Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 Actually I think its too late for ECW's return... At least not with the same formuli that could have made it a successful extension for the WWE pocketbook.
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 I do believe I already suggested the all cruisers idea. Here's how I'd do it. Give the cruisers a Saturday morning/afternoon slot, when nothing's on anyway, you can make Raw into ECW(switch the GMs or something) since they have the less restricted cable enviroment, and then put your HHHs and Benoits and Kurt Angles onto Smackdown. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 I was all for the ECW type idea when a lot of their roster could of been defined by ECW...but ECW's just been gone too long and most of the guys have settled into their WWE groove. In 2001 you still looked at guys like Tajiri and RVD as ECW guys, it's not the same anymore Won't happen.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted February 2, 2004 Below is a list of people whom I still recognize as ECW. Of course, Paul Heyman would lead the charge: Al Snow The Dudley Boyz Lance Storm Rob Van Dam Tommy Dreamer Yoshihiro Tajiri Little Guido (Nuzio) Spike Dudley Stevie Richards Jazz Dawn Marie Rhyno TazzAfter all that was said and done, perhaps they could bring in a few more famous ECW names? Sabu, Justin Credible, Francine, Shane Douglas, Masato Tanaka, Mike Awesome, Balls Mahoney, Bill Alfonso, Joey Styles, Don Callis, Steve Corino, Simon Diamond, C.W. Anderson, Super Crazy, The Sandman, etc.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 All I know is if they try and pass it off as another promotion they would have to get over their obsession with putting WWE on EVERYTHING.
BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 Shane Douglas, Don Callis Fat chance with those two.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 Guys like Dreamer and Spike don't stand a chance outside of ECW. Tommy was over cause he worked hard and the fans just fell in love with him...not going to happen in the WWE. And in ECW Spike was able to come off as a legit threat cause he was booked well. In WWE all he does is bump hard for big guys.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 Everyone who was in ECW full time, and became "known" there, I still think of as an "ECW guy/gal". Hell, to me Lita is still an ECW gal. They might as well try it, as it isn't like most of the ECW guys will ever get a shot in WWE as we know it.

Sabu, Justin Credible, Francine, Shane Douglas, Masato Tanaka, Mike Awesome, Balls Mahoney, Bill Alfonso, Joey Styles, Don Callis, Steve Corino, Simon Diamond, C.W. Anderson, Super Crazy, The Sandman, etc. Joey Styles would be nice, but he's part of MLW isn't he? Sabu is well past his prime and is unreliable as hell. Douglas is the same as Sabu. Simon, CW, Super Crazy and maybe someone like New Jack would be interesting. Corino and Sandman are also MLW and I don't think Vince would bring in Sandman since he's a basic Austin formula. This will not happen unless it has something to do with Brock vs Goldberg at Mania but even then I don't believe it. Vince doesn't have the committment and he would just build them up to allow the WWE to destroy them at Mania 21 or hell even KOTR.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 CW Anderson is a guy who could only make it in ECW. He had charisma and worked good oldschool matches, but he was missing the look and cause of that he wouldn't make it in the WWE. And I'm a big Justin Credible mark, even though everyone else hates him. Balls Mahoney is a good big guy. And you can't have ECW without Mikey Whipwreck. Also, I liked Justin Credible. Not his promos but I didn't see where he was as bad as people made him out to be. And imagine Arn Anderson as the manager of C.W Anderson. You want to talk about instantly over.
Human Fly 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 If anyone works for MLW I do not think it would really matter. They could probably be snapped up in a second. Tanaka, Credible, Crazy, Balls Mahoney, Corino, Mikey Whipwreck, and CW Anderson I think would all be realistic choices. I do not think that Shane Douglas offers enough anymore, as a worker or on th mic, to overcome the heat he has got. Why does Don Callis have so much heat? I have always heard that he has it, but I do not recall anyone coming up with a concrete reason as to why.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 they don't really need any new people. There are enough guys that don't get to do anything on Raw/Smackdown as it is. Also, who cares if no one watches it at first, for awhile, hell no one really watches heat and that has been on for a long time. It would be nice to give the undercard something to do besides sit around backstage.

Guest Jimbo Report post Posted February 3, 2004 This isn't going to happen and isn't in the works to happen. This story comes out about every 4 months, and it never pans out. It's just some conjecture made up by writer's which they know will create some buzz. This is the 4th or 5th time in the last 2 years I've heard about this. If something like this was really goign to happen, don't you think somebody would have actually said something about it? No one but the dirtsheets have mentioned this...I'd expect to see another press release like this about late summer...
Vyce 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 Didn't Mikey retire though? Does anyone retire anymore? I hear he's been working matches lately. Mikey's working with TNA now. If they actually do this ECW show, they need to resign Jeff Hardy. He'd fit in well, and bring some degree of star power.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 Move Velocity to 6:00 (WCW Saturday Nights old time, good time for a show) and put the ECW show on at 10 or 11 and dump Confidential. I honestly don't think that they should call it ECW though. I think it ultimately be more successful if they used a few of the bigger B Show wrestlers and a larger group of unknowns or indy wrestlers. Tape the show from a static location somewhere so that they can tape all of the shows for a month in one night or so. I'd hope that they would limit the ammount of ads and mentions of RAW/Smackdown/PPVs but you know that won't happen. The biggest problem with this is that if the show ever did develop a big star somehow, they would be shipped off to RAW or Smackdown somehow.

It makes the show very credible. And glad to hear about Mikey, him and Tajiria were amazing as a tag team.
humongous2002 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 If it is a watered down ECW then count me out, if it is a no-nonsense, no bullshit taking, no holds barred truly hardcore ECW then i will give it a chance and watch it.WWE could use it to replace Velocity and Confidential on Saturdays and have RVD be their first world champion. Guest MikeSC Report post Posted February 3, 2004 So would their attempt to make ECW be similar to their attempt to make a football promotion or their attempt to be a wrestling company? Wouldn't it be just like the old days of ECW? WWE keeping an ECW-like company afloat. -=Mike

I would surely pick A.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 first priority for this to work anyway you look at it, is a small ring with the more springy ropes. Unless you get that FIRST. Cruiserweight matches will be no different then WWE's stupid brand version of it.
