. Then, he started the "mutual respect" angle which turned him face.

Then, he started the "mutual respect" angle which turned him face. Wasn't it around that time he was heelish on Raw, but a face on Smackdown? Keeping in mind that this is when the WWE Champ could still go to either show.

Yeah I bet JR really loved that him getting his faced shoved into Vince's ass by UT to help turn him didn't do jackshit overall to turn UT heel. It's so stupid how they continually use performers that nobody gives two shits about to help a heel turn. Another example would be Stone Cold kicking the shit out of Michael Cole. Most of the crowd would have liked to have done it themselves so it's not like it got Austin any hatred.

Keeping in mind that this is when the WWE Champ could still go to either show. I remember it was around that time when he wrestled still-babyface-Orton for the WWE Title (oh God no...). Taker was a heel as far as i was aware, but started off respecting the people and the town, then respected Orton and his family, showed him respect in the ring and shook his hand first without playing any dirty tricks, then beat him and I believe shook his hand afterwards. The week after I think he was back in heel mode. Completely bizarre.

Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted December 9, 2003 One of my faves is when RVD first showed up and immediately started getting huge "RVD" chants. JR: That ECW fan contigency! Theres not very many of them at all but they're a very vocal bunch *Camera shows whole crowd chanting and doing RVD pointing taunt* What a piece of garbage that Van Dam is! He doesn't care about our fans! *RVD acknowledges fans* Damn his black soul!"
Toshiaki Koala 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 Crowd: "VINCE IS A FAG! VINCE IS A FAG!" King: Can you hear what those people are saying? Jr: It sounds like they're chanting "Vince is dead"
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 Speaking of...Wrestlecrap did a bit on the infamous Tank vs Big Al Skins match. Where Tank puts a knife to his throat and says "I could fucking kill you." Which is followed up with. Tank Abbot: "I could FUCKING KILL YOU!" Mark Madden: "He's gonna skin him, I think! Does he have a knife to his throat?" Tony Schiavone: "I think maybe that was a pair of scissors. He was going to cut of his beard or something there." DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2003 Loved it at InVasion when Kidman faced X-Pac. JR told us that normally X-Pac would be booed by the fans, but here he could expect support from the partisan WWF crowd. At this point, X-Pac grabs Kidman's WCW Cruiserweight title and raises it above his head to a muted reaction. One minute later, an "X-Pac sucks" chant broke out. By the end of the match, the man the WWF fans were expected to cheer had done the impossible- he got the fans rooting for Kidman (maybe the most over Kidman has been in his entire WWF career)

Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2003 When Austin won his sixth World Title back from Angle after the two-week hiatus, people popped loudly for Austin after he pinned Angle, even with Regal's interference. You could visually see and also hear most of the fans cheering for Austin with the (then) WWF Title, while J.R. has a coronary exclaiming "Damnit, this crowd is livid! They cannot beLIEVE it!". Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted December 10, 2003 The same happened at No Mercy '02 a few weeks later. Austin won and they showed Vince at ringside in disbelief yet right behind him there were fans in the front row clearly pleased at what they were seeing. jester 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2003 This isn't about announcers, but remember Rock's pre-recorded speech at Raw X? Rock babbled on like a beloved face while the crowd chanted "Boring," "Rocky sucks" and "turn it off." Meanwhile, poor Jericho had to interact with the damn thing like a heel getting owned by the cool face, like a chump. Jericho could have gotten himself a massive pop if he'd started shooting at that damn thing.
Guest Max Peter David Report post Posted December 11, 2003 At Vengeance, despite the fact that Benoit was the face, Michael Cole kept saying, 'The crowd solidly behind Eddie Guerrero.' When they were clearly chanting 'Benoit'.

Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2003 WM X-7, Austin/Rock, the crowd was FANATICALLY pro-Austin. Well, JR said kept babbling about "This BI-PARTISAN~! Texas crowd solidly behind Austin!" so I think the announcers called it fairly that time. Towards the end however, when Rock began to kick out of everything Austin did, people started cheering for The Rock a bit.
