Rob E Dangerously Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 I'd prefer to get all this out of the way now, so Kerry might be cut down before it's too late. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/2/10/222651.shtml Gen. Giap: Kerry's Group Helped Hanoi Defeat U.S. The North Vietnamese general in charge of the military campaign that finally drove the U.S. out of South Vietnam in 1975 credited a group led by Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry with helping him achieve victory. In his 1985 memoir about the war, Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap wrote that if it weren't for organizations like Kerry's Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Hanoi would have surrendered to the U.S. - according to Fox News Channel war historian Oliver North. That's why, he predicted on Tuesday, the Vietnam War issue "is going to blow up in Kerry's face." "People are going to remember Gen. Giap saying if it weren't for these guys [Kerry's group], we would have lost," North told radio host Sean Hannity. "The Vietnam Veterans Against the War encouraged people to desert, encouraged people to mutiny - some used what they wrote to justify fragging officers," noted the former Marine lieutenant colonel, who earned two purple hearts in Vietnam. "John Kerry has blood of American soldiers on his hands," North said.
snuffbox Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 damn, now thats some serious mudslinging there. good lord. this will be a BRUTAL campaign
Rob E Dangerously Posted February 12, 2004 Author Report Posted February 12, 2004 I'm only in this to try and deny Kerry the nomination. Let's face it, Kerry will burnt to a crisp faster than he can say 'Bring it on'
tommytomlin Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 The 'blood of American soldiers on his hands'? Oliver North is an ignorant tool. He should go back to hosting 'War Stories' and practice slinging his jacket over his right shoulder while simultaneously leaning on a WW2 fighter jet some more.

I don't see why the fact that they were on the show is a big deal. It's not like it's a secret that he was part of the group. As for whatever it is that North is saying, I'd like to know exactly what General Giap actually wrote. Did he actually name Vietnam Veterans Against the War or is North just misinterpreting the facts to suit his own anti-Kerry beliefs?

2GOLD Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I hate to say this....but is anyone really going to care about this? I know the younger crowd won't, unless he appears on MTV and announces he really likes that New Kids on the Block. Is this going to be a big issue anymore? People don't seem to want to vote for War heroes anyway anymore.
Rob E Dangerously Posted February 12, 2004 Author Report Posted February 12, 2004 then again.. would Kerry be so open to this if he wasn't running as John 'Vietnam Veteran' Kerry? The guy is a chameleon.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I know when I hear the name Ollie North the first thing I think of is "war historian"...
Styles Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Did Kerry steal your lunch money as a kid or something? You seem awfully hostile towards him...
kkktookmybabyaway Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 then again.. would Kerry be so open to this if he wasn't running as John 'Vietnam Veteran' Kerry? The guy is a chameleon. You forgot "hero..."
tommytomlin Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Kerry running as a Vietnam Vet is beside the point. Blaming Kerry for the North Vietnamese "victory" and then saying he's responsible for the deaths of American officers is just one step too far. Can't North just criticize Kerry's politics? Kerry served his country, got three purple hearts, then he went home and exercised his freedom of speech. I don't see why, even if he is running as 'Vietnam Veteran John Kerry', that he should be the victim of such insults.

The left is going to regret dropping the discourse so low so early on. -=Mike
Rob E Dangerously Posted February 12, 2004 Author Report Posted February 12, 2004 Did Kerry steal your lunch money as a kid or something? The fact of the matter is that I just don't like the guy. He's a chameleon. It'd be for the better of the Democratic party if a lightning rod like Kerry isn't nominated. Kerry running as a Vietnam Vet is beside the point. So, it's not relevant to his 'I served' POV that he went to bash the same soldiers he served with? Blaming Kerry for the North Vietnamese "victory" and then saying he's responsible for the deaths of American officers is just one step too far. He's gonna get that for months. We'll have to see what was written from the Vietnamese side, in regards to what Kerry did. Can't North just criticize Kerry's politics? I'm sure others will do that. Kerry served his country, got three purple hearts No offense.. but I mentioned the causes of how Kerry got his purple hearts, and it had always seemed to be that you would have had to do alot to get a purple heart. then he went home and exercised his freedom of speech. Try convincing Vietnam vets of your heroism if you're linked to Fonda. I'd say that'd be pretty hard. I don't see why, even if he is running as 'Vietnam Veteran John Kerry', that he should be the victim of such insults. Oh wah. When you've twisted and turned like Kerry, you will get heat. Just because you served in Vietnam doesn't mean you should be immune from criticism. No matter how far out it may be.
Highland Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 It's a sad sad day when Oliver North is given more credibility than John Kerry.
MrRant Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 So I can call him a commie lover then?
NYU Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 From snopes.com: EDIT: Having problems with the image. This is the link: Picture of Hippie Kerry Supposedly, that is John Kerry sitting behind Jane Fonda during an anti-war rally at Valley Forge, PA in September 1970. I just have to ask: What is the logic of painting your entire campaign behind the idea of being a Vietnam War veteran.....if you protested the very idea of going to war in Vietnam? It just makes Kerry look like a hypocrite. Supposedly, he protested the war and found the whole thing immoral. However, he constantly brags about having served in Vietnam, and he has no problems using the entire experience as a launching pad to the presidency.

But it is now. Odd. -=Mike

Guest MikeSC Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Leave it to Jonah Goldberg of NR Online to hit the quote of the year in regards to the Democrats' assumed chances of winning the election with Kerry: The Democrats seem to have succumbed to a terrible bout of wishful thinking, like Michael Moore bringing a condom in his wallet to a Sports Illustrated swimsuit-photo shoot. Sorry, but that was friggin' gold. -=Mike ...Yeah, trashing Michael Moore = comic gold

Yeah this is the argument Americans are picking up on, with no help from the press or the alphabet networks. Besides, President Bush, to date, has a pretty good war record. I don't think American's really want to risk turning our military effort in fighting terrorism, in the Middle East, over to a corrupt 'International Community,' as Kerry does.
Guest hunger4unger Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 The smear campaign starts...and by Fox News! I didn't see that one coming.
Swift Terror Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 The fact that he looks like Jay Leno after having his face squeezed in a vice is reason alone to not vote for him.
Mole Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Bush is going to win no matter what. I don't like it though.
Guest Cerebus Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Well I bought the book off of Amazon (since I'm a military history buff anyway I decided to take the plunge) so we'll see.
