Guest Astro Report post Posted March 9, 2004 From KM.com: I talked to Alfred Hayes last week and found out that he has been in the hospital since about Jan 1, after having developed a serious gangrene infection in his right foot. Unfortunately, the doctors ended up having to amputate part of his right leg below the knee to save his life. He's now been moved to a rehab center, where they eventually hope to fit him with a prosthetic leg. Many of you know that Alfred has had more than his share of health problems in the last 10 years or so, ranging from rheumatoid arthritis, to back surgery, to blood clots in his leg, but this seems to be his most serious setback so far. So please keep him in your thoughts. Thanks, Clawdia

Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted March 9, 2004 I've honestly always dug Lord Alfred. This isn't some concocted bullshit response. For some disturbing reason, his color commentary brings back fond memories of wrestling past. I hope this isn't true and he eventually gots elected into the WWE Hall of Fame on Sunday. Jebus 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 Aw crap...this whole death in threes is getting creepy. When I was expecting a post like this after Hercules, it's gettin ridiculous. Hopefully, Lord Alfred gets well
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 Oh, and for the record...even though most people say the event sucked... I marked for how Lord Alfred said "Avalanche" during the Bundy/Hogan cage match.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 9, 2004 I hate to say it, but I think Alfred is [insert apropriate Guns N Roses song title here]. Whats this B.S. 3 deaths thing? I mean, how does it work again?
the max 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 It's odd that most of the wrestling sucked when I was a kid, but I remember the commentators more than anything. Heenan, Monsoon and Hayes.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 I always liked Hayes work. Sucks to hear that about him.
Slickster 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 I hope he gets well soon. I'll always remember how he'd always put over the 'excellent cameramen' whenever they got a cool shot. Also, I can't forget his voiceover on old CV tapes of how to get in touch with CV. Even though that company's long gone, I'll always remember that they were at PO Box 3333, Fairfield, NJ 07007. Si82 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 That sucks to hear. I like Lord Alfred Hayes. Who could forget the power house commentary team of Hayes and Mooney on all of those classic CV tapes. Plus he was a Repo Man fan too! Hope he gets well soon.
Kardo 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 I remember during the Nasty Boys vs. Money Inc match when Money Inc cheated and Mooney was whinging. "This is a mans game Sean. If you're not a man GET OUT." Sean shut up for a little bit after that.
yankovic fan 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 "Promotional consideration paid for by the following..." That quote will be in my mind forever. I hope he gets well soon.
WrestlingDeacon 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 The death in threes thing is that when one person dies, usually two more will die soon after, within two weeks time usually. And actually, they just found Spalding Gray's body in a river yesterday so I guess that makes two with Herc. I always thought Hayes looked plastered, but you could tell he was trying and he was a good foil for Heenan. I too will always remember him doing the commercials for things like WWF ice creams bars "almost as fun to collect as they are to eat" or something like that. cbacon 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 "Promotional consideration paid for by the following..." Straight into a "Wrestling Buddy" and "WWF Ice Cream" ad. Oh man, that brings me back.
Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 I hope he gets better soon. I always thought Lord Alfred was a very good colour commentator. Yes,he was made to look like a buffoon at times but his stuff from the house show matches they used to show on Tuesday Night Titans is really good. He always put the wrestlers over well. Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted March 9, 2004 "Promotional consideration paid for by the following..." I still crack up even when I think of this.....GWS Lord Alfred
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 He wasn't the best commentator but I heard him recently during a very old match and thought he did a solid job and wasn't as bad as some people made him out to be. Get well soon, Alfred.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Lord Alfred Hayes/Gorilla Monsoon was a decent combo, but Mooney/Hayes never made me interested in matches. Hell, Monsoon/ANYONE can be good. I love how Hayes would say "Shelacking" and mention the camera men during a boring match. "Great Work by Camera 4 from Coliseum Video!" Guest The Imp Report post Posted March 10, 2004 I saw Lord Alfred Hayes wrestle live at Maple Leaf Gardens back in the early '80s... Hope he gets well soon...
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Hayes was the MAN when I was a kid, as far as I was concerned. He made shit sound important by just being the British guy. I watch some old tapes with him on it and love hearing how he makes WWF matches sound like a prize fight or something.
dubq 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Here's hoping he gets better soon. He was a great heel when he was called upon to play the part, before Vince Jr. made him into a buffoon. I used to love watching him and Billy Red Lyons do commentary for some of the shows that got exported to Canada back in the 80's.
Zorin Industries 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 What was he like as a wrestler? I remember someone saying he was quite the worker back in his day.

Guest Banders Kennany Report post Posted March 10, 2004 I didn't know gangrene was too common nowadays. Poor guy. I am just wondering, if they successfully amputated his foot and he is in rehabilitation, how is he still very ill? Apologies if I misread the post.
