snuffbox Posted January 18, 2004 Report Posted January 18, 2004 I will be seeing Soil/3DaysGrace/Staind on feb 6. Im not a particulary big fan of any of them, but i am going with a female friend. Anybody seen any of these bands live? Any ideas what ill be seein? The show Im most looking forward to is NEIL FUCKING YOUNG with CrazyHorse on march2. Im pretty geeked for this one! Anybody here ever get to see Neil live before?
Corey_Lazarus Posted January 18, 2004 Report Posted January 18, 2004 I've seen Soil live when they opened for the Merry Mayhem '01 tour. They're decent at best. Expect nothing but generic nu-metal. Staind is AWFUL live. AWFUL. Not only do they fucking suck on the album, but they're FIVE TIMES WORSE live. Aaron Lewis does nothing but hold his gut like he's about to spew and then he does...well, spews forth incessant whining about his dad never giving him a pony, or something. The only band more boring than Staind live is Mudvayne.
k thx Posted January 18, 2004 Report Posted January 18, 2004 I caught a bit of Staind live at Reading last year, but only because I wanted to get there early for The Darkness. Awful, awful stuff.
cbacon Posted January 18, 2004 Report Posted January 18, 2004 Im not sure about live, but 3 Days Grace are a black eye on Canadian music.
Red Baron Posted January 18, 2004 Report Posted January 18, 2004 Mudvayne is worse than Staind? I mean both are bad, but lets not come to conclusions. Back on topic: Do you expect to get any, after being forced to go through this torture?
Henry Spencer Posted January 18, 2004 Report Posted January 18, 2004 I haven't seen Neil Young live, but if his Live Rust album is any indication, he's godly live.
snuffbox Posted January 18, 2004 Author Report Posted January 18, 2004 i saw mudvayne live twice back in the day, the summer before ld50 was released. i thought they performed like hot pink vagina. or, i thought they were good. no idea what theyre like now. redbaron - of course
spiny norman Posted January 18, 2004 Report Posted January 18, 2004 Neil Young recently performed in my area and received terrible reviews. Perhaps it was a one off bad show, but he was not very well received by the reports that I heard. At any rate, I'm going to Bowie February 21st. Bowie > all others mentioned combined.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 At any rate, I'm going to Bowie February 21st. Bowie > all others mentioned combined. So very, very true.
NoCalMike Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 I don't understand the new obsession with the masses to pay HUGE money to see acts 25+ years beyond their prime. I could see if tickets were cheap. I saw Robbie Krieger of The Doors in a club for $15, but trying to contemplate paying $50+ to see him in an arena has got me LOL.
spiny norman Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 It's because those who are in their prime just aren't of the same quality musically. As live performers they too don't seem to be as into it as those older groups. Part of that would be due to the fact that the older groups have better experience than those who are new, but I'd say it also has to do with the music is more important to their generation than to the generation of current artists. The best act I've ever seen live is Prince though, so my opinion may not be the best to hear.
Sonic Reducer Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 Neil Young will be a good show. I'm waiting to see Pearl Jam live this spring when they do their little 10 date tour. I'm also hoping that The Mars Volta opens for A Perfect Circle in Chicago on April 16th. That would rock ass. And I'll surely be seeing the Pixies if they tour.
Matt Young Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 Although I'm not a big fan of Mudvayne, I think they are above average live. I saw them play once in Peoria, Illinois (the city they originated from) a few years ago and they were at least energetic and into the performance.
DCMaximo Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 I caught a bit of Staind live at Reading last year, but only because I wanted to get there early for The Darkness. Awful, awful stuff. Dude, I was in the same boat, except I got there early enough to see their entire dreadful set. It was quite funny though, they performed some dreadful grunge-metal shit, then their amps stopped working for about 5 minutes. I was feeling happy about this development, until they bring out the dreaded ACOUSTIC guitars and give us half an hour of Staind unplugged. Needless to say they were the 2nd worst band I saw that weekend (after Linkin Park), but thankfully the Darkness rocked!
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 If Staind is ever on the bill of a show I want to see, I vow I will peg Aaron Lewis with a shoe. I'm a crack shot with a stray boot or clod of dirt or boot full of dirt. I came within literally a couple of feet from hitting ol' boy from the Deftones with one, but it bonked some defenseless teenager instead. Good times. I hear tell that Dillinger Escape Plan is in my neck of the woods, but I haven't confirmed this yet. I'm about to do so.
Guest JebusNassedar Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 I have no opinions on Staind live, since I havent seen them, but when they performed off of L.D. 50, it was pretty good, except for the singer just cursing for cursing's sake between songs. Stupid PS2, not having a fast forward... Well, I know for certain that Dillinger Escape Plan is coming to the Sandy Eggo. Feb 23rd. I'm going to try like all hell to go. I'm trying to do a concert a month, the first one being dredg, which was -superb-, barring the large amount of emo kids.
Sonic Reducer Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 It's official. Mars Volta is opening for APC. Everyone, go do yourselves a favor and go see APC with the Mars Volta.
Henry Spencer Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 At any rate, I'm going to Bowie February 21st. Bowie > all others mentioned combined. Ehh, I dunno. Neil Young > Bowie, at least in my opinion.

Guest JebusNassedar Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 No shit on APC/Volta? WHOOOOOOO!!! *makes note to get tickets as soon as they're on sale.* This will be a good year for me.
spiny norman Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 I'd put Bowie as better than Neil Young simply for his durability and ability to change his styles so well. He went from folk to glam rock to new wave to electronica all the while staying at the top of the music industry. I'm not going to sell Neil Young short, Harvest is an incredibly good album. But I like my artists to be eclectic, which Bowie is. Plus Life On Mars is in my top five songs ever.

I might as well grab a sniper rifle and peg off every one of their members, never ever making horrific music ever again (I'm talking about Mars Volta)

Corey_Lazarus Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 The two times I saw Mudvayne live they were boring as shit. Of course, it's because the music itself is boring as shit (you can only play the same three notes so many times, fellas), and the guitarist has NO stage presence whatsoever. But yeah. Peg Aaron Lewis with something hard for me. And scream "YOU DISGRACE BOSTON." baron...GREAT SIG.
spiny norman Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 No, I just meant not to the extent of Bowie.
snuffbox Posted January 22, 2004 Author Report Posted January 22, 2004 wow...i found out that this concert actually soldout...approx 10,000 tix...i didnt expect it to get close. a few years ago a lineup of slipknot/7dust/coal chamber/hatebreed/mudvayne didnt even sell this building out. korn/pm5k/local queer band didnt either. sometime i worry about my area

Aerosmith/Cheap Trick Dream Theater Iced Earth Nightwish and BLS is planning on a North American tour date, hopefully near or around here
Corey_Lazarus Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 I saw BLS once live. Great. Zakk Wylde got hit in the head with one of those long plastic beer things (the ones that resemble an hourglass more than a bottle). Mid-solo. He didn't miss a beat or a note or anything. ZAKK. IS. YOUR. NEW. GOD.
