Astro101 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 More angle based show than matches, but it's ok because I loved Ultimate X. I was expecting a few blown spots, but everything went smooth. I was praying that Sabin would get the belt down, otherwise it would've looked ridiculous with him falling without it and trying to get back up and grab the belt. Looks like they secured it with electrical tape.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted January 8, 2004 <<<Predicted Sandman as Ravens partner
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Sabin won!! hell yeah... but i really wanted Daniels to win... oh well The Daniels/Low Ki has the potential to produce such great matches that the feud doesn't even need a title, and with the way it looks, the backside to the whole thing will be Elix Skipper wanting to reform XXX. The X Title would just get in the way.
Guest JacK Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Someone should really point out to them that a 'suprise' partner is only a suprise if they haven't already been a 'suprise' partner to the same person (at least once, though it may be more unless I'm very much mistaken). Deep down, I knew it would be Sandman, but I was hoping for someone like, like Dreamer or ANYONE really. Maybe a New Church guy, or, or Alter Boy Luke . . . or hell some kid from the 7th row, anything as long as it's a suprise. And do'h'eth, I thought Daniels would win. Dagnamit. RedJed 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 My main beef with the show was soooo much talking and so much Jarrett. There really shouldnt be that much talking (at least when it goes nowhere) when people pay 10 bucks a week for this. The stuff at the beginning with Jarrett and Kash, and then the stuff in the ring with the same guys and Watts, that took up almost a half hour which is asanine (sp). And then to end it with Jarrett saying nothing really significant, well whats up with that. I'm scared to find out who that mystery guy is who attacked Jarrett, and I was kind of pissed that they did a stupid excuse for Jarrett getting out of his title shot. Logically, shouldnt he be stripped like it was stated before the end of the year if he didnt defend it within 30 days? Ultimate X 2 and the six man were good, but especially with X2, I expected more at least it terms of time. To have only 13 minutes reserved for that match is a slap in the face of the wrestlers and the fans if you ask me. The rest of the matches, blah. I think Sandman will still turn on Raven in this storyline though. But I wish it would just be Punk v. Raven feuding, all of these sidelines like Mitchell brought back to feud with him is redundant. I'm still trying to figure out as well why a guy like Lynn still isnt back, and a guy like DLo wasnt even used at all last night. Definiately didnt live to the expectations I gave the show, which were kind of high given the fact that they had 3 weeks to fine tune this show. One thing that caught my attention was the AAA/IWA PR stuff, and if that ends up happening, I'm all for it.

Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted January 8, 2004 I enjoyed the show, but i was expecting more so I was a bit disapointed. Not saying the show was bad, I was just thinking they would bust all the A-Game stuff for the first show of the new year, and it really didn't seem that they did. Oh well. UX2 was good, and the belt was held up TO well. I found that funny. I'm glad Sabin won. I was pissed that it was sandman, but the angle should heat up a bit now, as long as it stays Punk Raven, not Mitchell Raven...
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 See, with the last three months of 2003 being what I'd call "pure fucking shit" in terms of product quality, last night's show was a blast for me. I have to postpone my review until tomorrow afternoon, as I'll barely have time to get the first half of the show done (since I'll just sum up the first HALF HOUR of promo's with a paragraph, if that). I have to finish a short film for Creative, and then have a few bits of homework for English to finish up, so I'll be cutting it close anyways (not to mention I need to start up an RP for an e-fed I'm in, HiC). So yeah. It won't be as good as the Dames Diatribe, but it'll probably be a lot more cynical and filled with more sophomoric humor.
slimm44 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Last night's show was great. The crowd was into it the entire night. The Kid Kash segment where he got the timekeeper to sign the petition was very intense. After Kash slapped him, all these old women started swearing and picking up chairs. It was crazy. I don't know if it was seen on tv but when Low Ki and Daniels went over the top rope, Low Ki landed and Jeremy Borash tripped trying to move out of the way. He was down for a minute but got back up and was fine. Good way to begin 2004 in my opinion
Guest BrokenWings Report post Posted January 9, 2004 A rather lackluster show, in my opinion. I can't stand Sandman, and I'd predicted beforehand he'd be the 'suprise'. UX2 was great, the enzuiguri off the chair was amazing, as was the dragon clutch from the X. What's the identity of that masked wrestler who came out and attacked Jarrett, anyone know?
