Rise and Fall of ECW

Recommended Posts

Guest JumpinJackFlash

I just checked Highspots.com and I saw this DVD as a preorder. It's coming out in June. I'm certain it's a WWE release. Anyone know anything about it?

Hm. I wonder when they'll release "The Rise and Fall of the WWF" DVD.

Vince: "...and then, the pandas made us their bitches."

I saw this on an order sheet from Sony at work the other day. There were no specs, and this is only the working title.

I've got a bad feeling it's going to talk about how ECW got turned into WWF/E Attitude.

Why do people call folders "threads?" What we're posting in is a thread, within a folder, on a board. Yeesh.

On topic, I'd buy this in a skinny minute.

In all seriousness though, this ECW dvd sounds like it could be excellent. WWE doesn't have the same hard feelings that it has with WCW, and since ECW was never a real threat to WWE, the dvd is more likely to glorify Heyman and company.

I am curious as how WWE will explain the fall of ECW.

Heyman* should be explaining it.

What's the WWE going to say?

Well, they were really innovative, and brought you stars like Mick Foley, Terry Funk, and RVD! Yeah, that's going to suck. *thumbs down*

Wonder if they'll find a way to get Joey Styles to appear on the disk at all...

Oh, and they should stop being cheapskates and pay the artists royalties so they can have the REAL ECW themes on the disk and not dub over them for matches.

Now this COULD be a good but here could be some issues...

1. Shane Douglas: Shane owns everything of his. His name, trademarks, etc.... Shane did appear on the "stone cold truth" so I'm wondering if they'll use Shane or whatnot.

2. Will all the cussing be taking out? I personnally think it shouldn't for the full effect of the ECW vibe. But WWE could bleep a lot out.

3. Theme Music: I thought the ECW DVDs and Tapes did a pretty well affect of only playing the music that they were licensed to or the ones done by Harry Slash But will WWE edit out all the theme music or maybe put current theme music for some of the wrestlers have or what?

4. Former ECW stars: Will the former ECW stars who made the DVD ask for royalites or maybe file a lawsuit trying to get some money off the DVDs?

This could be very intresting indeed but "visually pleasing" sorry I had to steal that.

If they cut it out then it will be like the Sopranos on PAX.

If the WWE owns the ECW video library, doesn't that entitle them to use it however they want to, without paying royalties?

From your lips to God's ears. And while we're at it:

I hate it when people put question marks in place of apostrophes. I mean, yeah, I can understand maybe once, but it seems that people do it EVERY time in a paragraph. What?s the deal?

Or in the tape trading thread :P , when someone says "I'll trade it or shill it," when it should be "Trade or sell."

Actually, a lot of times that happens because of the HTML or code of the site it's being copied from. I know the Virtual High School site has that problem when you post your answers to the questions.

ECW owed their own library and couldn't use theme music in the Pioneer releases.

Douglas and Styles both own everything about themselves so the WWE can't use anything without their permission.

I wonder if Heyman would be allowed to say anything about TNN, what with WWE on TNN. This DVD could come off like a document released by the military. Lots of stuff cut out and just choppy as hell.

Although it's also possible it could come out very well.

Half of the WWE's ex-ECW roster has already been fired... I think there will be some gaps.

I think Styles would let them use his image and voice. He hasn't had an issue with the programs he's been as of late.

Shane signed a lease for his name while in ECW, so that if the company was ever sold, he can't do anything about it. All the guys did that, even Joey Styles, regardless of his claiming that he'd sue WWE if they use his voice, which they've already done with the Foley DVD. Shane doesn't have a case. Royalties probably won't be an issue.

You want to see the real rise and fall of ECW, go watch the ECW dvd's on the market already. I guarantee they are better than this release. Considering I already own every ECW dvd released in America this is pointless for me.

Same here moment...sorry not gonna call you a genius. Trying to add to your ego, shame on you (lol). I also own all the tapes and DVD's but if this is sorta like a documentary or has mathces that the tapes or DVD's don't have then it might be worth getting.

The ECW DVDs out in America are just compilations and a few PPVs....how would you get any sense of the rise and fall of ECW through those? And there isn't many ECW DVDs to start with. Too bad we don't get a billion ECW DVDs like Europe does..

it'd better have the invasions, both the original, which I didn't see, and the one where Dreamer and RVD ran in. It was during the invasion. My VCR was a piece of shit at the time so I could only see it the one time.

Yeah, they don't need to be biased. They were pretty much always cool to ECW. They were paying Heyman to keep the doors open till the inevitable in 2001.

The ECW Invades RAW storyline from 1997 will likely be included on DVD.
