snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 There is absolutlely nothing wrong with Linkin Parks lyrics. They just are all about the same thing and it gets repetitve. But they actually do have pretty good lyrics. No...they dont. They are dull and childish...and entirely lacking in anything even resembling passion or real emotional impact. Theyre written in that way to appeal to the lowest common denominator...

Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Off the top of my head "Can you take me higher/To a place where blind men see/Can you take me higher/To a place of golden streams" So, he wants to go to a place with rivers of piss? get the lyrics right first it's "Can you take me Higher/To a place where Blind men see/Can you take me higher/To a place with golden streets" And that's not even NEARLY as bad as Linkin Park's 15 year old whiny bitch diary lyrics "I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real I wanna let go of the pain I’ve held so long" "Discomfort, endlessly has pulled itself upon me Distracting/reacting Against my will i stand beside my own reflection It's haunting how i can't seem..." let's not forget this gem "shut up when I'm talking to you shut up, shut up, shut up I'm about to BREAK" Pretty Fucking Pathetic. Although it's not Invisible Kid.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 If Linkin Park is putting out songs for whiny 15 year olds, then that would make their lyrics good. Anyway, "You are the church, I am the steeple. That's the lyrical equivalent of slipping on a banana peel.

Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 So, when is somebody going to try to be 'cool' and say Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, or Billy Corgan?.... Uh, actually... I like Billy Corgan okay, for the most part, but: "Emptyness is loneliness And loneliness is cleanliness And cleanliness is godlyness And god is empty Just like me." is the most ridiculously over the top angsty lyric of all time, and it makes me laugh like a hyena. Although, he redeems himself with the awesome Cherub Rock.

Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 If Linkin Park is putting out songs for whiny 15 year olds, then that would make their lyrics good. Anyway, "You are the church, I am the steeple. When we fuck we're all God's people." -Marilyn Manson, "Slutgarden" Actually I love that line, but I love it because it is so incredibly asinine. That's the lyrical equivalent of slipping on a banana peel. And if you've listened to the entire album, which I'm almost certain you would have, you'd know perfectly well that a line such as that works brilliantly with the demeanor Manson has created for 'Golden Age of the Grotesque'. Taking it out of context doesn't do Manson's brilliance any favours. UYI Pick any line from 'Me Against The Music' by Britters and Madonna and you're on a one way road to ear-bleed-ville. 1234-5678 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin Eh, at some point it became cool to dislike this song. Personally, I feel as a musical "journey" it is one of the best overall songs out there. The way Plant sings, the tempo speeding up slightly, Bonham coming in at just the right time with the drums, Page's unforgettable solo. The prototype for every "epic" song out there. Here's another shitty one. "So go ahead and talk shit Talk shit about me Go ahead and talk shit About my g-g-generation Cause we don't, don't give a fuck, and We won't ever give a fuck Until you You give a fuck about me And my generation"-Limp Bizkit "My Generation" Did Durst ever have potential? I mean c'mon, "Rearranged" wasn't that bad. Right?

godthedog 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 woo hoo, yet another chance for me to pimp lynyrd skynyrd's modern patriotic classic, "red, white and blue." and considering who wrote it, dylan's "gotta serve somebody" is pretty god damn bad. "You may be an ambassador to England or France, You may like to gamble, you might like to dance, You may be the heavyweight champion of the world, You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls "But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed You're gonna have to serve somebody, Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord But you're gonna have to serve somebody." and it goes on like that for SIX MORE DAMN VERSES. "masters of war" it is not. while i'm at it, i'll throw in another lame ass song by a great songwriter, lennon's "crippled inside," which goes like: You can shine your shoes and wear a suit You can comb your hair and look quite cute You can hide your face behind a smile One thing you can't hide Is when you're crippled inside You can wear a mask and paint your face You can call yourself the human race You can wear a collar and a tie One thing you can't hide Is when you're crippled inside and so on. Taking it out of context doesn't do Manson's brilliance any favours. True, you could pluck many such gems from the GA of G's lyrical hedgerow. I just particularly enjoy the line I quoted and you could probably sum up the spirit of the album with that one line (or maybe the chorus of "This Is the New Shit"). I like it's unmissable placement and repetion in the song... a lot of the great lyrics seem to kind of fly by, with a feeling of "Wait a minute... what the hell did he just say?" He's done better from an artistic standpoint, but for listening pleasure I think it's his best work.
