Saddam possibly captured

And in trying to defend yourself you just further prove his point. If something is poor it must get the "liberal" adjective added on to it.

Good point, and I edited my comment at the same time you were writing yours.

So, how do they know it's Hussein?

Didn't he have at least half a dozen look-alikes to do his public engagements?

DNA test I presume but you do raise a great point. I liked how they got the DNA sample too - by violating the Geneva convention. Filming a prisoner and ridiculing him (by filming him, by showing where he was caught, by taking the swab on TV) is against the convention. There again, when did the US ever give a crap about that? (See Camp X-Ray)

Was that from the capture of Saddam or Saddam himself?

Ok, I overracted, shouldn't have attacked you. I left myself wide-open for that comeback.

Heh. No problem. Just messing around. :)

Saddam isn't a prisoner of war, he's most likely going to be tried as a simple private citizen who committed a whole lot of sickening crimes. And since the US never declared way on Iraq, the Geneva convention rules kinda don't apply anyway.

Given that the US was complaining about Geneva Convention violations with regards to video footage the Iraqis were showing, they must apply regardless of whether or not some official declaration of war was made.

That's that cleared up then. We can have a Saddam tour then where we put him in a glass cell and can go see him/get our photo taken with him for a small fee. It'll help to pay to rebuild Iraq, especially if Pepsi or Microsoft sponsor the tour! ;)

But what's to stop one of the look-alikes, or at least Saddams supporters, from coming out on Iraqi TV and saying "I'm Saddam! The US captured one of my look-alikes and lied about it being me! Now build me a palace and die in my name"? That's what I'd do in that position. They have a chance to lead a nation.

As for the comment regarding the voting - i'm not sure what sparked your immature attack. I suggest you do a little research on what happened during the last US election, especially on what happened during the count.

Give it a rest. The Bush stole the election shit got tired by the Spring of 01. Here's a clue; the Supreme Court shut down the Florida courts creating laws out of thin air and people trying to guess the whims of the voters. Not to mention that people continually gloss over the fact that those counties always have a high ratio of voting fuck ups.

I don't believe that there were any WMD's when the Invasion Of Iraq was launched. Let's not forget who sold him various weapons in the first place.

Ah, glorious irrelevancy. I am sure there are LESS relevant points to be made --- but I shudder to imagine them.

Whilst Saddam must stand trial and receive punishment for his horrible crimes against his own people, I don't think it is fair for him to be tried by a court consisting of an Iraqi judge and jury (as reported) as they are bound to have a biased view, therefore it not being a fair trial. He should be tried in an international court of law.

You mean Saddam should be tried by people he owes A LOT of money to? Yeah, THAT sounds impartial.

A point I would like to raise is how many 'blackmail bombers' will come out of the woodwork, for example "release Saddam or I blow up this building".

Who cares? They'll be dealt with.

The situation over there is hugely complicated and to be blunt, a mess.

As for anyone voting for Bush next year - I wouldn't bother the fix is already in!

Ah, "the fix" --- that deep, intricate gov't conspiracy that journalists can't seem to unravel but some anonymous little dude on a wrestling message board has figured out?

I laugh at you presently.

Yeah, Bush won. Cleanly.

I am hoping the Dems keep harping on it. Nothing gets votes like angry, bitter people griping about non-issues from 4 years prior.

You mean from the corpses of his dead sons? Wasn't aware that that consitutes a violation --- but to paraphrase the President, "Oops, better call my lawyer"

Filming a prisoner and ridiculing him (by filming him, by showing where he was caught, by taking the swab on TV) is against the convention.

A medical exam is "ridiculing"? And showing where he was caught hardly constitutes a violation. Man, my heart BLEEDS for poor ol' Uncle Saddam.

There again, when did the US ever give a crap about that? (See Camp X-Ray)

Care to explain what the heck you mean? I doubt you know, either.

He's not? Then what is he then?

Forgot all about that. We never declared war on them. Thus, he isn't a prisoner of war. He's just an evil individual.

I did the research and made a startling conclusion.

Never leave your presidential candidacy in the hands of a bunch of far-sighted Jews and illiterate Haitians.

Personally, I don’t mind the Bush-hating – after all, Clinton had his share of rabid foes and ol’ Bill didn’t do too bad when it came to his re-election efforts.

So keep churning out all those “President-select LOL2000” jokes – when Bush gets elected to a second term you can then grumble about how you spent all your time bitter about the 2000 Election that Election 2004 passed you right on by...

Terrorists aren't a threat to the U.S?

Man, you learned nothing from 9/11, did you?

It seems most of these men have absolutely nothing to do with Saddam Hussein. They're poorly organized and are far from Al-Qaeda standards. Direct threat, my ass.

Wow.

This thread has REALLY brought out the bitterness in you.

That's bullshit. I'm part of "the Left" and I haven't said one negative thing in this thread.

Yes, that's not fair - many on the left, perhaps most, are pleased with Saddam's capture.

So, perhaps amend your remark to "the far left"?

It's no use, guys. Anything or anyone politically moderate on this board is ferociously attacked by the far-right as they would be on a far-left board. For people like me, you just can't win.

Yeah, I gotta say...fellow lefties, even extremists: Give it a rest. I mean, we spend so much time being angry and hell, so do conservatives, but a very evil man has been captured. Both sides of the spectrum should rejoice, because a truely sick person is now no longer at large.

Let's come together and be pleased about it.

There are good conservative posters here. We have a healthy mix of both liberals and conservatives (as DrTom said).
