starvenger 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 Dean would have been fucked anyways going into the gimmick'd competition. I mean, what would he do for the disco round? "Iiiiiiiiiiiiii love-the-night-life Iiiiiiiiiii got-to-boo-gy Ooooooon the-disco-rooound Ooooooh yeeeaaaah" Perhaps the Beatles round? "Noooooow shake-it uuUP... BAby-now. TwiiiiiIIIst AAAaand... shout Cooome oooon Coooome ooooon BAAAaaby-now WooOOrk-it AAAAaaall out." ... actually... come to think of it... that would fucking ROCK! PUT THAT MAN THROUGH!~ Sad to say, but disco round with John Stevens would be a 200 on the unintentional comedy scale. Rat Pack and Disco don't mix, but I'd kill for him to sing "Shake Your Booty". Beatles, John would wipe the floor with the competition - the contestants seem to do a poor job on that week. But "Yesterday", "Yellow Submarine", "Elanor Rigby"... anything mellow and/or haunting is right up his alley.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 Actually, just as good, if not better, for him would be the earlier Beatles stuff when it was just bluesy rock. I think he'd knock a cover of "That Means a Lot" right out of the fuckin' park.

starvenger 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 Damn, Jon got the highest vote totals for the week! Everyone's favorite is in the finals. Man, I got the top 3, but flip-flopped Dean and George. Wild card round is gonna be pretty tough. George, Pen Guy, Bouncy(!) and Bulgarian Girl are among the 12 competing. But no Scooter Girl Still, with a 25% chance of advancing, they'd better make the most of the opportunity...
Beast 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 Gosunkugi, I totally marked out when you mentioned That Means A Lot. Probably in my top 5 Beatle songs, but it has a snowball's chance in hell of being sung in a Beatles' round.
MooreMark 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 NO SCOOTER GIRL?!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm happy with the wildcards though Elizabeth, Leah, Jennifer, Jon Peter Lewis are favourites of the bunch. Though I wish Susan well.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 I can believe that DEAN made it to the next round, what I cannot believe is that he took the highest % of the vote. I can't wait for the ode-to-John Denver round.

starvenger 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Different format for the wild cards this year. They're eliminating 4 right off, before they even get to perform. So far, Bouncy and Ol' George have made it, Big Lisa and Marque have been kicked out... (edit) and Pen guy is in as well...

starvenger 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2004 Damn, Dean lives in a fucking BIG HOUSE. He also managed to Standard-ize a Stevie Wonder song. Very impressive...
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2004 It was really apparent how refreshing Dean is in this group after the recap at the end there. They all don't sound the same, but a lot of them are very similiar. Fantasia did the best job, IMO, and I actually dug Georges singing for once. I wasn't totally feeling Deans performance because he doesn't have a lot of strength behind his lyrics, but I do like the laid back demeanor.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2004 The thing that I keep in mind here is that the "Soul" theme fits in perfectly for these performers. Well, most of them, anyways - Matt the Husky, Pen Guy and Dean aren't exactly tailor made for this. You knew that Fantasia would knock one out of the park this week. I agree with Simon that Leah is the most likely to go, but does that girl Diana bother anyone else?
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2004 I liked George's VOICE last night, but I wasn't feeling his performance, per se. "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" never really felt like a smiling happy happy happy song to me. I liked Dean last night, Fantasia was also damn good, and whatsherface, LaToya?, was really good. Hopefully next week John will have a genre he can do more with.

Hopefully next week John will have a genre he can do more with. Thinking over things more, I've noticed that Randy doesn't really like John. I guarantee you that if another finalist did what he did Randy would be all "you made it your own, dawg". But since John doesn't do traditional "pop", it's "boring" because he's "doing" Sinatra and Martin but isn't Sinatra or Martin. But, with Simon backing him and the female:male ratio being 2:1, John has time to prove him wrong, and hopefully educate the audience about styles other than what ClearChannel wants you to hear. It could be that Deano only gave a so-so performance last night. Randy was ABSOLUTLELY right last night about Dean and Frank being more than just laid back, they had amazing vocals. Fake-Dean from AI doesn't have much voice strengh and it sounds like he is struggleing with the note most of the time. Not to say he isn't good, but there are at least 4 of the others that have better voices than him.
MooreMark 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2004 BIGGEST MISTAKE AMERICA! With letting Jennifer get in the bottom 2! I couldn't believe that.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2004 The problem Jennifer has is that she's up against 3 other similar singers, so she may get left behind if people think she is the lesser of the 4.
MooreMark 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2004 Which three? Latoya, Jasmine? Can't think of another Diana is more of the "can do every genre". Fantasia voice is like Macy Gray. Camille's like Lauren Hill. Amy looks like the fun type who tries to hard when she sings.

Camille's like Lauren Hill. Amy looks like the fun type who tries to hard when she sings. Standards/Jazz - John Stevens Hip Hop - Camille Rock/Country - Matt A/C - Jon Peter Lewis. Actually, he's kinda like Kurt from Idool/World Idol, isn't he? AI Style - Diana, George, Latoya, Jennifer, Jasmine, Amy, Fantasia By AI Style I mean that they'll choose songs that show off their range and power (i.e. ballads) because they have the voices to do it. Think of it as a singing version of WWE-style. I think that AI is pretty much tailor made for these singers, so for someone like Fantasia to have that power AND have a little something different, it makes her stand out and be an early favourite to win. Guys like Dean and JPL are the dark horses because their uniqueness helps differentiate them from the others, but their singing styles isn't really "AI Style", so I doubt that they'll make final 3. Voice strength isn't everything, but American Idol isn't the place to demonstrate it.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2004 Fuck this show. Leah's gone, thus my main reason for watching is gone. *Realizes that Dean is still in it* You win this round, Idol, but if Dean is voted out then I'm gone.

MooreMark 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2004 Am I crazy or is Latoya kinda hot? (or both? ) I don't think she's hot but she looks better than how she looked in the top 32 rounds. Leah looked amazing on the results show and her singing wasn't that bad. I think both Jasmine and Camille are finnnne. Diana is pretty, I guess. A bit big though. starvenger 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2004 bumpage... Well, 5 singers (and one incredibly blatant Product Placement) down and here are my thoughts: Diana - the judges are smoking something good, because she was incredibly flat. Bottom 3 candidate. Fantasia - Pretty much proved why she's the frontrunner George - Making the most of his lucky loser status Johnny Dean - I loved this. Even the scat coverup was decent. Camille - I like the smoky voice, but she's really not feeling it. Bottom 3, and my pick to go
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2004 I thought the last one was the best. She admitted to having the "I want to be a hulkamaniac" tape in her collection, so she better go far! Fantasia and Latoya are pretty-much-well battling it out for winner though.
Kardo 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2004 I hope Latoya wins. Fantasia with her scratchy Macy Grey style voice is just irratating.
