Guest Anglesault Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Well, uhm, uh, yeah. ... I'm not quite sure how exactly this makes me feel. Well, I guess I know, but I can't exactly state it in words. While I would have hated the Old School Undertaker Character within a week, the first night of it would have been a mark out moment. And, well, we got this. It's certainly...different than I imagined it would be, that's for sure. Your opinions?
Guest Askewniverse Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 My thoughts? If the reports are true, then Taker's return as the "Dead Man" wasn't worth losing Brock Lesnar.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 They built it up as the return of the Undertaker but below that jacket he's wearing the exact same gear he did as the American Bad Ass. In fact, if one didn't know the angle and storyline, they'd just assume that it was the American Bad Ass character out there. It was a complete and utter disappointment. You'd assume one would revert entirely back into the gimmick. Its not even close to how it was before. Undertaker2K4 is fucking disgusting.
Guest Trivia247 Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Oh Here we go with the Fucking Taker haters bitching and moaning...
Guest Coffey Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I like the idea of him being the same as he was when he was last seen...only now he is incorporating some of his old persona as well. Paul Bearer, The Urn, The Old Music, etc. The big hat instead of the Bandana was a nice touch too. He's like a hybrid of all things Taker. I'm fine with it. I will admit however that I was expecting a more extravagant entrance.
Jobber of the Week Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 As long as he's a ZOMBIE biker, it's fine by me. The Undertaker character has changed and evolved numberous times, and anything was better than the last one. Each one has always had people pissing and moaning, too.
Art Sandusky Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 But it's true. Within a second of Kane touching the Undertaker for the first time, it was clear that it was just BikerTaker with the old music. One token sit-up, a long coat and a wide-brimmed hat do not the Undertaker make.
Styles Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 He has a new hat! Really though, it's not that big a deal. It would have been cool if he at least donned the purple gloves and boots, but I think the idea is, it would be unrealistic to expect him to wrestle and act like the old Undertaker again, so this was a good compromise. We got to see him make a cool entrance, he did all his signature moves and made his scary faces. Maybe this means he won't give up his grounding submission style...
Lightning Flik Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Oh Here we go with the Fucking Taker haters bitching and moaning... There's a difference between bitching and moaning about him, and bitching and moaning about his character. Seriously, if they were going through with the Undertaker Old School gimmick, you need to go fullout. Not just half ass it and leave part of his American Bad Ass gimmick (hell leave most of it) there. They foretold that the Undertaker of Old was returning, and frankly, from what I've seen, he's nothing more than just "The American Bad Ass That Just Don't Sell".
Enigma Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 My friend had a theory that it actually makes sense that UT came back dressed like that since that was what he was buried in. Personally though, I didn't like it at all, because when I see him dressed like that, all I think of are motorcycles and Limp Bizkit. But since UT is dead set againt going completely back to the old character, this is the best we're going to get.
Vyce Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 As long as he's a ZOMBIE biker, it's fine by me. The Undertaker character has changed and evolved numberous times, and anything was better than the last one. Each one has always had people pissing and moaning, too. I officially dub this new version "HELLBILLY Taker", and I encourage everyone else to follow suite.
NoCalMike Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 RancherTaker: Seriously though WWE dropped the ball big fucking time with this crap. Personally I never even wanted UT in any shape or form anyhow, but considering it was happening anyway, at least deliver what is promised and give the fans what they want. That sure was a nice pop for Bearer. the druids and Taker until the lights came on and he WAS NOT the dead man. Just what in the hell was Bearer/the urn there for, moral support? If he wasn't going to be the deadman then fine, but don't advertise it and have Kane fall victim to "spooky rain" and "creepy videos" leading up to WM.
Guest Trivia247 Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 It will depend on next we see the Undertaker what personna he will truly take. the Coat and Hat harkens back to the original Taker gimmick, the tongue crap is straight from his Lord of Darkness gimmick. and his attire still that of this is my yard taker. We won't truly know what the end result is till Smackdown what true type of Taker this is.
Art Sandusky Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 It would have been a phat touch if his clothes had been dirty and torn and shit, but nope.
Slayer Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Marks: "They changed Undertaker! He's better than ever!" Smarks: "But he still embodies all the awful wrestling and no-selling he did before!" Marks: "...but, he's got a new hat!" *marks rush towards Undertaker*
Masked Man of Mystery Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I vote to refer to him as the Underfunker.
Guest Quik Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I think the hat was too big for his head. And he was rocking a lesbian haircut. If he starts crucifying people I'll be happy. Until then he's just a stupid idea.
Dangerous A Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 He is no longer the Undertaker. Lets think of new names. When I first saw him, I thought he was a fucking cowboy. How about Underado? El DoTaker? WWE dropped the ball on bringing back "The Dead Man".
syxx2001 Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I'm no hater. I was HYPED for his return. But when he came out in a fucking leather coat and a black wifebeater, I was PISSED. All of that shit on RAW for that? Sure, his short hair made it impossible to be the Ministry Undertaker, so he could have been the earlier 'Taker, with the urn and stuff. He looks stupid as hell now. Especially since so many people expected something different.
AndrewTS Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Me and a group of MARKS at the campus: BULLSHIT!! Would it have killed them to give him a new ring attire? Sable was able to "wrestle" with hair extensions so I don't see why Taker couldn't. Coat and hat were fine, but once the bell rings, there's no difference but the hair. Lame. Kinda killed the illusion for marks as well.
The Amazing Rando Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 He is exactly what was advertised (barring his images in the videos) They said the Dead Will Rise... Biker Taker was buried...and so arised Dead Biker Taker. He even SOLD. What the FUCK? Kane should have whipped the shit out of him and Taker shouldn't even have hit his BACK. Now THAT is Old School Undertaker. He isn't old school, he is The Ressurected Biker Taker.
AnonymousBroccoli Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I thought he looked like a cowboy. It might've worked, him being from Texas and all, but not with all of the Deadman buildup. Now we've got a DeadCowMinMotoShaggyTaker.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I for one...actually dug what they did with Taker. For the first time in as long as I can remember...he looked like a badass coming to the ring. I feared they'd try to stick the lame costumed Taker into the current WWE...but I'm happy with what they did. They combined his two looks... Hopefully...this will be his farewell tour.
Guest Trivia247 Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 um the original concept of the Undertaker's appearance was as a OLD WEST Undertaker with the Brimmed hat and Western Duster. so all these referances to cowboys texas and such isn't too valid
4hartthreat Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I thought he looked like Undertaker Texas Ranger.
Use Your Illusion Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I liked it. Instead of going back entirely to the Deadman gimmick, Taker kept the traits and principles of the character (ability to control lighting, sitting up, rolling eyes etc.) while still maintaining his current image and persona. Instead of being one, Taker is being both the Underbiker and the Undertaker. I think it's great, and New York definitely thought the same. UYI
Guest mickberna Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Aside from his awful John Lennon-ish hair, I like the current Taker. It's a nice combination of all his previous incarnations, and now he reminds me of the main character from that 1st-person shooter, "Blood." A crazy western murdering grave digger sort of thing. Yeah. Paul Bearer is pretty pointless though. I hope that was just a one time appearance, because clearly Taker doesn't even acknowledge the urn. One more thing... Taker needs the dark, sunken eyes to look like a dead man. Someone get the makeup department on that right away.
Use Your Illusion Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Agreed, mick. Paul Bearer really looks out of place and unnecessary there, Taker continued to use his 'powers' long after Paul originally ditched him, back at Summerslam '96, so this case should be no different. UYI