Jack_Bauer 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 Well, I guess that UX2 was better than people were expecting. I really didn't see that one coming *sarcasm there*
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 Well, considering that UX1 was a pretty big disappointment (because Kazarian was the focus and he's the definition of "vanilla," and Michael Shane did nothing but bleed and lie down on the outside), I don't think we were wrong to doubt UX2. You have an audience trained to ignore your lack of star power in favour of high quality wrestling. One good fifteen minute match over two hours is not the road to success. You have an audience trained to ignore your lack of star power in favour of high quality wrestling. One good fifteen minute match over two hours is not the road to success. The problem, I think, is that while they KNOW this is what their audience wants, they are also desprately trying to get a TV deal, to legitimize themselves as true competition for WWE, and to do that, they feel they need to somewhat follow the "sports entertainment" format, since that's what mainstream fans/TV people know. Even though the quality of the show would improve dramatically if Watts/Callis stopped trying to be Bichoff/Austin and Jarrett stopped trying to be HHH (on screen I mean!) Guest MikeSC Report post Posted January 9, 2004 For those curious, in his TNA recap, Dave Meltzer says the guy under the mask was Apollo. NOOOO!!! Now it's time for IWA to invade and we get Apollo v. Abyss! I didn't have a beef with Apolo in his first TNA stint (OK, I only had the first two eps on tape, but still). He seemed solid enough in the ring. What I don't get is this --- if Raven books his own stuff, WHY DOES HE KEEP DOING THE SAME POINTLESS ANGLES WITH JIM MITCHELL? It makes no damned sense to me. Raven finishes his program with Mitchell --- then turns around and starts a WHOLE NEW ONE WITH HIM? And, are 3LK now the worst tag champs in America? Absolute crap in the ring. A group of three with only one competent worker is real bad. Why not hotshot the belts to a decent young tandem (D-Lo and somebody would work wonders) and further the split with Gilbertti? -=Mike
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 Eh...3LK are up there. BG and Truth don't do TAG wrestling, but rather just tag one another in and let 'em go at it singles-style. BG sucks in the ring, but is decent on the mic, and has charisma. Ditto for Konnan. Truth is the best worker of the bunch, but I'd rather a 3LK match than a Bashams match. At least Truth doesn't look like an S&M freak with only a few basic moves in his repertoire.

Styles 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2004 Thank god we now have a spokesperson for CM Punk. Oh, shutup already. He got to cut 2 promos at last week's show. Ever think that maybe, the Nashville fans (and many in PPV land) aren't familiar with Punk's other work (I know, SHOCKING, that not everyone has heard of ring of honor), but are familiar with Sinister Minister from his past TNA work managing heels, thus in their eyes it gives Punk and Julio further legitimacy in their eyes through association? Oh, and I'm sure it's completely out of the realm that Raven requested for his good friend whom he enjoys working with to be involved in the storyline... Oh, and I'm sure it's completely out of the realm that Raven requested for his good friend whom he enjoys working with to be involved in the storyline... Plus they have to use Punk differently than they do in ROH. There is no way that in a feud with Raven that he will be able to brag and boast about him being straight edge. Because by doing this they would be publically admitting that there is talent there on drugs. In turn this will never happen.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2004 My review should be uploaded at my site around midnight. I only have the Ultimate X 2 to finish reviewing. WARNING: It's not NEARLY as good as a Diatribe, and it shows that I'm new to reviewing, but if you dug my PBP for the 12/3/03 show, you should dig this. Michrome 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2004 It's still dumbfounding that he didn't get a major in-ring promo segment to explain himself after his turn was the major thing of the last show. The guy has the best mic skills in the U.S. right now outside of The Rock, and they're giving him a damn manager. The Raven-Punk feud has clearly been established as second to the Raven-Jim Mitchell feud, which is pathetic. I can't wait for 2 months from now when the big blowoff to this whole thing is another Raven-Jim Mitchell match, and Punk/Dinero are jobbing in 4 minute openers. Punk in TNA: Virtual jobber in Xplosion tag team that has only seen main event level exposure as Raven's lackey. GET OVER IT! They're actually pushing him now, and you're pissed that they're not instantly making him the focus of the show (LOLTRIPLEJARRET2004 save it). Give it due time and stop looking for reasons to complain. He wouldn't even be GETTING this feud if Raven didn't request it, and Raven likely requested his friend Mitchell be involved too, so get off unless you want to accuse Raven of somehow holding him down which would be mindblowingly ridiculous... Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2004 Just posted my review of the show online. Check the thread. +1 But, to stay on-topic, uhhh...Michrome, the feud just started, and CM Punk is nothing but an undercarder in TNA, so they're aligning him with a well-known heel manager that has some history with Raven. Oh, and I've seen some of these CM Punk promo's, and he's not even CLOSE to being in the top 10 promo guys that are currently active.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2004 That's pretty much a laughable statement. Check out the Wrestlerave one, by far the promo of the year. His promo at 8/16 was amazing, and the one on Funk at 9/20 was sick too. He takes crowds unwilling to boo heels and makes them boo the everloving shit out of him just with promos. He doesn't cheat or pull bullshit, his character alone gains heat. He carried Raven's worthless ass to feud of the year in RoH, with amazing promo show after show while Raven contributed jack shit in terms of mic-work and wrestling. The way to push him isn't by aligning him with some manager to speak for him. The fact that he's an undercarder is a moot point because the morons at TNA put him in that position. OK, so he's an undercarder right now...what does that prove other than the fact that the people running TNA have their heads up their ass? I'm not implying Raven is holding Punk down, but if Raven is going to be inserting friends into all of his feuds, then he should lose creative control over his programs. I don't pay 10 bucks to see Raven play with his friends. What TNA (and you) don't seem to get is that the fans have to have an emotional connection with characters to care about their matches. It does nothing for CM Punk if he gets booed because Mitchell is his manager, just like it did nothing for Test getting cheered because Stacy was his valet. When said manager leaves, what's left? Why oh why was the crowd so silent for the first match of this feud after a major turn on the last show? Partly because the TNA crowds are always dead lately, but also because Punk and Dinero have been treated as complete jobbers and aren't going to be taken seriously unless they're given a chance to develop characters. Acting as hired assasins of some sort is not going to do it.
Guest TDinDC1112 Report post Posted January 10, 2004 So eventhough Punk has been a borderline jobber in TNA, he should get mic time right now and be considered a main eventer based on his outside TNA work, but everyone thought it was crazy when Lo Ki and Homicide were getting a main event on an MLW show?
